3 2. Approval of Minutes from January 9, 2015 Meeting Motion to approve the January 9th minutes made by: Kate Alder. Seconded by: Greg Newhouse. Voted on and approved unanimously. 3. Program Approvals New Options/Certificate of Achievement Cuyamaca College Mechatronics (Certificate of Achievement) First Reading Kate Adler presented the first reading for the program listed above and stated the program is a total of units and 3 of the units are allocated for work experience. Kate Alder stated Labor Market data has been collected and an Industry Advisory meeting has been held to review the program. Kate Alder stated programs within the region are similar. However, the Mechatronics program listed above is different due to the emphasis on additive rather than subtractive processes. Also, the other programs in the area focus on manufacturing of electronics rather than using electronics for manufacturing. Kate Alder clarified to WDC that the program is a repackaging item. Ann Durham inquired if the program could tie into the health sector such as producing medical supplies at which point, Kate Alder stated the program will focus on robotic design and provide an opportunity for students to explore their own interests. Margie Fritch stated the program emphasizes STEM and complements other programs within the region. Kate Alder also informed WDC about plan to create a pathway for articulation of the program from high school to community college. Kate Alder provided copies with further information including the proposal narrative summary, course outline and labor market gap analysis. Kate Alder notified WDC that the Mechatronics program will come back as an action item at the March meeting. 4. CCCCO Update Perkins FY 15/16 Update For the past 10 years, no significant funding changes have occurred; therefore there are no funding changes expected for FY 15/16, since the funding is being reauthorized. Brustein & Manasevit training on New Regulations Governing the Perkins CTE Program CCCCO WEDD has been discussing bringing this training to CCCCO. Margie Fritch inquired requested that Carol Jong to send information to WDC, and whether attendees (from the field, external to CCCCO) will be able to attend. Carol Jong will forward information as received. RFA Renewals (SN, DSN, RCC) These grant renewals have an anticipated release of February 2015 and noted it will not be a new application, but rather a renewal. DSN FY 14/15 grants Grantees (DSNs) will be receiving a $100K augmentation (for SB1070) AND receive a time extension (new grant end date of 12/31/15). Revised facesheets will be sent to the CCDs mid-february As usual, four copies of: (1) Revised facesheet (with original signatures); and (2) Revised workplan; and (3) Application Budget; and (4) Detailed Budget must be returned to CCCCO.
4 Current RFA s There are two current RFAs: (1) IDRC for softskills curriculum and coding (deadline submission Jan 30, 2015); and (2) Omnibus grant from SB858 funding (SB858 allocates $18 million for increasing CTE faculty, CTE programs and CTE courses). Future RFA s are still under discussion. EWD Report (for FY 13-14) to the Legislature DSN Success Stories should be sent to the appropriate Sector Navigators to assist with the compilation of this report, which is due to the Legislature Mar 1, The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act has assisted with the compilation of EDD-LMID information by Region, and includes employment opportunities with CID and TOP codes. The EDD- LMID report for the San Diego Region is at: The general webpage for EDD- LMID information is at: Launchboard Reporting for CCPT A new tab has been created to enable CCPT reporting within Launchboard. Go to: doingwhatmatters.cccco.edu > Cursor over top menu Launchboard > Dropdown menu and select CCPT for a preview of instructions. Webinar training will be presented in March ED/WEDPAC meetings canceled for February 18 and June CCCAOE Update Jonathan Kropp provided a report to WDC regarding the CCCAOE Spring Conference which is being held from Wednesday, March 25 to Friday, March 27 in San Francisco. Jonathan Kropp reminded WDC to book rooms and that registration for the conference is now available online. Program sessions for the CCCAOE Spring Conference are currently being selected and will be announced soon. Jonathan Kropp indicated a regional basket has been requested of all regions which will be raffled at the CCCAOE Spring Conference. WDC members volunteered cash contributions towards the purchase of our region s basket. 6. Other Mary Wylie informed the WDC about the upcoming BOG Task Force Town Hall Meeting at Illumina Corporation in San Diego on Wednesday, March 18 from 10 am to 12 noon. Mary Wylie reminded the WDC that the purpose of the BOG Task Force Town Hall Meeting is to examine the relationship with business and industry and the local economies and make recommendations for increasing the number of industry recognized credentials, certificates and degrees that contribute to a trained workforce. It was agreed for each WDC member to commit to inviting one advisory member to the BOG Task Force Town Hall Meeting. Margie Fritch provided information regarding the Regional Conversation for CTE Faculty which is being held at Palomar College on Saturday, February, 21. WDC members were encouraged to recruit faculty in attending the Regional Conversation. Mollie Smith, a member of the BOG Task Force, presented information regarding their first meeting and indicated that emerging themes from the regional meeting are data and outcomes, curriculum and instructors, structured career pathways and student support, baseline/funding and regional coordination.
