1 Job description Fundraising Database Analyst Main purpose of job Alzheimer s Society has a supporter database of approximately 1 million records, including archived and legacy information. To increase the efficiency of data usage, and understanding, FastStats, a statistical package is used to creating reporting and analysis as well as managing data selections. By utilising this statistical software, running out of the Progress CRM fundraising database, the Fundraising Database Analyst will provide clear, well-articulated analysis and reporting to teams across the fundraising directorate. Information and understanding from this analysis will help to inform business and customer journey strategies across not only fundraising business units but Alzheimer s Society as a whole. The post-holder will devise and implement regular reporting and segmentation templates to inform and assist management teams, and to increase voluntary income. Position in organisation Reports to the Fundraising Analysis and Reporting Manager Key operational role within the fundraising department Direct contribution to attainment of fundraising targets High level input to departmental strategies Liaises at all levels within the organisation Dimensions and limits of authority Responsible for progressing complex data analysis activities without reference to and within criteria agreed by the Fundraising Reporting and Analysis Manager. Works with external agencies and experts without reference to and within criteria agreed by the Fundraising Reporting and Analysis Manager. Works in conjunction with the IS team to maintain integrity of all fundraising databases. Duties and key responsibilities Database support Works closely with the other Fundraising Database Analyst, Fundraising Selections Analyst and Fundraising Teams to ensure that targeted data selections for fundraising marketing campaigns such as Direct Mail appeals to existing supporters, event recruitment s and regular giving conversion calling are effectively planned and briefed and are delivered on time Works with the Database Support Team to ensure that procedures are in place to check the quality of data being input into fundraising databases and provides regular feedback to line managers. To be able to fix data when errors occur.

2 Ensures that the use of the fundraising databases conform to the Data Protection Act. Database analysis Supports the development and application of innovative analytical tools and approaches such as Life Time Value to help Alzheimer s Society gain a robust understanding of supporters behaviour. Promotes and encourages the use of statistical reporting to enhance strategic decisionmaking. Translates analytical learning into meaningful segmentation models. Prepares and maintains profile data on Alzheimer s Society supporters in partnership with external marketing agencies. Works with fundraising managers to interpret and predict reporting requirements, developing a suite of standard reports which can be accessed at desktops. Manages and maintains, together with the Database Support and IT teams, the technical infrastructure for reporting and analysis; ensuring analytical tools remain fit for purpose. Strategy Assists fundraising managers with income forecasting by supplying insightful models for income, attrition and supporter churn. Supports the planning process by delivering on-going predictive models and working on Life Time Value modelling. Develops an understanding of actual outcomes versus planned performance using models and reports that can be communicated at all levels, both technical and nontechnical. Keeps up-to-date with trends across the sector in order to highlight areas in which Alzheimer s Society data provides meaningful insights into our supporters. Database Development Writes agreed selections and complex reports for staff as required, ensuring source database is updated and appropriately configured for on-going reporting processes. Develops and manages analytical packages to ensure information is current and clearly understood. Evaluates and suggests ways that systems could be improved Compiles and maintains a systems and procedures manual to support reporting tools. External Facing Represents Alzheimer s Society at external presentations and meetings as agreed. Considerable liaison with suppliers regarding data transactions.

3 To undertake any other duties or projects commensurate with the nature and grade of this post as required. This job may involve working outside normal office hours and at weekends to carry out database related tasks without effecting service to the users for which time-off in lieu will be given.

4 Person specification All of the following requirements are essential, unless marked with a * when they are desirable, and will be assessed from a combination of information provided from the application form and interview process. Education and qualifications Highly numerate and literate, with good standard of education to degree standard and preferably beyond, in a statistical or marketing discipline Experience of FastStats package or similar essential Knowledge & experience of the voluntary sector especially in regards to methods of fundraising essential Applied knowledge of database management principles Applied knowledge of project management principles Applied knowledge of total quality management principles Knowledge of Data protection regulation Skills and experience Extensive experience of large contact management databases and database selections Proven experience of applying key statistical learning, preferably in a fundraising environment Proven experience of managing and setting-up database analysis systems Experience of task management and work prioritisation Extensive experience of implementing and managing statistical analysis systems Experience of briefing and partnering external suppliers Enthusiasm for analytical approaches to problem-solving Strong team working and interpersonal skills Excellent time management and organisational skills Excellent written and presentation skills and the ability to communicate statistical findings in a non-technical manner Personal attributes / qualities Ambitious, innovative, self-motivated and target driven Able to show empathy for people with dementia and their carers, and with a strong belief in the aims of Alzheimer s Society Trustworthy, patient and a good relationship builder Belief in the value of team work and development
