(360) supplitt@comcast.net COURSE DESCRIPTION: K-12 Educators will explore selected Museum Masters from Egyptian times to Modern art, and in a systematic way, study timelines, artistic movements, artists and their masterpieces. From your texts you will develop classroom lesson plans from your choice of over forty Masters. Locate priceless art via the Internet that will directly connect you with a host of world-renowned museums. Through-out this course and by downloading a simple PowerPoint presentation you will have a greater understanding of how to view these classic paintings, times lines, colorful paintings, and the artistic movement of these creative master artists. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon completion of this course, participants will have: 1. A greater understanding of the art, the masters and the timeline of the given movements. 2. Knowledge on how to access via the Internet the museums that house classic pieces of art. 3. Discovered hidden techniques, symbolisms and mediums used by chosen master artists. 4. Developed an inventory of lesson plans and resources for grade appropriate classroom use and connections. 5. Reflected on their own knowledge of art and how to establish lessons for classroom use. 6. Customized and successfully implemented and integrated Masters in the Museum lessons. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of all specified assignments is required for issuance of hours or credit. The Heritage Institute does not award partial credit. HOURS EARNED: Completing the basic assignments (Section A. Information Acquisition) for this course automatically earns participant s their choice of 60 Washington State Clock Hours or 60 Oregon PDUs. 2 UNIVERSITY QUARTER CREDIT INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS FOR UNIVERSITY QUARTER CREDIT Continuing Education Quarter credits are awarded by Antioch University Seattle (AUS). AUS requires 75% or better for credit at the 400 level (Upper Division) and 85% or better to issue credit at the 500 level (Post-Baccalaureate). These criteria refer both to the amount and quality of work submitted. 1. Completion of Information Acquisition assignments 30% 2. Completion of Learning Application assignments 40% 3. Completion of Integration Paper assignment 30% CREDIT/NO CREDIT (No Letter Grades or Numeric Equivalents on Transcripts) Antioch University Seattle (AUS) Continuing Education (CE) Quarter credit is offered on a Credit/No Credit basis; neither letter grades nor numeric equivalents are on a transcript. 400 level credit is equal to a C or better, 500 level credit is equal to a B or better. 4 Assignment #7: Book of Famous Paintings: Timeline of the Masters Make a creative timeline of all the Masters of the Museum that you have selected. Take a jpeg image. Assignment #8: Create a Resource File From the twenty (20) different Masters of Art that you have previously selected create a web based resource, PowerPoint, visual mind map or documented jpeg file of those Masters and their works of art. For each piece of art selected, discuss the artist content, their artistic style, mood, and in your opinion, what makes this piece of art worthy to be called a Masterpiece, and how they are all connected to each other. This course assumes that most participants are classroom teachers who have access to students. If you are not teaching in a classroom, please contact the instructor for course modifications. If you are a classroom teacher and start or need to complete this course during the summer, please try to apply your ideas when possible with youth from your neighborhood, at a local public library or parks department facility (they will often be glad to sponsor community-based learning) or with students in another teacher s summer classroom in session. Assignment #10: (Required for 400 and 500 Level) From any of your selected Masters of the Museum develop ten art lesson plans for your grade level and classroom using the SIOP form (free download) at: Send to instructor: supplitt@comcast.net. She has worked with students of all levels, including pre-school, elementary, middle school, high school and professional educators, since She is certified in Washington, Oregon and California in Pre/K-12 Special and Elementary Education and is highly qualified in the core areas of Art, Music, Reading, and Special Education as well as being a trained Intervention Specialist. Debora knows the importance of providing a creative environment where all students and teachers can thrive. Presently, she is working in her dream position as a full time middle school Art Teacher. Recently, she is part of a delegation with the National Art Educators Association (NAEA) to travel to Cuba to study art, education and culture. Debora provides classroom teachers with the tools and resources needed to integrate art into the daily curriculum and is always busy developing new, creative and fun workshops for teachers.
