I would like to see San Antonio LSA noticed for its benefits to members, employers, and the community, and to highlight the positive aspects of belonging to San Antonio LSA, which include networking, education, and camaraderie among legal support staff. 5 CHERYL A. WENZEL, PP, PLS President I have been a member of San Antonio LSA for 16 years and have 35 years experience in the legal field. I am currently working as a Practice Assistant for Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated. I have served as President, Vice President, Day in Court Chairman, Speaker Chairman, Reception and Attendance Chairman, and Nominations Committee Chairman. I have also served in the following capacities for Texas ALP: President, President-Elect, Treasurer, and Certification Chairman. I received my Professional Legal Secretary certification in September of 1998 and my Professional Paralegal certification in March Anne Hoover, PLS Vice President and Membership Chair Sharing is Caring Hey, San Antonio LSA members and prospective members. I m Anne Hoover, your Vice-President and Membership Chair. I ve been a member of the legal world a very, very long time, and a member of the San Antonio LSA (it will always be SALSA to me) for quite a few years. I want to serve you any way I can, and please don t hesitate to call on me and let me know how I can best do that for you. We ve all heard the expression, Sharing is Caring. Well, I want to challenge each of you to do that this year. Show how much you care about SALSA by sharing information about what a wonderful organization we have with people you know in the legal field, and encourage them to become a member. Word of mouth, or the passing of information from person to person by oral communication, is supposed to be the one of the best marketing strategies. Let s find out if that s true. WE NEED ADDITIONAL MEMBERS, especially ones who really want to take an active roll. So, let s all have a caring spirit (President Cheryl s theme for this year) and join together and help SALSA grow. 6 MELINDA K. HUCHIN Recording Secretary, Speaker Chair I came to San Antonio with the Air Force, and knew as soon as I arrived, I d be here forever. I retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Chief Master Sergeant, with combined active duty and reserve time of 23 years under my belt. I have a degree in Criminal Justice, and an Associates Degree in Legal Technology. I have worked as both a paralegal and a legal secretary, and have much respect for both positions and the dedication each requires. I quit working for awhile, to stay home with my kids. When I decided to started working again, I was blessed to be able to work part-time for Cox Smith, and somehow transitioned in to a full time position! My husband and I are supervisors in the Children s Ministry at our church, and our entire family actively serve. We have three boys: Joseph, 18; Matthew, 17; and Christian, 13. They are my life and my joy. AURORA (RORY) R. CAVAZOS, PLS, CLA, CPS Treasurer and Roster Chair I am SALSA's Treasurer and Roster Chairman for this fiscal year. I have been a SALSA member for an aggregate of 26 years; served as President; held all offices except Director and several chairmanships including Editor (twice). I have also been Legal Secretary of the Year (twice); I am the Gifts Manager and Assistant to General Counsel (Richard E. Goldsmith) at the San Antonio Area Foundation. I've been married for over 48 years to my high school sweetheart, Hector. We had four boys and now have five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. I enjoy TV, needlework, and crossword puzzles. The best friends I have made have been through my membership with our tri-level organization. JANET BROWN, PLS Director, The Summons Chair, Website Chair I have been a member of San Antonio LSA since 2002 and received my Professional Legal Secretary certification in 2005 and re-certified in I have held various positions including Co-President, Corresponding Secretary (2 times), Director (4 times), Web Site Chair (9 years), Editor of the Summons (11 years) and have helped on numerous committees. I won SALSA s Member of the Year in and Legal Secretary of the Year in 2007.

7 Cynde Crittell, PP, PLS Certification Chair My name is Cynde Crittell, PP, PLS and am employed by Frey, Navarro & Whorton, P.L.L.C. I have been a member of SALSA for many years and am a great believer in obtaining certification and maintaining certification by attending CLE opportunities. To that end, have volunteered to chair the SALSA/NALS certification study group this summer. I am personally mentoring two other employees at my firm and am encouraging them to obtain their certification through SALSA/NALS as well as encouraging veteran legal professionals to obtain certification in order to be recognized within their firm as certified legal professionals. I feel that certification is an important way to affirm our commitment to provide quality legal support in our respective specialized fields. Juanita Rodriguez Community Service Projects Chair, Vendor of the Month Chair, Ways and Means Chair My name is Juanita Rodriguez. I have a seven-year-old daughter, Joyce, who is my greatest motivation. I work at Frey, Navarro & Whorton, P.L.L.C. I'm currently working on my first certification, and plan to become a paralegal through SALSA s NALS study group and certification program. I'll be working on getting us some vendors to present their products/services at our meetings. I'm not sure how yet; however, I'm also looking into a way for us to use our gently used professional wear for fundraising and/or community service. I'm new to the legal field and am really excited to see what I can do to help SALSA out this year!

8 JUDITH SMITH, PLS Parliamentarian and Auditor I am honored to be serving as your Parliamentarian. I am probably the oldest active member of San Antonio LSA, having joined our tri-level association in I became active immediately, having said yes to doing things, although I did not even know what they were at the time!!! Well, that was the beginning of travel down a very long road. I handled many chairmanships on the local level and served as President of San Antonio LSA in I was among the first group to study for the PLS in San Antonio and achieved my PLS certification in By this time, I was also getting active on the state level, and eventually served as President of Texas ALP (then known as Texas Association of Legal Secretaries) in I have also served our national association, having become a Certified Leadership Trainer through NALS, worked on Leadership Training on the national level; became an instructor for the National Education Institute, and served as Bylaws Chairman/Parliamentarian for NALS. I achieved my CLA certification in I was honored by San Antonio LSA as Legal Secretary of the Year twice and was named Legal Professional of the Year for Texas ALP in 1995.
