Within this Prospectusyouwill find a variety of Vocational Courses for year olds. These are nationally recognised qualifications at either Entry, Level 1 or Level 2. OPEN DAY: The College has a major open day which is always held on the second Saturday in May. This is an opportunity to come and have a look around the College and discover the wide variety of courses and facilities that the College has. INFORMATION AND ADVICE MORNINGS: Careers and courses advice mornings are held in early November, February and March. These are opportunities to visit the College and have a discussion about any course that the College offers. Staff are willing to give unbiased careers advice relating to any of the land-based industries to individuals or schools if requested. Who is an Apprentice? It is someone who works for a skilled or qualified person in order to learn a trade or profession. The Apprenticeship programme enables you to earn while you learn. Apprenticeships are available to students 16 years old and over. Joining the Land-Based Community You can enrol on a Plumpton College course at any stage from 14 years old onwards. Whilst each stage has its own entry requirements, once on the course you join a group of students whose interests are all the same. This community experience is important in helping you develop your career prospects and eventually gaining employment. 3

All qualifications may be subject to change and recruitment Farm Livestock - Ivyland Farm 10 week block, 8 credits Introduction to different types of livestock Health and welfare of pigs, sheep and cows Horticulture - Ivyland Farm 10 week block, 8 credits Develop practical skills to maintain and care for plants Sowing seeds Health & Safety on a farm Practical hands-on sessions Handling and restraining, farm livestock and recording information Learn skills to care for farm livestock Watering and labelling newly sown seeds Plant and establish plants Pruning, weeding and training plants Health & Safety Achievement and Progression Assessment will be in the form of a portfolio including witness statements and photographs of practical skills Students who complete will be awarded units from the BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Vocational Studies These courses are for learners who are in Years 10 and 11 at schools who would benefit from an introduction to College vocational courses Learners can progress onto either the College s Rural Pathways or Level 1 courses 9
10 Day Release Courses at Crabbet Park (Worth, Crawley) (One day per week over two years) Crabbet Park Equitation Centre runs in conjunction with Plumpton College. This centre offers equine training and qualifications for both full and part time students. As well as courses for those at school (see above) the centre also provides day release vocational courses for 6th Form students, Workbased Diplomas, BHS exams, Qualifications to Level 3 and Employer Courses.
