3 Brief Introduction The RECON-4 Portable Multi-gas Detector Software is required for data management and reconfiguring of the RECON-4 portable multi-gas. 1. Software Installation 1.1 Insert the CD software and double click the setup file to start the installation. 1.2 Click Next. 1.3 Input [your name] and [your company name], then click Next. 1.4 The install program automatically creates a folder on the C: drive for the software. You can also click Change to select a different location to save the software and then click Next. 1

4 1.5 The shortcut is installed for the current user by default, and if you want to install a shortcut for all users, please select the second option. Then click Next. 1.6 Click Next to install the software to the selected location. 1.7 Click Finish to complete the installation. 2. Connecting the RECON-4 to the computer Connect the RECON-4 to the computer via the data transfer cable that came with the unit. Also supplied is a USB to RS232 Adapter. 5 3. Using Portable Multi-gas Detector Software The software is used to: a. Set the user options b. Download data logs and event logs c. Data checking, analyzing, output to EXCEL file and printing d. Setting or Modifying Parameters 3.1 Definition of each icon: Open COM: Opens the COM port. Close COM: Closes the COM port Data Downloads: Downloads the data logs and event logs to the computer. Modify Parameters: Modifies the parameters of the RECON-4. Output to Excel: Outputs the data logs and event logs to an excel file. Data Print: Prints the data logs and event logs. Curve Analysis: Analyzes the data logs and event logs in graphs Delete History Data: Deletes the data history on RECON-4 or computer. Exit: Exits the software. 3.2 Data Downloads: Click the icon of Data Downloads to download the data logs and event logs to the computer. 3

6 After downloading all the data logs and event logs to the computer successfully, it will show an indication window as follows: If there is no data on the RECON-4, it will show an indication window as follows: 3.3 Data Review: The user can review the data history on the software in the following different ways: Detector No. (Detector serial number) Date Detecting Gas Record Type Review data history by Detector No. (Detector serial number): Check the Detector No. box and then below it in the drop down box select the detector serial number that you want to review. Then click Review to display the data. 4

7 3.3.2 Review data history by Date: Check the Date box, and then below it select the date range that you want to review. Then click, Review to display the data Review data history by Detecting Gas: Check the Detecting Gas box, and then below it in the drop down menu select the gas type that you want to review. Then click Review to display the data. 5

8 3.3.4 Review data history by Record Type: Check the Record Type box, and then below it in the drop down menu select the record type that you want to review. Then click Review to display the data. 3.4 Analyze the data logs and event logs in a Graphical Analysis The user can see the data logs and event logs in a graph by clicking on Curve Analysis or the icon follows: as 6

9 3.5 Output to Excel: Click the icon for Output to Excel to output the data to an Excel file. If there is no data to output to excel file, it will show an indication window as following: 7

10 3.6 Data Print: Click the icon for Data Print to print out the data logs and event logs. 3.7 Delete History Data: Click the icon for Delete History Data to delete the data history on the computer Delete Records: Click Operation then select Delete Records to delete all the data logs and event logs on the RECON-4. Delete records on RECON-4 8

11 3.8 Modify Parameters: Click the icon for Modify Parameters to open the window for modification of parameters. There are two parts of the Modify Parameter window, one part is the Public Parameter and another part is Parameters for each sensor channel. Note: Read: Read out present setting. Setup: Save and setup the modification Modify Public Parameters Please check the box of the item that you want to modify first Modify Date and Time: Check the box of the item that you want to change, then input correct data and click Setup Modify Contrast: Check the Contrast box and then select the contrast of the display that you prefer. Note: that the value should be between 0 and 20, and then click Setup. 9

