Boarding school Our Boarding School mission is to grant an optimum environment for the development of the students and provide them with a sense of community and a place, where they can learn respect for others. The residence guarantees a safe and quiet environment in which to live, socialize and make the most of the boarding experience. Boarders are offered comfortable accommodation, healthy and tasty food, extracurricular activities and what is more important the personalized support of our devoted staff. At the residence we help students to organize their time. The boarding lifestyle provides an excellent base to enjoy school and make friends while getting the balance between social life and school work and succeed both in studies and social life. Additional activities designed for the boarders will help them to develop strong relationships with day students and teachers, and to achieve their potential. The estate forms part of the Garraf Community and we celebrate local events and traditional fiestas in order to help boarders to immerse in the bright local customs and traditions, and broaden their cultural outlook. ISB has a truly international feel, with students from a wide range of countries making up the boarding community. Current and recent students hail from Russia, China, Germany, Venezuela, Italy and Spain. 4 5

4 Despite only being in boarding for one year, I have found it a very enriching environment where I made many friends, who I am sure I will keep in touch with for years to come. Everyone in ISB was welcoming and helpful when I joined - I always had someone to explain the ropes. My Housemaster and tutors were extremely supportive in helping me make new friends and addressing issues which I was concerned with. The structure of the boarding allowed me to balance between social life and school work, and helped me improve academically - I have performed far better than when I was just a day student. Now I feel prepared to take the next step towards my career.

5 THE BOARDING WEEK ISB is a place where everyone is accepted and cared for; a home away from home; a place where everyone is respected and loved; a place with the most caring and supportive staff. daily routine meals facilities On a daily basis, boarding school is not much different to the routine students would follow at home. The staff wakes the boarders up between am so they can get ready for breakfast. Once it is time for school, they leave the boarding house with the driver and become students like everyone else. The school day lasts from 9am to 4pm. After school the students may be practicing sport, rehearsing for a performance or be involved in a club activity. There are also snacks and daily study hours planned in the schedule. After dinner, students are free until bedtime. In ISB we serve high-quality food cooked with quality ingredients by our professionals, who understand the kind of nutrition growing bodies need. The breakfast is a good choice of food served buffet style. During the school day all our students have healthy and tasty lunch in the school dining room that goes varying each day. The supper is prepared in a Boarding house kitchen by the chef and served in the luminous dining hall by the rules of dining etiquette. Students are also allowed to keep their favourite foods in the fridges provided in each room. Our boarding school is equipped with a kitchen, bathrooms, TV, telephones and laundry. The house has WiFi facilities and senior students are allowed laptops or PCs in their bedrooms. There are also communal computing facilities in a dedicated area. 6 ACTIVITIES We are aware of the importance of providing resources for our students in both their studies and their extracurricular activities in order to develop their character and to cultivate and grow their innate talents. classes sports Drama, music and art are daily studies throughout the year, and students prepare presentations, expositions and shows for their parents and families to enjoy and to demonstrate their achievements and talents. These presentations are made at Halloween, International day, Christmas festival, end-ofcourse shows, ISB has Talent, etc. ISB has extensive facilities. These include swimming pool, tennis courts, theatre and gymnasium. Each activity is supported by experienced staff trained in that discipline, who knows how to appreciate the level and ability of each student and to help bring out the best in them. Swimming and tennis are included in the study programme at no extra cost. The swimming classes are supervised by two professional coaches and the swimming teacher supervise. At the beginning of each school year, courses are designed to suit the needs of that year s students. Parents always can receive the up-to-date information on the clubs, which are running. ISB cooperates closely with the majority of the sports clubs in the town, which also gives a possibility for the boarders to attend the clubs not available directly from the school center, such as horse riding, sailing sports, and local professional sports training teams. excursions and trips We offer trips to a variety of locations, sights, and cultural places outside the school that allow the students to experience and share with fellow students new spaces and receive information from specialists in different areas. This helps them develop curiosity about the world around them. I love ISB and I really enjoy living close to my friends. The facilities are incredible and there is always plenty to do. Most of all, I love being part of a community, which cares for me and puts my interests first. Each and every one of our activities is designed to develop in our boarders their personal capabilities and help them to integrate into the multicultural world in which we live. 11

7 LOCATION THE HOUSE The area where ISB is located, is a quiet, respectable residential zone that overlooks the town. It is very easy to reach and has a plenty of free parking. The campus has playing fields, a sports centre and swimming pool. All of these can be used after school hours and during the weekends. *Sitges a picturesque coastal town situated in the heart of the Garraf area, just 25 minutes from Barcelona, renowed worldwide for its Film Festival and Carnival. Located between the Garraf Massif and the sea, it is known for its 17 sandy beaches, nightspots, and historical sites. It is an exceptional location, an open, cosmopolitan town in a magical setting with more than three hundred sunny days a year. While the roots of Sitges artsy reputation date back to the late 19th century, when Spanish painter Santiago Rusiñol took up residence there during the summer, the town became a centre for the 1960s counterculture in mainland Spain, and became known as Ibiza in miniature. The residence, Clos la Plana, is a separate house situated within 8 minutes drive from school. The building is a wonderful example of Art Nouveu architecture built in 1913 that has been fully renovated and equipped for the needs of the students, yet preserving its architectural value and the majestic spirit. Situated in the natural park of Garraf and surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and flower gardens in a quiet environment, the country mansion and its territory represent themselves a perfect spot to enjoy a healthy and friendly atmosphere. Sitges has been referred to as the Saint-Tropez of Spain, with property prices approaching those of the most expensive European cities, the main reason for this being the setting by the sea and the surrounding Parc Natural del Garraf. Proximity to Barcelona-El Prat Airport is also a major advantage. Strolling around the streets of Sitges you ll discover an interesting series of architectural gems and unique buildings. Starting at the train station and covering Francesc Gumà, Sant Isidre, Illa de Cuba streets and the Passeig de la Ribera Esplanade... you ll find some of the most significant homes from the period of the Americanos, those who emigrated to Cuba and Puerto Rico between the 18th century and the first third of the 20th century. 8 I live quite close to the residence but I decided to spend a year away from home, living with my student friends. This is one more great lesson to be learned. Now I feel capable of facing new challenges and I am prepared to go to university anywhere.

Boarding school is an incredible experience of living in one big family of friends under the same roof, with peers from different corners all over the world, each of them with new stories to tell, but yet sharing the same interests and discussing the same issues. The school as well as the residence have their own kitchens and all our menus have been devised and supervised by the school s nutritionist in order to guarantee a balanced and nutritious diet. ISB menus are very varied and differ each day. We also offer the chance of personalizing menus to all our students with medical or religious needs. Parents receive a copy of the menu for each month and have the chance to consult personally with our experts. The Open Library is a space created to promote and stimulate the educational, civic and cultural activities of our students. The library is open in the afternoon and after school for the families and friends of the school to enable them to participate in the education of their children. In ISB we understand the importance of making the right career decision and want to guide and support students in making the responsible selection of university. ISB has built strong relationships with universities worldwide and works on empowering students to explore the possibilities in accordance with their interests and abilities. This is a programme developed by ISB for children older than 7 who join the school without any knowledge of English. This service has an additional cost. In order to meet the diverse needs of our students, this programme offers additional personalised support for specific English language needs. This service has an additional cost. The Educational and Psychological department of the school prepares complementary programmes adapted to the specific educational needs of the students in order to reinforce their cognitive, social and emotional abilities. Annually ISB organizes Summer Camps for the children aged 2-16 that participate in different programmes created specifically for their age. These courses include a wide programme of activities, which vary depending on the course chosen, giving special attention to learning and practicing languages.
