10 From: Mohler, Geri; Consultant, Program Evaluation and Research Commission on Teacher Credentialing Sent: Friday, August 15, :41 PM Subject: Advisory Panel for Updating ECE Teacher Requirements Good news! This morning the Commission on Teacher Credentialing voted to convene an advisory panel that would be charged with updating the current ECE Teacher Preparation Requirements. This action was prompted by the State Budget bill approved in June with specific mention of CTC revising the Child Development Permit Matrix by 2016 and requiring that Transitional Kindergarten teachers have ECE content and pedagogy by The study session during the Commission meeting was about 1 ½ hours long with introductory presentations by CTC staff and a preliminary report by Dr. Lea Austin of the work being done by the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment The California Early Childhood Higher Education Inventory. About 10 members of the public (mostly ECE but not all) came to the table with additional comments and the Commission members also had questions and comments. In the end, it was a unanimous decision to convene the advisory panel (the nature of which will be determined soon) and the Commission requested that the Executive Director bring a proposal of the work for this panel back to the Commission at a subsequent meeting.