12 Modify Profiles: Check the Profiles box, select the alarm type that you prefer in the drop down menu, and then click Setup Modify Backlight Time: Check the Backlight Time box, and then select the backlight time for the display that you prefer. Note: that the value should be between 0 and 50, and then click Setup Modify Interval of Log: Check the Interval of Log box, and then select the Interval of Logging that you prefer. Note: that the value should be between 0 and 10, and then click Setup Closed Sensor: The user can close (Disable) the sensor channel by checking the box of the channel number and then click Setup Turn off Auto-zero Calibration: The user can turn off the function of auto-zero calibration checking the Turn off Auto-zero Calibration box and then click Setup. If the function of auto-zero calibration is open (Enabled), the RECON-4 will do zero calibration automatically when powered on. Note: That it is very dangerous if you power the RECON-4 on in a hazardous area with gas with the function of auto-zero calibration open (Enabled). So, it is highly suggested to turn off the auto-zero calibration function. Contact ENMET Technical Support for more information on this procedure. 10

13 3.8.2 Modify Parameter of each sensor channel: The user can modify the calibration gas concentration, low alarm level and high alarm level of each sensor channel by checking the box of the item they want to modify and then click Setup Channel 1 Oxygen (O2): The Adjusting Concentration for the Oxygen channel can only be 20.9 % by volume. The Low alarm level for Oxygen should be between 16.0 and 19.5 % by volume. The high alarm level for Oxygen should be between 22.4 and 24.0 % by volume Channel 2 Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) The Adjusting Concentration for the H2S channel can only be between 20.0 and 80.0 ppm. The Low alarm level for H2S should be between 5.0 and 15.0 ppm. The high alarm level for H2S should be between 15.0 to 30.0 ppm. 11

14 Channel 3 Carbon monoxide (CO) The Adjusting Concentration of the channel of CO can only be between and ppm. The Low alarm level for CO should be between 25.0 and ppm. The high alarm level for CO should be between to ppm Channel 4 COMB (Combustible Gas)/Methane (CH4) The Adjusting Concentration for the COMB/Methane channel can only be between 20.0 and 80.0 % LEL. The Low alarm level of COMB/ Methane should be between 10.0 and 25.0 % LEL. The high alarm level of COMB/ Methane should be between 25.0 to 80.0 % LEL. 12

15 NOTE FOR SECTIONS 3.9: The following sections 3.9, and describe advanced features of the RECON/4 which are currently under development. (See Note for Sections 3.9) 3.9 Input and Output Calibration File: The user can replace sensors in the RECON-4 by utilizing input and output calibration files via the software. For more detailed information regarding these technical procedures, contact ENMET Technical Support at (See Note for Sections 3.9) Input Calibration File: If the End-user wants to replace the sensor, the manufacturer will send a new sensor with a calibration data file to the End-user. The End-user can replace the sensor and input the calibration data file of this sensor. Once the new sensor and the new sensor data file are transferred to the End-users unit, the RECON-4 should perform properly. CAUTION: The new sensor should always be tested with gas to verify proper calibration. Procedure to replace new sensor: a. Install the new sensor to the RECON-4. b. Connect the RECON-4 to the computer and open the software. c. Select Operation and then Click on Input Calibration File in the drop down menu. 13

16 d. Select and open the calibration data file provided by the manufacturer. e. The calibration data will then be input into the RECON-4. f. Once the new calibration data is input into the RECON-4, the instrument should work properly with the new sensor. (See Note for Sections 3.9) Output Calibration File: Procedure to output calibration data file: The user can also output the calibration data file of a sensor from the RECON-4 for saving or changing the sensor to another unit. For example, if the user wants to change the Oxygen sensor of one RECON-4 to another, HE / SHE can output the calibration data of the Oxygen sensor first. Then install the Oxygen sensor to another RECON-4, and THEN input the output calibration data file to the new RECON-4. In this way, the Oxygen sensor will work properly on another unit. CAUTION: The new sensor should always be tested with gas to verify proper calibration. a. Select Operation and then Click on Output Calibration File in the drop down menu. b. Check the box of the sensor whose profile / calibration data file you want transferred to an Output file, and click OK. 14

17 c. Select the location that you want to save the calibration data file. e. Then the calibration data will be transferred successfully. 4. About the Software: Click About it will show the version information of the software. 5. Exit the Software: Click the icon for Exit to exit the software.
