1 Graduate Programs in Education Summer 2010 Schedule of Classes

2 Listed in this booklet are the courses being offered in the Graduate Programs in Education Program during the Summer 2010 semester. The class list includes courses being offered on-campus, on-line and off-campus. Please check each course for start and end dates, as they will vary by course. It is important to note that due to contractual arrangements, only contracted teachers and administrators of the respective counties are eligible to register for the cohort classes. These are any classes ending in section 200 (ED ) for Anne Arundel County and section 400 (ED 626C.400) for Baltimore County. Additionally, only students in the Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Program (MAAPP) with BCPS are eligible to register for courses ending in section 500 (ED ). Online Registration The Graduate Programs in Education department is pleased to announce that beginning with the summer 2010 semester current returning students will now be able to register online through mygoucher ( The following website provides you with a tutorial on how to register online. Please note that the tutorial is an overview geared toward undergraduates. If you have any questions or problems, contact the GPE Office for assistance at Online registration for the Summer 2010 semester will begin on April 5, Online registration will remain open through June 18, Those not wishing to register online are still welcome to register in person, by mail or by fax. To download and print a registration form go to Only currently enrolled students (meaning those registered for a Spring 2010 semester course) are eligible to register online. New students or those who have not been in attendance during the spring 2010 semester are required to register in person, by mail or by fax. New students will not have the necessary network id or password to access mygoucher until they have been registered for a course and students who have been inactive in the system for a semester or more will need to have their network id and password reset once they are registered. To download and print a registration form go to With the introduction of online registration, you are no longer required to pay your tuition at the time of registration. Once your registration is processed and finalized you will receive a statement from the college indicating what your balance is and by when it must be paid. You will then be able to go online to mygoucher to pay your tuition by credit card or you can mail in a check. If your tuition is not paid by the due date, a hold will be placed on your record which will prevent you from registering for a future semester. The hold will be removed only after your balance is paid in full. Tuition for the academic year is $ per credit. Any prior balance must be paid in full before you can register for the summer semester. Please be advised that a $45 processing fee will be charged for dropping a course. If you drop a class prior to the start of the semester you will be entitled to a full-refund, minus the $45 processing fee. Once the semester has begun, the refund policy described in the Academic Catalog goes into effect. NOTE: REGISTRATIONS RECEIVED AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEMESTER WILL BE SUBJECT TO A LATE REGISTRATION FEE OF $10 PER CREDIT. 1

3 Advising The directors and advisors of the M.Ed. and M.A.T. programs have posted office hours. New students in the M.A.T. Program should sign up for an advising session prior to the beginning of the first semester they are enrolled. New students in the M.Ed. Program should sign up for an advising session by the middle of the first semester they are enrolled. Additionally, all students should check in with their advisors in the middle of their program or as needed. To schedule an appointment, sign up with one of the staff members in Van Meter, Room 120 or call Technology Standards: Each student entering the Master of Education (M.Ed.), Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) or Professional Development Certificate Programs since the Fall 2003 semester is required to meet a set of technology standards including an electronic portfolio. Please see pages for complete details as changes have been made to the way students can complete the technology requirements. Internship for all M.Ed. Students: Beginning with students who entered in the Fall 2003 semester, a one credit internship has been added to the At-Risk, Middle School, and Urban and Diverse Learners specializations so that each M.Ed. specialization now requires 36 credits to complete the degree. Some specializations, including Athletic Leadership/Administration, Reading Instruction, and School Improvement Leadership, have always had an internship. This internship is being offered during the Summer 2010 semester under the course numbers ED 614, ED 624, and ED 634. Students should not take this course until they have completed at least 24 credits towards their degree and all 3 courses in their area of specialization. On-line course requirements Before signing up for one of the online courses we highly recommend that you review the Minimum Technology Requirements for Online Courses ( and the Blackboard Tutorials for Students ( These resources will assist you in determining if an online course is the right choice for you. All online course sessions are asynchronous with the exception that three sessions may be synchronous sessions between students and instructor. Times and dates will be arranged with the instructor and will accommodate the majority of the students needs. Online courses are not self-paced, and students must complete assigned work every week. During the summer semester, on-line courses run for 10 weeks in order to fit all course content into the shortened schedule. Therefore, the dates for Summer 2010 online courses are May 24-July 30. Parking on Campus: During the summer semester, parking permits are not required. Goucher College Bookstore: Books for Summer 2010 courses will be available for purchase through the Goucher College Bookstore. You can order your books in advance by visiting the Goucher Bookstore website: and then either pick them up from the bookstore or have them mailed to you for a small fee. You can also go directly to the bookstore to purchase your books. The bookstore will be open extended hours at the beginning of the semester. Check their website for the specific schedule. August 2010 Graduation: If you expect to graduate upon completion of the Summer 2010 semester please contact Wendy Tuttle ( or wtuttle@goucher.edu) to confirm that you are on the graduation list. Goucher College awards diplomas to M.Ed. and M.A.T. graduates three times per year, but holds only one commencement ceremony each August. The annual commencement ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in Kraushaar Auditorium.
