1 30 th April, 2015 Volume 3, No. 2: 1. SISB hosts the ISAA Swimming Gala SISB hosted the 3 rd Annual ISAA swim gala on Monday 27 th April. A total of 8 schools including ourselves arrived at the pool on Monday morning ready for a day full of exciting races. After a slightly delayed start due to traffic issues we got underway with the first races of the day the Individual medleys.

2 SISB swim squad had a competitor in each event and began the day well with wins in the first two races. Throughout the day there were some close fought races with medal places being decided by tenths of a second on some occasions.

3 A late thunderstorm meant that racing was suspended with approximately 15 races left to go. All coaches agreed to let the results stand as it was not safe to continue with lightening around the pool. As the rain fell the results were announced with SISB winning 3 of the 5 age categories.

4 The entire squad worked tirelessly throughout the day in their races and supporting each other. SISB achieved a total haul of 66 medals 25 Gold, 22 Silver and 19 Bronze. SISB were overall winners in the U9, U13 and U15 categories, and Runners up in the U11 and Open categories. A very well done to all our competitors on an excellent achievement, a result of all their hard work during the weeks and months of training. We look forward to next year and hope more of our students take the opportunity to join the swim squad! Well done! 2. Secondary Parent Teacher conference On the 24 th April secondary students received their reports and parents were able to meet their teachers at our parent teacher conferences for the secondary school. The event was well attended and parents had the opportunity to hear about how well their children were progressing and how they could support learning.

More on International Study, Travel and Business with Pleasure International Business Education Association (IBEA) is one of the hot choices for university options and continuing executive business education lately. The global collaboration among top executive business school is opening up opportunities even for the young university students nowadays. 6 a) Mannheim Business (Germany); b) Darla Moore School of Business (South Corolina, USA); c) Fundação Getulio Vargas (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and d) Essec Business School (Cergy, France or Singapore) Of course, these jointprograms are enjoyed by many universities nowadays: International Joint Degree of Canada-US-Australia, Oxbridge, Yale - NUS, Chulalongkorn- Queensland Uni, Thammasat - Nottingham etc. So many possibilities so many opportunities await.

7 4. English Corner Correct Form of English You like eating Sushi? Do you like eating Sushi? 5. Year 10 & 11 s field trip to Thailand s Parliament House On 28 April 2015, the Year 10 and 11 classes spent the day in Thailand s House of Parliament, studying the birth of the Thai government and its development over the past eighty years into the one we see today. The visit was a success with help from incredibly fluent guides who provided us with easy explanations.

8 The students first visited the museum where they learnt about the creation and systematic format of the Thai democratic government. They also had a chance to observe previous editions of the constitution on display. They watched a video outlining the members of the senate and its workings, then went to observe an actual debate in progress. The day as a whole was an enlightening experience which opened our eyes to the duties and hardships of the people that are leading our country. 6. ISAA Basketball (U 15 Boys) Tournament The students of the SISB Basketball team went to Niva International School on 23 rd April 2015 to participate in the ISAA Basketball Tournament for boys under 15 years old. It was a great experience for them to mingle and compete with players from 7 other schools. Our team played well and with their efforts, SISB ranked 6 th at the end of the tournament.

9 Well done students, and special thanks to Teacher Dee who coached the students prior to the meet and accompanied them to the event.

10 7. Year 9s Field Trip to Wat Phra Kaew, the Grand Palace and the Vimanmek Mansion Year 9 Love and 9 Joy students, led by Teacher Tuenta, Teacher Philippe and Teacher Kevin, embarked on a learning field trip to the Grand Palace, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangklaram, Wat Pho) and the Vimanmaek Mansion on 23rd April.

11 Guided tours were conducted for the students and teachers at each site. The officers from Wat Phra Kaew and Vimanmaek Mansion explained several important features of the two destinations. At Wat Pho we were blessed to have the honour to tour the monastery with the company of a member of the Sangha. Throughout the trip, we benefited from gaining invaluable knowledge in areas such as Buddhism, Thai tradition, history, geography, local medicine, architecture, and the lives of previous monarchs. It was a fruitful trip that both the teachers and the students enjoyed tremendously. We definitely look forward to the next field trip.

12 8. Fundraising: Nepal Quake We are all aware of the devastating earthquake that originated in Nepal and has caused wide spread damage and loss of life. Fundraisers are being organised throughout the SISB community by the NK Department, the Parent Support Group and The Primary & Secondary Department. Please show your support for the victims and donate what money you can. For Primary & Secondary, please give your donations to your child s classroom teacher between 3rd May - 7th May. Donations will be forwarded to a charity by the name of Shelterbox. Shelterbox is a legitimate charity, who already has teams on the ground.
