2 OVERVIEW Since its inception in 1990, KBU International College has an excellent track record in producing employable graduates and entrepreneurs. In recognition of our excellence in providing tertiary education, the Ministry of Higher Education elevated KBU to FIRST CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. First City UC will continue KBU s proud tradition of providing the best learning experience for its students. The courses offered will continue to be industry relevant. These will be the springboard for our graduates to be successful in their chosen careers. Campus expansion The new phase of the Campus, which is next to the current premises, comprises a new academic block and en-suite air-conditioned student accommodation. A new IT Centre, library, food court and indoor sports facilities are some of the exciting facilities of this new phase. This new phase is targeted to be completed by November

3 FACULTY OF DESIGN & BUILT ENVIRONMENT The Faculty of Design & Built Environment aims to equip future designers with the competencies and skills needed to excel in the industry. The faculty conducts courses in Graphic Design, Interior Architecture & Design and Furniture & Product Design. Why Study Design Programmes at First City UC? 6 FOUNDATION IN ART AND DESIGN JPT/BPP (A9285) 9/18 Accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency This one-year programme provides a solid foundation in practical studio work, 2D & 3D designs and research. It develops student s skills in visual analysis, fundamental drawing, colour studies, research and critical writing. On completion of the programme, students will be able to: Understand drawing as a fundamental process for visual research and the development of visual communication. Demonstrate an ability to conceive and develop ideas in a wide range of media. Demonstrate a professionally oriented attitude to studio practice and ability to work as a team member. 8 DIPLOMA IN INTERACTIVE DESIGN JPT/BPP (A5423)2/19 Accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency This programme emphasises on creativity, exploration and experimentation of mind, media and materials. Students will also specialise in computer graphics, web-based applications, animation & other forms of interactive design. It provides students with a better understanding of a building s structure and its mechanics. Graduates of BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design will be able to: Have a theoretical and critical perspective of design within its cultural, social, political and economic context. Understand structural, technical and material needs and requirements for design. Design interior spaces in a rational and practical manner that contributes to the creation of a sustainable architecture. The course is designed to provide students with a professional and creative approach to all aspects of furniture and product design.
