4 Benefits and Specifications ellington Ventilation s and Fans Benefits and Specifications Product Description All ellington ventilation motors are external rotor electronically commutated (ECM) products, with external electronic control. The motors are energy saving replacements of PSC induction motors used in domestic, commercial and industrial ventilation applications. Applications Heat recovery units Controlled home ventilation Fan filter units for clean rooms Commercial and industrial ventilation Energy Savings ellington ECM ventilation motors are up to two times more efficient than PSC induction motors and yield high direct energy savings. ellington DF motors efficiency rate: over 80% PSC induction motors efficiency rate: ~ 40% High energy savings mean very short payback periods. In most applications,ellington motor fans payback period is shorter than one year. ith high efficiency ratings, our motors and fans meet energy efficiency standards set by new environmental legislation. DF 102 Efficiency is determined by the electronic control. In induction motors instead, where the speed is determined by the frequency of the electric current, efficiency levels decline sharply whenever the motors are operating at less than full load. Additional Benefits Reliability Because of their high efficiency, ellington motors operating temperature is very low. Cool operation, long life ball bearings and electronic control safety features contribute to the motors longer design life and higher reliability. Save on maintenance and service. Quiet Operation Virtually noiseless commutation and no cogging motor design mean that ellington ECM motors eliminate the noise and vibration typical of induction motors and deliver extremely quiet ventilation. Materials Our motors are built using advanced engineering polymers and less copper and steel than other motors for a greener, more affordable electronically commutated (ECM) motor. ellington DD motors stator and bobbins are built using advanced engineering polymers Additional Control Functions Low cost microprocessor with smart software adds a lot of functionality to our ECM motors and fans, and adds value to your ventilation application. Unique ECM control functions include: ellinton s ECM motors maintain high efficiency levels across a wide speed range because motor speed Continuously variable speed control: achieved via PM (pulse width modulation) or 0-10V control signal to the motor. 2

5 Constant pressure, airflow, temperature: electronic control monitors parameters in real time and adjusts motor speed to maintain the pre-set duty points. CO 2 monitoring: motor speed is adjusted in real time to limit carbon dioxide levels in the ventilated space. Serial communication: connect to laptop to set functions with a user friendly interface. Compact The external rotor design of ellington ECM motors allows maximum integration of motor and impeller for a very compact motorized fan. Reduce the size of your unit with our energy and space efficient fans. Design Life 45,000 hrs motor design life at +20 C (68 F). Balancing All our motors and fans are dynamically balanced, which reduces the load on the bearings. Power Supply ellington s motors and fans can be operated directly from AC mains supply, or from DC. Electronic Control Safety Features The electronic controls of ellington s DD series motors are provided with the following safety features for longer motor life and improved reliability. Locked rotor/stall detection and over current protection switch the motor to standby mode and restart it after 40 mseconds if motor fails to start, if speed is forced outside the preset range or if motor current is twice the nominal value. This software detection protects the motor with a timed algorithm to limit maximum winding temperature. Thermal protection permanently stops the motor if overtemperature occurs. Software protects the motor from most external conditions that could trigger overtemperature. Direction of Rotation Direction of rotation can be either C SE (standard) or CC SE (upon request) as seen when facing the motors from Shaft End. Voltage Range 230V ± 10% for DD motor series. 230V-277V ± 10% for DF motor series.
