World Bank Research/Reports on Public in Egypt Egypt - Traffic congestion in Cairo : an overview of the causes as well as possible solutions This is an overview of the causes as well as possible solutions for traffic congestion in Cairo provides potential solutions, based on the work of the ongoing Phase II of the Cairo Traffic Congestion Study and previous studies, including the World Bank's Proposed Urban Strategy for Greater Cairo. It describes the many causes for traffic congestion, from fuel subsidies to poor traffic planning. The economic costs could be as high as 4 percent of GDP. Solutions include improving public transport and making the use of private vehicles expensive. Improving traffic management and using traffic lights can be implemented quickly. Longer lasting and sustainable solutions include the expansion of the public transport system and revision of transport pricing. Report#: Date: July 1, 2012 Report#: Source: World bank website

World Bank Research/Reports on Public in Egypt Egypt - Cairo traffic congestion study - phase 1 This report discusses the first phase of a study to assess the baseline economic cost of current road traffic congestion in the Greater Cairo Metropolitan Area (GCMA) to prepare policy recommendations and an action plan to reduce traffic congestion. The report presents an analysis of the extent of traffic congestion in the GCMA, its main causes and key locations. Specifically, describes the detailed analysis performed on the Floating Car Survey (FCS); also presents the results of the consultative workshops conducted with traffic experts from academia, industry and Ministry of Interior. It presents the estimation of the direct economic cost of traffic congestion in Cairo; economic costs of travel time delay, travel time unreliability, the costs of excess fuel consumption, the associated cost of CO2 emission due to fuel consumption, and eventually total direct economic costs of traffic congestion in Cairo can be estimated. - Report#: Date: November 1, 2010

Research priorities and key topics [in Egypt] Towards Implementing Sustainable Urban Mobility Policies

Promoting River in Egypt

Research priorities and key topics Freight Movement and Road Safety

Research priorities and key topics Egypt How to achieve Smart, Seamless, Sustainable and Safe Public given the limited resources Improving public transport: The Cities of Egypt are suffering from bottlenecks and traffic problems that need to be addressed. Research in this area is urgently needed and as the Arab Academy is mainly specialized in and Logistics the government bodies return to us for solutions and decision support. 1-Barriers to efficiency and responsiveness of public transport and strategies for improvement. 2- A comparative study between public transport in Egyptian cities and major European cities. 3- Accessibility and affordability of public transport for all: how to achieve it in Egypt Encouraging use of public transport : In Egypt there are Traffic problems due to the extensive use of private cars. This is due to the low frequency and availability of good quality and accessible public transport 1-The socio economic benefit of encouraging public transport. 2- Impact of fuel subsidies on the use of Public transport. 3- The socio- economics costs of poor public transport Facilitating multimodal journeys : The use of more than one mode provides alternatives and flexibility to commuters The Paradox.is how to provide flexibility, efficiency while maintaining affordable prices 1-Improving Interface points for achieving seamless Urban mobility. 2 Integration of different modes of transport as a means of achieving seamless urban mobility

Research priorities and key topics Egypt How to achieve Smart, Seamless, Sustainable and Safe Public given the limited resources Public Finance: Public Private Partnership in Urban transport: challenges and opportunities Urban Pricing strategies: Fairness and feasibility issues in public transport The economics of Public : Achieving Supply / Demand equilibrium in public transport

Research priorities and key topics Egypt Deployment of clean vehicles: Towards a greener and more sustainable public transport in Egypt Urban logistics: urban freight transport is vital in maintaining the economic functions of the city1-public Private Partnership for improving Urban Logistics. 2-Distribution networks and urban logistics optimization 3-reliabilty and availabilty: Benchmarking urban logistics Performance: A case study approach The effect of Parking management on Seamless Public : the case of Egypt Analysis of Factors affecting location selection of Parking areas Passenger information and traveller information services for promoting public transport use Information Technology and e-ticketing as major tools for improving public transport planning and promoting commuters experience. Information availability and e-ticketing as a major source of users satisfaction Use of smart phone applications for traffic data collection and information dissemination Innovative means of information dissemination and data collection for Planning and meeting new generations needs Smart phones and accessibility of public transport

Your expectations from cooperation with EC 1 Realizing the vital role of Public in sustainable economic growth and the high cost to the economy that poor public transport constitute, it becomes essential and a priority for a specialized university as we are to seek means of conducting profound and multi-disciplinary research in cooperation with leading research institutions and learn from their accumulated experience in problem solving and their analytical tools and capabilities to provide decision support and policy recommendations to achieve Smart, Seamless, Sustainable and Safe Public in Egypt given the limited resources In view of the development and sustainability challenges in my countries it is important to study in depth the main constraints that hinder efforts and act as bottlenecks in the development process. working with the top experts in research of the field will help raise the standard and quality of research in Egypt and in my university As the cost of conducting research is high it is important to be able to fund such ambitious research plans

Your expectations from cooperation with EC 2 To widen international experience and exposure To upgrade research capabilities To build expertise in transport related fields To widen the scope of my University s research to include all modes of Public transport as well as freight and urban logistics
