You will receive your laptop at the mailing address listed in your Gormyd account within 14 days of your program enrollment. ne of the first things you should do after receiving your technology package is refer to your user manuals to inventory the items shipped with the package. 3 D 1: YR PP V R Y Y FWR PG 1 F 2 Your laptop comes loaded with: icrosoft ffice 2000 tandard nternet ervice Provider (P) software provided by Fiberlink ultimedia tools (such as Quickime and Flash) icrosoft utlook xpress hese tools are included to help you effectively learn online. his software has been preloaded on your computer to enable you to connect to the nternet, access the Gormyd portal, launch , and access your courses. You do not receive a stand-alone copy of the software. Back to op 3
4 D 1: YR PP V R Y Y Back to op FWR PG 2 F 2 ome ermy courses may require software packages that are considered to be nonstandard on the ermy laptop. n these cases, oldier-students are required to purchase the necessary software at their own expense and are eligible to receive special student prices. Review the individual course descriptions in the term schedule to determine which courses require additional software to be purchased. XP: BP 110-omputer sage and pplications his course presents an introduction to business and personal computer operations and usage. t includes a study of software applications for analyzing and solving business problems including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation graphics. icrosoft ffice Pro 2003 (including ccess) is required. tudents will be expected to provide upgraded software versions at their own expense. 4
5 D 1: YR PP P YR Y P Y Back to op t is important to become familiar with all components of your technology package. he primary resources for identifying these components are located in your user manuals. You should review these manuals to familiarize yourself with the different functions and features of your technology package. You may also refer to the pictorial guides that shipped with your technology package. When you are ready to set up your technology package, refer to the user manuals for instructions. etting up your laptop should include the following steps: nstall the laptop battery. onnect the / power adapter. onnect the telephone line. urn on the computer and set up the operating system. onfirm that the date and time are correctly set. 5

Do keep your system free from dust and dirt particles. Do take care of your system. heft, damage, and abuse are not covered under the warranty. onsider obtaining insurance coverage for your laptop. Do keep your virus protection up to date. 6
7 D 1: YR PP & P P R Back to op PP D PPR PG 2 F 2 aptop Don'ts: Don't drop the system. f you drop the system and the D screen breaks, you will have to pay for repairs. either the rmy, nor the prime contractor, nor the vendor will provide repairs for abused or broken D screens. You will have to pay for these repairs yourself. hey are not covered by the warranty. Don't spill any liquid, such as coffee, soda, or water on the keyboard. his is not covered by the warranty. f spillage occurs, you will have to pay for the repairs. Don't overload your system with miscellaneous games, pictures, programs, and music. hey consume too much memory space on your hard drive and may degrade system performance. 7
8 P R Back to op D 2: R P R ermy uses Fiberlink to provide nternet access. Fiberlink is an nternet ervice Provider (P) that can provide you with nternet connectivity virtually anywhere you go without incurring long distance charges. However, ermy does not pay for local telephone service or any per-minute local service charges that may apply in some overseas locations. oldier-students are responsible for these costs. For the procedures in these tutorials, you need the username, password, and address you received when you were enrolled in the ermy program or registered as a prospective oldierstudent. Have them in front of you as you perform these tasks. f you need assistance with your username, password, or address, please contact the ermy Helpdesk. o properly set up Fiberlink, you must work through all the topics listed under How to et p Your nternet ccess" before connecting to the nternet. 8

You will also need to choose a new phone number any time you want to log in from a different location. he Fiberlink phone book has many numbers in it; however, if you can't find a local number for your city, please contact the ermy Helpdesk. 15 D 2: R D Back to op D PH Fiberlink can provide you with nternet connectivity virtually anywhere you go. However, if you live on a military installation, you may have to dial a special number to get an "outside" line. f this is the case, you can use the Fiberlink Dialing Rules to include the number in your dialing sequence. n addition, if you have call waiting on your phone, you will need to disable it. f you do not and a call comes in while you are online, you could lose your connection. You can use the Fiberlink Dialing Rules to disable call waiting. 15

You may now open your nternet browser, nternet xplorer. 24 D 3: G DGG PRFRRD G Back to op You are asked to designate a preferred address for communications regarding admissions, course enrollment, and book shipments. t is critical that you check your preferred frequently in order to review communications from your college or university and ermy. When logging into the portal for the first time, you will be prompted to select your preferred address. You can also update or modify your address at any time by selecting the y Profile link in the left hand menu of your Gormyd Homepage and then selecting the ccount nformation link. 24
25 D 3: G P K XPR FR WDW XP G Back to op utlook xpress is the program you will use to receive, read, and send from your computer, if you selected your ermy address as your preferred account. f you selected your K address as your preferred account, you do not need to set up utlook xpress. You are also able to check your through the ermy homepage. o learn how to do this, view the portion of this training called, "end/receive mail through your Gormyd Homepage. Before you set up utlook xpress for Windows XP, you should set up your nternet access through Fiberlink. For more detailed information on how to do this, review the tutorial called "et p Your nternet ccess. fter you have set up utlook xpress, see the tutorial "end/receive mail through utlook xpress" for details about using the program. 25
