2 Overview of Graduate Programs When you enroll at Long Island University s Brooklyn Campus, you will become part of a diverse community of caring, dedicated and motivated individuals who teach and learn in an environment that promotes growth, creativity and respect a place where everyone works together and strives to learn from one another. Our graduate programs seek to provide college graduates with the opportunity to work with faculty members in formal courses, in seminars and on research projects that encourage sound independent thought and the maximum development of each student s intellectual capacities. Courses are designed to help students acquire and refine professional skills, as well as increase their appreciation and understanding of cultural values. Graduate classes meet primarily in the late afternoon and evening, with some courses offered on weekends. A year-round schedule, including two six-week summer sessions, is offered. Approximately 2,700 graduate students attend programs at the Brooklyn Campus. Listed here are the nearly 90 graduate degrees and programs offered at the Brooklyn Campus. The School offers a comprehensive curriculum and hands-on learning experience you ll need to compete and succeed in today s rapidly evolving job market. Classes are taught by faculty members who are experts in their fields with extensive practical backgrounds and experience. The School offers the following programs: Master s Degree in Business Administration Our M.B.A. program is designed for the working professional who wishes to attend evening and weekend classes while pursuing a career. Concentrations are available in accounting, finance, international business, management, management information systems and marketing. 3 Master of Science in Accounting Master of Science in Taxation The M.S. in Accounting and the M.S. in Taxation programs are designed for students and professionals who have completed an undergraduate accounting degree and who seek to enhance their technical and professional skills through completion of an advanced degree in accounting or taxation. Our program is suitable for individuals in various careers who want to pursue a managerial position in this growing field. 6 SCHOOL OF NURSING Whether your interest lies in working in a hospital setting, a clinic or the community, the School of Nursing offers programs that help individuals to develop the skills required to be caring and effective health care professionals. What began as a bachelor s degree program for registered nurses in 1955, has become a multifaceted school offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate options. The School of Nursing is exceptionally well positioned to fill the need for nursing professionals in the growing areas of health promotion; home care of the acute, long-term and chronically ill; and community health. The School offers programs to prepare both the entry-level and established practitioner. B.S./M.S. Accelerated Programs For licensed registered nurses with an associate degree who wish to fulfill career goals by combining the bachelor s and master s degree with a major in nursing. The program totals 160-credits and leads to an M.S. with a major in nursing in either the Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Executive track. Master of Science Degree and Post-Master s Certification Programs Prepares the baccalaureate-degree nurse to become certified as a nurse practitioner in Adult, Family or Geriatric primary care. Graduates are eligible for New York State certification and are prepared to sit for national certification exams. Registered nurses with non-nursing baccalaureate degrees may be able to qualify for entrance to the graduate program by validation of knowledge through required tests. The programs are approved by the New York State Education Department and fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). 7 ARNOLD & MARIE SCHWARTZ COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AND HEALTH SCIENCES The Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers a tradition of excellence that is difficult to match. It has completed more than 100 years of service to the state and the nation in the education of more than 20,000 undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students. One out of every four pharmacists in New York State is a graduate of the College. The College of Pharmacy offers graduate curricula leading to the Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutics (Ph.D.) degree and the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in the following fields: Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology/Toxicology, Pharmacy Administration and Drug Regulatory Affairs.
