2 Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program Overview What is apprenticeship training? What is the Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program? What occupations are available? Who is eligible to participate? What documentation is required to apply? Commitment requirements for apprentices
3 What is the apprenticeship training? Apprenticeship is industry-driven training delivered through partnerships with employers. An earn and learn training model that combines onthe-job training and tuition-free related technical instruction. Apprentices are employed full-time and may receive wage increases as their skills advance.
4 What is the Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program? The Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program was created in part through a $3.8 million grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) to CareerSource Tampa Bay. This innovative training program is the first IT Apprenticeship Program in the State of Florida. The Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program is a Registered Apprenticeship training program approved by the Florida Department of Education and recognized by the USDOL. This program was developed by local IT sector employers in partnership with the School Districts of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties and CareerSource to target regional IT occupations in demand.
5 What occupations are available for training?
6 Occupations The Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program offers training in the following occupations. The length of training for each occupation is approximately one year. Applications Developer (Software) Applications Developer (Web) Help Desk Technician Network Support Technician
7 On-the-Job Training
8 On-the-Job Training IT Apprenticeship training includes competency-based Onthe-Job Training (OJT). Apprentices learn skills on the job in their workplace under the supervision of a journeyworker/mentor. The OJT period is 2000 hours or approximately 1 year. Credit for previous experience may be available for up to 1000 hours. Apprentices may receive wage increases as their skills advance.
9 Related Technical Instruction
10 Related Technical Instruction Related Technical Instruction (RTI) is a part of the Apprenticeship training process. Apprentices attend classroom instruction generally 2 nights per week for approximately 6 hours a week - a total of 153 hours per year. Apprentices are not paid for time spent in the classroom. Apprentices are responsible for purchasing the required textbooks or materials. Tuition fees are waived for Registered Apprentices.

12 Who is eligible for the Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program?
13 Minimum Qualifications To participate in the Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program, you must meet the minimum qualifications below. Be least 18 years of age. Provide proof of Florida residency. Possess a High School Diploma or GED. Be able to perform the work of the occupation. Be or become employed by a participating employer.

15 Documentation Required Complete the Tampa Bay IT Apprenticeship Program online application Proof of Age - Valid Driver s License or State ID Proof of Residency - Utility bill, Voter Registration Card Copy of High School Diploma or GED If a Veteran, DD-214 form
16 Applicant Interview Process Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and are employed in the occupation by an employer willing to sponsor them into the program will be scheduled for an interview with the Apprenticeship Committee. Upon acceptance into the program, the apprentice will attend the program orientation and begin training.
17 Apprentice Commitment to the Program
18 Apprentice Commitment Once accepted into the program the apprentice will attend a program orientation where completion of the following additional paperwork is required: State of Florida Apprenticeship Agreement Acknowledgement of Program Policies School application, parking and student ID documents
19 Apprentice Commitment Work faithfully and diligently at the occupation. Complete promptly and carefully all lessons, assignments and school tests required by the program committee. Protect the property of the employer. Comply with all rules, regulations and policies of the employer affecting their employment. Maintain a monthly record of On-the-Job Training activities and work hours. Submit completed records to the program coordinator in a timely manner. Attend all classroom training and maintain at least a C average. Respect and comply with all school district rules, regulations and policies.
20 Program Completion Apprentices who complete the required 153 hours of classroom instruction AND achieve all competencies during their 2000 hours of On-the-Job Training, will receive a Certificate of Completion from the State of Florida. Apprentices who complete training will also be eligible to take exams to obtain industry-recognized certifications. Note: Any fees associated with these exams will be the responsibility of the apprentice.
