2 Welcome from the Founder Dear Participant, Welcome to the Third Annual Arizona Healthcare Diversity Summit hosted by CVS. This great event offers an opportunity for you to observe, learn, network and hear different perspectives from a diverse mix of executives who have made the climb up the corporate ladder. The theme for today s summit is Transformational Diversity in Healthcare. You will gather a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise from top professionals speaking on topics pertinent to today s healthcare leaders, as well as personal and professional challenges they faced while successfully rising to the top in their respective organizations. I encourage you to take the initiative to meet new colleagues, talk openly about today s topics and exchange ideas. 4 Keynote Speaker Debora Simmons, PhD, RN, CCNS Former Senior Vice President & Chief Quality Officer St. Luke s Episcopal Health System Center Debora Simmons, PhD, RN, CCNS, has a significant history of commitment to the delivery of safe and reliable healthcare by application of evidence-based interventions. Her expertise and accomplishments bridge technology, clinical, and regulatory imperatives for healthcare. Her contributions to electronic health records have focused on usability, implementation, data analysis and meaningful use. Debora s past experience has focused on quality, safety and efficacy in healthcare. She is proficient at developing and implementing performance improvement programs, as well as, programs to meet regulatory compliance. In her last role, she was successful in strategic planning for quality programs and reporting, along with achieving $15 million in meaningful use incentives and lead ISO certification for all system hospitals. She has lead a highly successful performance improvement program for physicians at a large academic medical center, created a technology enabled complex congestive heart failure management program and taught on multiple levels in academic and healthcare settings. She has served in leadership roles that include Chief Quality Officer for a large healthcare system and complex Federal research programs including the Strategic Healthcare Advanced Research program for the Office of the National Coordinator for Technology and safety expert review for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Dr. Simmons has served on the United States Pharmacopeia Safe Medications Use Expert Committee since She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Safe Medication Practices. In 2011, she received the Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Projects Grants and Programs Management Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She serves on the Board of the Healthcare Diversity Council. Her research presently focuses on safety in electronic healthcare systems. 4
5 Moderator T.K. Floyd Attorney at Law & National Certified Counselor Law Office of T.K. Floyd, PLLC T.K. is a licensed attorney, a trained mediator, and a certified and licensed professional counselor intern who offers compassionate advocacy to her clients. She is also active in the San Antonio community, where she puts into practice her belief in giving back to others through mentoring, pro bono legal services, and writing/speaking engagements. T.K. graduated from Purdue University with an undergraduate degree (engineering management) in 1994 and graduate degree (higher education administration) in She earned her law degree cum laude from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in She also received a graduate degree in counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio in T.K. has had a variety of professional experiences, including serving on the student life staff at St. Mary s University and working as a law clerk to two federal judges (Judge C. Arlen Beam on the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit in Lincoln, Nebraska and Judge Rosemary M. Collyer on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia). She has also worked as a commercial litigator for three law firms Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP (San Antonio, Texas), McDermott Will & Emery LLP (Washington, DC), and Cokinos, Bosien & Young (San Antonio, Texas). After spending most of her legal career as a commercial litigator, T.K. decided to take a leap of faith to focus her practice on family law matters. She made this transition based on her desire to help build and strengthen families in the community. Through the Law Office of T.K. Floyd, PLLC, she offers compassionate and skillful legal assistance with adoptions, divorces, child custody disputes, child support cases, simple wills, and probate matters. Additionally, T.K. was named the 2015 Adult Mentor of the Year by the San Antonio Mentoring Forum and a Campus Partner-of-the-Year Honoree in 2014 and 2015 for her work as a mentor at Jefferson Middle School in the Northside Independent School District. T.K. also serves on the Board of Directors of Life Skills for Living, Inc., a non-profit organization that uses faith to help members of the community learn anger management, stress management, and other life skills. She is a member of Now Word Covenant Church, where she serves as the assistant church director and teaches bible study. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 5
