1 The Board of School Directors of the Ephrata Area School District, Ephrata PA, met in regular session on Monday, October 17, 2011 in the District Office Board Room, 803 Oak Boulevard., Ephrata PA. Board Members Present: President, Timothy W. Stayer; Vice-President, Robert E. Miller; Secretary: Clare M. LeFevre; Treasurer: Kristee Reichard; Members: Judy Beiler, Marty Harmes, Ted Kachel, Kay Kurtz, Jenny Miller, and Neal Reichard. Board Member Absent: Glenn R. Stayer called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. MOMENT OF SILENT MEDITATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE President Stayer asked for a moment of silent meditation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. STUDENT PRESENTATION Dr. Enrica Gerhart provided a brief presentation about how Akron Elementary School special area teachers are supporting student achievement by utilizing art, music, and physical education to strengthen math and reading. Ashley Sollenberger, Akron Physical Education Teacher, and several 4 th grade students provided a demonstration of activities used to help stimulate learning. WELCOME OF VISITORS BY BOARD PRESIDENT Comments/Questions from Visitors President Stayer welcomed visitors to the meeting. He opened the meeting to questions or comments from visitors for any item on the agenda except personnel items that are never discussed at public meetings. None at this time. UPCOMING EVENTS The list of upcoming events was reviewed. EXECUTIVE SESSION President Stayer announced there would be an Executive Session for a personnel matter. The Board recessed at 7:26 PM and reconvened at 7:37 PM. 1

Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC) Resolution for the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center s Modernization Project for building renovations on their current facilities. Resolution for the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center to purchase a property located at 422 Beaver Valley Pike, Willow Street, PA to be used as a practical nursing instruction site. E. Middle Interactive Languages (MIL) Curriculum Agreement An agreement with Middlebury Interactive Languages LLC, North Provo, UT for the period October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012, and the cost will be $ for training and $ or $ per student based on the number of students. MIL will provide the District with products and services, including where applicable a non-exclusive, non-transferable license for access to the MIL online courses, curriculum, learning management system and/or related instructional tools and online services. Beiler A virtual town meeting will be held on November 1 about Making the Grade. REPORT OF PSBA REGION 9 LEGISLATIVE Glenn R. Martin The PSBA conference was held during the week of October 17. V. REPORT OF SUPERINTENDENT Dr. Gerald B. Rosati Governor Corbett outlined his education initiatives, including vouches and charter school oversight. Districts are awaiting information about state education funding. As a follow up to the Board request for Right-to-Know costs, an example was provided that cost the District more than $17,000 in legal fees and staff hours. SECTION 5 MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS & ADJOURNMENT I. COMMENTS/QUESTIONS FROM VISITORS A. Visitors may make comments or raise questions. NOTE: Personnel matters are never discussed at public meetings. B. Citizens desiring consideration of our action on a topic not included on the agenda may make a written request to the board president or superintendent at least five (5) days before the regular public board meeting. This is according to Policy 903 in the official policy manual of the school district. No comments at this time. 6
