Limited Warranty Tyan computer makes the warrants of this PX22 pedestal server chassis and its associated system components, in accordance with the terms define below, that it will either repair or replace this PX22 if it is proved that it is defective in its design, material, and/or workmanship in the course of its normal use within one year since the purchasing date from a PX22 authorized dealer. The terms of this Limited Warranty is defined as follows: The normal and intended use of PX22 should conform to the functional, environmental, and operational standards either published by Tyan Computer or generally accepted in the industry. Tyan Computer will not be liable for any PX22 which has been altered or modified, either intentionally or unintentionally, during its normal use. Tyan Computer shall have no obligation to malfunctions of any PX22 caused by defects other than that it is proved to be defective in its design, material, and/or workmanship in the course of its normal use within the warranty period. 2

4 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION The PX22 pedestal server chassis with hot swap HDD module or fixed HDD module (up to 8 HDD bays) is a brand new product of Tyan Computer, which provides the perfect solution for users. The PX22 s user-friendly (quick release) design makes it easy to access, upgrade, maintain and secure for users. This chassis is solid and reliable since it is made of high quality steel. It completely protects all components inside the chassis. The excellent ventilation keeps the temperature at proper degree which passes thermal simulation and relative product test. 4

6 CHAPTE 2 FEATURES and SPECIFICATIONS 2.2 Server Chassis Features Front Bezel: Once the front bezel is opened, users can access all drives directly without taking off any other components. The key lock on front bezel can prevent any unallowed access. There is a clear vertical oval-shaped plastic plate on the front bezel. Users can read the LEDs behind the plastic plate for indication of the running status with the front bezel closed. Front panel LEDs provide constant monitoring of basic functions while the server is operating (Fig. 2-6). 7 CHAPTE 2 FEATURES and SPECIFICATIONS I/O Panel: As other chassis, most I/O accesses are from the rear side of the PX22. There is a removable metal I/O plate, which can be changed based on the form factor of the motherboard. Two USB Port produce in the front I/O.. Cooling system: The PX22 comes with one 120mm powerful cooling fan. It is located beneath the power supply on the back panel of the chassis. The air is pulled from the front of the chassis, flows across the boards and out through the back vent holes. The cooling fan can effectively lower the temperature inside the chassis. Whenever it fails, users will be informed by the system right away. Security: There is a padlock loop on the rear of right side panel. Which can be used to prevent any unauthorized access to components inside the chassis. By the way, one electrical intrusion detector will alarm whenever the side panel is opened. The overall security system can perfectly protect the File Server.. Fig. 2-7 Single Power Supply Power Supply: The PX22 comes with a reliable, high performance and high efficiency ATX 12V 450W single power supply (Fig. 2-7) Drive Bays: This File Server case comes with three 5.25 drive bays. User can convert 5.25 bay to 3.5 bay with accessory Convert Bracket. HDD Module: The most advance design of this chassis is the modularization for it drive bays, which greatly increases the flexibility of this chassis. Users can choose whatever modules they need to build up a File Sever system that meets their requirement (4 x 1 hot swap HDD module and 4 x 1 fixed HDD module) 7

10 CHAPTE 3 HARDWARE SETUP PX22 is designed to maximize accessibility. Users can easily access, upgrade and maintain the server system. By using a Philips (cross-head) screw driver, users can install, upgrade or take off any components or parts. Note : Some components described below are optional, which need to be purchased separately. Caution : For your safety, please accomplish the following before any operation. 1. Turn off and unplug the AC power of the system. 2. Disconnect all peripheral and Communication lines that are connected to system. 3.1 Hot Swappable Module Setup & Setting Installing this Hot Swappable is an easy task. All you need is a Philips screwdriver. Step 1. Setting Dip Switches There are a total of 5 dip switches (Fig. 2-8 & Fig. 2-9). Please refer to the table below for a list of their functions. 11 CHAPTE 3 HARDWARE SETUP Step 2. Installing hard drives (Fig. 3-1) A. Take out the hard drive trays from the module by pulling out on the lever. B. Remove HDD tray from hot-swap frame and install HDD using #6-32 x 4L Note : Please take off all HDD jumpers, since the back plane will control the HDD directly and the setting will be setup through the Dip switches. C. Make sure you let the lever engage by Fig. 3-1 Installation of HDD trays itself. D. Give a final push of the HDD to make sure it is seated firmly into back plane. E. Once it is seated firmly, click the lever in place. Step 3. Installing module into chassis Examine the chassis to make sure the bay space is free of wires and other obstructions so the module can be slipped into the bay with ease. Step 4. Connecting power / signal cable There are two power supply connectors (4 pin) on the back plane. Simply connect the 68-pin cable to the SCSI module (or 22-pin cable to the SATA module). The connector is foolproof designed, so make sure not to force it on. 3.2 The Side Panel Operation Beside the insertion of drives of modules, the installation of all other components needs to go through from the side please refer to the next procedures for taking off or placing back the side panel. 11

12 CHAPTE 3 HARDWARE SETUP Taking off the Side Panel 1. Take off all connection cables. 2. Unlock and take off the Push Latch and padlock from lock loop if any. Shift the Side 3. Shift the side panel to the Panel about 15 direction of back panel about 15 mm and take it mm, and take it off (Fig. 3-2) off. Placing Back the Side Panel 1. Position the side panel to the chassis, and ensure the tabs on Fig. 3-2 Taking off the Side Panel the side panel align with slots of the chassis. 2. Slide the side panel toward the front panel of the chassis until the tabs firmly engaged in the chassis. 3. Tighten the side panel with screws. 3.3 The Front Bezel Operation Opening / Taking off the Front Bezel 1. To open the front door, Please free the lock (Fig. 2-1). 2. To take off the front bezel, Please shift hook (Fig. 3-3). Note : Don t need to take off the front bezel to maintain Hot Swappable HDD Module. Closing / Placing Back the Front Bezel 1. 13 CHAPTE Installing Hot Swap HDD Module Examine the chassis to make sure the bays space is free of wires and other obstructions so the module can be shift latch and slipped into chassis for Hot Swap HDD Module (Fig. 3-4). Fig. 3-5 Taking off cover plane Fig. 3-6 Installing HDD in Fixed Module 3.6 The 5.25 Drive Operation Installing a 5.25 drive is an easy task. The following are the steps of manipulation. 1. Open the side panel and taking off the front bezel is commended. 2. Take off the bracket of the bay where you want to place the 5.25 drive in. 13

14 CHAPTE 3 3. Follow 5.25 lock plane directional to unlock and installing 5.25 drive and lock to fixed drive. 4. Setup testing.
