PLAN is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years. PLAN can help all students those who are college-bound as well as those who are likely to enter the workforce directly after high school. The PLAN test can provide students, parents and guidance counselors with information that helps students identify: * Skills ls and knowledge required to succeed in college * Areas where extra help or additional courses are needed * Career areas that match the student s interests PLAN also provides an estimated ACT score, an indicator of readiness for college and connects students to more information about college and financial aid choices. 2 Silent Auction is March 24 th, 2012 however we are starting early and we need volunteers. This will be an opportunity to bring families, staff and community stakeholders together for food, fun and entertainment. Save the date and make plans to support this grand event. Information must be concise and to the point, include contact information, name, date and time of event, s, websites, etc. Seniors...Get your ad in the Fall Program before it's too late!!! The Ravens Booster club will be highlighting senior athletes this year to commemorate the first senior class to cross the stage at Rocky River High! During all home games, the booster club will be selling a fall program highlighting all fall sports. In addition, seniors will be spotlighted with individual photos... or "head shots." Family and friends will have an opportunity to purchase space and wish their seniors well! A 1/4 page ad is $25, a 1/2 page ad is $50 and a full page ad is $100. YES I CAN SAT Prep Review: You are invited to join the Education Commission at Our Lady of Consolation and Dr. Joseph Aicher, Jr., retired professor of North Carolina Central University, for an exciting workshop on how to achieve success while taking the S.A.T. This workshop will help prepare your child for the new S.A.T. which was introduced five years ago. There will be strong emphasis placed on writing skills so that students are prepared and confident in how to approach and conquer this new writing section of the exam. The cost of the workshop will include training materials, workbooks and a standardized mock test. Lunch and healthy snacks will be provided to ensure students are nourished and ready to learn. Students should bring a calculator to the workshop (T-83/T-84 Model). DATE & TIME: Saturday, February 25, :30am 4:30pm Sunday, February 26, 2012 Appointments with parents beginning at 12:30pm COST: $50.00 Per Student (Non-refundable) only 30 students will be allowed to register for this workshop. 3 AP EXAM FEE PAYMENT OPTIONS All Advanced Placement examination fees must be paid no later than Friday, February 17, Each individual exam costs $87 to order. All fees for AP tests may be paid through the online credit card payment system, check, or money order. NO CASH will be accepted. The online payment system may be accessed through the CMS website, on the Advanced Studies, Advanced Placement pages. There will be a small convenience fee for paying online. Fees can be paid at each student s high school by check or money order payable to RRHS. Payments are currently being accepted. Effective in the school year, students will only be granted an AP fee waiver if they apply and are accepted to the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program (formerly the free-and-reduced price lunch program). As a result of a change in the NC Department of Public Instruction policy, eligible students who do not apply for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program will not be granted an AP fee waiver. Students may apply for meal benefits at any time during the school year. An AP fee waiver form has been distributed to all RRHS AP students. Copies may be obtained through Ms. Hewitt in the main office. Each applicant s AP fee waiver form must be accompanied by a copy of the eligibility confirmation letter from Child Nutrition. To receive a duplicate copy of your student s eligibility confirmation letter, please contact CMS Child Nutrition Office at Fee waiver forms are due to RRHS on the same date payments are due, Friday, February 17 th Students who do not meet this deadline will not receive a test. 4 Senior Scholarships DECEMBER DEADLINES NC A&T-LEWIS AND ELIZABETH DOWDY SCHOLARS: This scholarship is linked NC A&T. The Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy scholarship is a unique scholarship initiative for incoming in-state and out-of-state freshman in all majors and academic disciplines based on academic performance. This prominent scholarship may vary based on total financial aid package awarded with scholarships and grants for eligible freshmen. This scholarship covers 100% of the tuition, required fees, room and board. - Current high school senior SAT (Math and Verbal) or 26 ACT weighted GPA or higher Apply online at or Applications can be found in the Guidance Department W.H. PLEMMONS LEADER FELLOWS: Associated with Appalachian State University is a four year in-depth experience aimed at creating successful leaders. The program attempts to identify entering freshmen who have demonstrated leadership and successful involvement in their high school or community. There are 15 ($1,000 each) scholarships given each year. - Current high school senior GPA SAT score (Math and Reading) Apply online at BOSTON UNIVERSITY, TRUSTEE SCHOLARSHIP: Associated with Boston University is a competition for a four-year, full-ride tuition scholarship. Trustee Scholars are typically in the top 10% of their class and are also very active leaders in their schools and communities. Students who are nominated, but not selected for a trustee scholarship, will be considered for other Boston University scholarships, grants and loans for which they are eligible. Apply online at
5 AIR FORCE RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING: This scholarship is offering up to a full amount of tuition for college GPA SAT - Top 40% in class - Leadership Experience CHARLOTTE ELKS LODGE MOST VALUABLE SCHOLARSHIP: The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2011 competition. -Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply. -Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks. -College students are not eligible to apply. -Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify. -Male and female students compete separately. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the fulltime enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university. Apply online at: Deadline: December 2 nd AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is awarded to seniors who are active in their community, who ve led a project that benefits others, or have overcome a personal challenge. 6 Citi-Group SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM for EMPLOYEES CHILDREN: This scholarship opportunity is open to high school seniors whose parent(s), stepparent(s), or legal guardian is an active, full-time U.S. employee of Citigroup, Inc. (or one of its subsidiaries), who have an annual compensation of less than $250,000 and have completed at least one year of service by December 4, Scholarships are awarded to students who plan to attend an accredited U.S. college, university, or vocational/technical school for undergraduate study. Scholarships will be granted based on SAT or ACT scores, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community activities, letters of recommendation and school performance. AMERICAN CULINARY FEDERATION: ACF Charlotte is pleased to offer Industry Partner Scholarship from SYSCO FOODSERVICES OF CHARLOTTE and US FOODSERVICE for this offering period.
