1 Articulation NewsBrief September October 2007 Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Lower Division Transfer Pattern (LDTP) Resolution ~ Adopted April 2007 SAN DI EGO ME SA C O L L EGE Articulation NewsBrief 4.0 ARTICULATION AND TRANSFER 4.01 S07 Resolution of Concerns in LDTP Beth Smith, Grossmont College Whereas, California community college faculty support the principles of efficient student transfer and timely attainment of the baccalaureate degree and many Articulation Officers and Transfer Center Directors are concerned that the CSU system s Lower Division Transfer Pattern (LDTP) project, as it is currently being implemented, is counterproductive to these goals; Whereas, Community colleges have no way of knowing exactly how the LDTP will be applied for, granted, or implemented at the CSU; Whereas, Despite verbal and written assurances that the LDTP program will not replace current major articulation with CSU campuses (LDTP Update newsletter, 2(1), Sep 26, 2006) it appears that individual CSU campuses are, in fact, replacing existing articulation with LDTP articulation, causing concern about the apparent lack of standardization, consistency, and knowledge of articulation policies and principles exhibited by CSU; and Whereas, It appears that submitting courses for LDTP consideration by community colleges may provide the impetus to review and/or remove existing campus-tocampus articulation, and further, inconsistencies exist between requirements for community college courses and courses taught at CSU to meet the same criteria in LDTP descriptors; Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges immediately increase its efforts to educate the CSU system about the specific flaws with the implementation of LDTP; and Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the CSU system to jointly resolve the flaws that have been identified to the mutual satisfaction of representatives from CCC and CSU System Offices, the Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges, articulation officers, and transfer professionals. Without your assistance and collaboration, we would not have excellent transfer students entering our university. In order to increase accessibility and enrollment of transfer students from California Community Colleges, we have received approval to implement a new Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) to begin Fall To summarize some highlights of our new TAG Program: Transfer Admission Guarantee for UC San Diego Fall 2009-Winter 2011 Provide TAG to all 109 California Community Colleges. Terms available: Fall (complete Spring), Winter (complete Summer). Full completion of IGETC (no partial IGETC). IGETC Certification Form received by 7/15/09 for Fall 2009, 9/15/09 for Winter For Fall 2009 admission, must earn a cumulative 3.0 minimum UC GPA by end of Fall term Must maintain 3.0 Cumulative UC GPA through the end of Spring term For Winter 2010 admission, must earn a cumulative 3.0 minimum UC GPA through the end of Summer Good standing last regular term. Both UC English & UC Math courses completed by end of Fall term prior to Fall Admission, by end of Summer term prior to Winter Admission. Must meet definition of California Community College Student applying for admission with junior class standing (60 semester or 90 quarter UC transferable units) Enroll at one or more CCCs for at least 2 regular terms (excludes summer sessions); Last college before UCSD admission is a CCC (excludes summer sessions); Complete at least 30 semester/45 quarter UC transferable units at a CCC. 5 New UCSD Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) continuation... There is no guarantee of college choice. Student must rank the colleges in order of preference. No guarantee of major (if designated impacted). Must meet lower-division screening criteria for majors if specified. New program to start Fall 2009 through Winter Review program quarterly. All information on TAG placed on ASSIST website. On Assist, select your community college and UCSD. Then select the drop down menu By Major It will be displayed as Transfer Admission Guarantee-Fall Information will also be listed on UCSD website: admissions.ucsd.edu. No contract Designate TAG on application and Y on IGETC Status. UC TAG application is accepted, not required. Eligible applicants: US Citizens, Permanent Residents (no International), AB540 Students, Former UC Students in good standing (not former enrolled UCSD students). 6 Welcome our new District Dean of Curriculum and Instruction SHELLY HESS, DISTRICT DEAN OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION After an extensive national search, the District is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Shelly Lynn Hess as the new District Dean of Curriculum and Instruction in the Office of Instructional Services, Planning and Technology. Ms. Hess was affiliated with Southwestern College, where she served as the Director of Center Operations for the Higher Education Center at National City with oversight responsibilities for the planning, coordination, development and management of military education programs. Until just recently, she also held the position of Instructional Services Director at Southwestern College and as part of her professional working portfolio of experience includes adjunct sociology instructor at various community colleges, educational research and planning assignments with the Grossmont- Cuyamaca Community College District, lead teacher at the Solana Beach School District in its Child Development Center, and adjunct faculty appointments at San Diego State University where she taught graduate education courses in the areas of program and curriculum design and the integration of innovative teaching and learning media and methods. Ms. Hess brings in-depth experience with CurricUnet, student transfer and articulation processes, degree audits, the planning and development of college catalogs and class schedules, the design and articulation of curriculum, integration of student learning outcomes, and the review of academic program effectiveness. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from San Diego State University, a Bachelors of Science in Sociology from the University of California, Riverside, and completed her general education requirements at Southwestern College. She is in the process of completing her Ed.D. in Educational Studies at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with specialization in educational leadership and higher education. Her dissertation research work is focused on the integration of multicultural education in California community colleges.
