2 Central Carolina Community College Electronic Health Record Specialist COURSE DESCRIPTION: This program focuses on maintaining medical records, information organization and data management for a variety of health occupations. This course will ensure quality student training focusing on accuracy, accessibility, privacy and security in both paper and electronic systems. The program consists of 3 components: Medical Terminology, Electronic Health Records and Medical Coding and Billing. This course is run as part I and part II. Students have to complete both parts to successfully complete this program. 2 registrations with fees are required. CERTIFICATION: Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive certificate of completion, and are eligible for the National health career Association Electronic Health Record Specialist Certification examination. 3 Refunds Patient Charting REFUNDS: If a student wishes or needs to withdraw from a course, he / she MUST contact the Continuing Education Director in the county where the course is being taught. A refund must be requested by the student in writing by completing a Continuing Education Withdrawal Form. This form must be signed by the Director and received by the Continuing Education Office. A refund will be issued as described by the policy below. A refund shall not be made EXCEPT under the following circumstances: A 100% refund of registration fee only shall be made if the student requests a refund and officially withdraws BEFORE the first day of class. A 100% refund shall be made if the class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. A 75% refund of registration fee only shall be made if the student requests and officially withdraws from the class before or on the official 10% point of the class. If a refund is not requested and approved as described above, no refund will be issued. Approved refunds (regardless of type of payment) will be issued from the Business Office. Please allow 4 6 weeks for approved refunds to be processed and mailed. 5 GRADES DURING THE COURSE: To successfully complete the Electronic Health Record Specialist program, the student should achieve a minimum of 80% or higher, as well as a satisfactory in the lab practical. Students will receive S = Satisfactory or U = Unsatisfactory ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:! 18 years of age or older! US issued HSD or GED [Official Transcript]! Photo ID and Social Security Card verification on registration and on 1st day of class! Computer Skills ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to attend every class if at all possible. A requirement of 80% attendance is necessary in order for the student to receive the needed information to pass the course and to demonstrate proficiency. Tardy Policy: Three [3] tardy marks = 1 absence Ten [10] minutes or more will be marked absent for that hour of class This course is run as part I and part II. Students have to complete both parts to successfully complete this program. 2 registrations with fees are required. CONDUCT GUIDELINES: Conversation: Do participate in class and clinical discussions but avoid side conversations that are unrelated to the course topics. Focus: Please focus on class and clinical activities as opposed to working on unrelated projects while in class. There is a significant amount of material to be covered and your attention to the topic is required at all times. Sleeping: Stay alert during class so that important content will not be missed. Excessive problems with sleeping during class may result in disciplinary action including but not limited to a marked absence. Updated 1/26/15/hj Page 5
6 Professionalism: A cooperative and professional attitude in class and clinical environments is expected at all times. Do not use inappropriate or offensive commentary or body language. Negative attitudes regarding the course, the instructor, assignments, clinical environments or fellow students will not be tolerated. Profanity and offensive language: Profanity and offensive language will not be tolerated either in the classroom or within the clinical setting. This includes both verbal and written communications. Cell phones and beepers: Cell phones and pagers are to be turned off when entering the classroom or clinical settings. Most clinical sites will require that all cell phone and pager devices remain off while on site due to the nature of the medical equipment present. Guests: Friends and children are not permitted in class or on the clinical sites. Food and drink: Food and drink is not allowed in the classroom. Use of alcohol and drugs is prohibited on school grounds and associated sites. Tobacco: Use of tobacco and tobacco products is prohibited. This applies to all campus facilities and grounds, and in vehicles located on the property of the college. Typically, violations of the conduct code will be dealt with as minor infractions. However, repetition of infractions or serious violations may lead to removal from the class and referral to the Director of Continuing Education for disciplinary action (up to and including dismissal from the program) or until the matter is resolved.