6 Panelists Marion K. Kelly Director, Community & Business Relations Within Public Affairs Mayo Clinic Marion Kelly serves as Director for the Office of Community & Business Relations within Public Affairs at Mayo Clinic. In this role, Mr. Kelly provides leadership for the organizations efforts to build solid neighbor, civic and corporate relationships. Community in its broadest sense encompasses the entire Southwest region of the United States. In addition to providing leadership in Community Affairs, he is also responsible for institutionalizing Diversity as a corporate objective within the strategic plan of Mayo Clinic. Mr. Kelly s broad experiences are in both the education and political arena. His experiences include teaching elementary education, working in the United States Senate, Indiana University School of Medicine Administration and Assistant Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs at Mayo Medical School. Mr. Kelly was an appointee in the first Bush White House administration as Special Assistant for At Risk Youth Initiatives at the United States Department of Labor, and as the White House Liaison for the Labor Department. He serves his local community as Chair, Diversity Leadership Alliance, Chair, National Multiple Sclerosis Society Arizona Affiliate Board, the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce Board, as well as Community Celebrating Diversity Board. Marion is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated and the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Gamma Mu Boule. He is married to Francine Ellison Kelly. They have three adult married children, Kristopher (Karli), 31, Ericka (Khristopher), 27 and Kyle (Hollie), 26 and 3 grandchildren. However, their pet Yorkshire Terrier Boots runs the household. Akosua Mensah Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner Minute Clinic Akosua A. Mensah, joined the Minute Clinic as family nurse practitioner in January 2015 from the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. She is a graduate of Grand Canyon University and has over 9 years of nursing background in multiple specialties such as emergency nursing, intensive care, progressive care, medical surgical and many more just to name a few. Akosua is married to her husband Benny for seven years and are blessed with three incredible children; Maureen, Josiah and Aaron. When not working, she loves to volunteer at her children s school, enjoys cooking, helping out with Sunday school at church and most importantly spending time with her husband and children. 6
7 Teresa Peña, M.Ed, CHI Cultural Sensitivity Administrator Mercy Maricopa Intergrated Care Teresa Peña is the Cultural Sensitivity Administrator for Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care, the Regional Behavioral Health Authority for Maricopa County. Ms. Peña has worked in the field of Behavioral Health Services for almost 25 years and Cultural Competence in particular for the past 8 years. She is very community oriented and has extensive experience working with families, youth and children, community mobilization, program development and evaluation. Ms. Peña is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter and a certified Cultural Competence trainer for the ADH/DBHS Cultural Competence 101: Embracing Diversity; she is also bilingual and bicultural. For the past eight years, Ms. Peña has focused on cultural diversity implementation in the public behavioral health system, helping to create culturally responsive environments and compliance with the federally mandated Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Service standards. Cheynne Ross Vice President, Compliance & Regulatory Affairs Bridgeway Health Solutions Cheyenne Ross is the Vice President of Compliance & Regulatory Affairs at Bridgeway Health Solutions, a managed care organization that serves the Medicaid Long Term Care population. Cheyenne graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Communications and from the University of Phoenix with a Masters in Management. Cheyenne maintains several certifications including Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified in Health Care Compliance (CHC) and Certified Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC). Cheyenne is a strategic leader with over 14 years of experience in translating Federal and State regulatory requirements into maximum outcomes for Medicaid and Medicare members. Cheyenne is responsible for regulatory oversight; developing strategic outcome based initiatives; and serving as a liaison between the health plan and governmental regulators. Cheyenne has a professional reputation built on quality, service, and uncompromising ethics and is currently involved with several organizations including the Arizona Diversity Council Board Member, Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Insurance and Health Care Committee Member, the Arizona Compliance & Ethics Council member and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Delta Beta Omega Chapter. 7
8 Angela Williams, RPh Senior Director, Med D Quality and Reporting CVS Health Angela Williams is a Senior Director within the Government Services organization with overall responsibility for Quality Assurance. In her current role, Angela has transformed the quality monitoring strategy to be centered on regulatory risk elimination and driving best in class beneficiary and client experiences across our Medicare D, Medicaid and Exchanges lines of business. Angela has worked for CVS Health for 15+ years with responsibility over multiple different areas of the PBM including Medicare D Enrollment Operations, Mail Operations and Clinical Operations. Prior to CVS Health Angela held leadership roles in the Retail Pharmacy industry. Angela is a pharmacist by trade, graduating in 1994 from Washington State University. Angela has a passion for education and mentoring which inspired her to serve as preceptor, leader of the internship rotational program as well as adjunct faculty member at multiple Universities across the United States. Angela graduated Washington State University as President of the School of Pharmacy s honors program. Angela has achieved several recognitions in the Pharmacy Innovation space to include being recognized in the State of Washington for expanding the clinical role of Pharmacists in the retail setting and most recently for her efforts in creating and executing against the PBM s flagship clinical program, Pharmacy Advisor, for which she received the PBM Innovation Award of the Year for Innovative Clinical programs. Angela expanded the PBM s URAC accreditations and was the first to bring URACs new accreditation for health care call centers to the PBM. Under her leadership, Pharmacy Advisor, also was awarded the Bronze award for Health Care Clinical Programs by URAC. Angela s responsibilities have varied over the course of her career to include acquisition integrations of clinical programs, financial modeling, managing client relationships, driving large scale IT/Capital projects and creating start-up departments and programs. Angela is currently based in our Shea office in Scottsdale, Arizona. 8
