It sits on the sand and has two floors, with the upper reserved for owners/guests and the lower occupied by the resident caretakers. The 2nd floor has cathedral ceilings. There is one large bedroom with a queen bed, one bathroom, and a spectacular, open shower/tub with views of the Caribbean Sea and Maya Mountains. The open areas include a full kitchen with complete cooking/serving products including blender, juicer, toaster, microwave, etc. The family room has a queen size sofa bed, 2-seat couch and occasional tables. There is an ipod music station. The seaside deck has a wet bar, hammock, dining table with chairs and chaise lounges. Above the deck is a large, rooftop patio with soaking tub and fabulous views. There is a two-person kayak and two bicycles. The home is on the Placencia Peninsula in the Stann Creek District of Belize, about 10 miles north of the Village of Placencia. There are many dining choices ranging from world class restaurants to local pubs. Attractions include Mayan ruins, cave tubing, zip lining, fishing, diving, snorkeling, hiking, waterfalls, and bird watching (Belize has more varieties than any other country in the world). 23 Box of Rain Programs Box of Rain is a year-round program designed to inspire and encourage Annapolis area youth, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to gain self-esteem and to develop life skills that lead to positive contributions to the community. It is free for all of our participants. A variety of activities and challenges are provided in order to develop a well-rounded Box of Rain kid who feels a sense of accomplishment when they complete any one or all of the three sessions each year. The name of the game is teamwork, risk-taking, and learning life and technical skills. Our programming is organized around three established and contained sessions: Summer Program, Boat Building by the Bay, Revolution Kids. In addition, Box of Rain sponsors events, such as a holiday party, and involves the participants in activities throughout the year that nurture social skills. Box of Rain builds in meals, water, transportation and supplies to all of its programs so that no one who wishes to participate will be left behind for any reason! Summer Program The Box of Rain summer program is the basic foundational program that has grown exponentially each year. To date, Box of Rain has mentored 500 children in the summer program since it was founded. In the summer, the Box of Rain kids gather each Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-3pm over the course of eight weeks. A variety of primary maritime experiences are provided including boating, swimming, and environmental experiences.

24 Boat Building by the Bay The Boat Building by the Bay program, established in 2009, concentrates on the practical application of academics, such as math and science, in the planning and construction of a boat from a kit. The program teaches invaluable life skills such as following directions, teamwork, learning and practicing appropriate workplace behaviors and the satisfaction that comes from a job well done. This program emphasizes maritime history, the Annapolis boatbuilding tradition, and the important role that tradesmen played in the development of their community. These boatbuilding experiences provide a solid foundation for vocational skill development as they mature as this lets them try out woodworking, construction, and painting in a safe environment with dedicated mentors. Revolution Kids Revolution Kids came to fruition the fall of 2010 through a grant provided by the Governor s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. The Revolution Kids program has been developed to teach bike repair skills to youth while they simultaneously earn community service hours and also earn a bike for themselves. Partnering with the City of Annapolis Police Department, Transportation Department, and Recreation & Parks Department, the Box of Rain program engages youth in a constructive activity that leads to skill development, positive social engagement, and community service. The program also reaches out to the community, as participants get involved in community bike drives, hosting an annual bike sale, and visiting local scout groups to teach bike safety and rules of the road. Currently the bike shop is housed within the Pip Moyer Recreation Center at Truxton Park. Classes meet each Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:30pm and on Saturdays from 10am-12pm. You are welcome to stop by the shop at any time to learn more about this exciting program.
