We focus on all aspects of public safety, from short courses through to degree qualifications. 5 About NCPS security training The Navitas College of Public Safety is a specialist provider of security courses from entry level at. Certificate I to university equivalent degrees. Since 1990, NCPS has been responsible for many. security training and system initiatives within Australia and abroad. We have also won the Australian Security Industry s Excellence in Training Award three times and regularly provide advice on security issues to the public and private sectors. NCPS teaching staff are selected based upon their current practical knowledge and recognition of professional expertise. For example, to work as a security guard (unarmed) you must complete a Certificate II course and yet for a security consultant/ adviser you must complete a Certificate IV course. Security professionals must also comply with strict regulatory requirements including standards, licensing and specific statutory functions. The modern security professional must be multi-skilled, highly trained, versatile and able to work in a diverse range of areas. The Australian security industry is identified as an important component of the Australian public safety strategy. Security personnel work in all areas of the workforce including aviation, maritime, border protection, and public or private protective services. Our course content has been developed based upon international research projects to ensure students are exposed to the most relevant, comprehensive and practical content available. 6 Security The Navitas College of Public Safety is the Industry s choice, supported by major employers and provides a unique range of training courses that meet the requirements for gaining security license. We are also the preferred training provider for many major employers. Certificate II in Security Operations combined unarmed guard and crowd control (CPP20207) Overview Nationally recognised qualification that satisfies training criteria for entry level security licensing as an unarmed security guard or crowd controller. The course is designed for all operational areas of security including static guarding, mobile patrols, retail, aviation, maritime, hotels, nightclubs, casinos, gaming venues and major events. Entry Requirements Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. Security licensing also requires a relatively clear criminal history where there is any doubt ring NCPS before enrolling or contact Victoria Police - Licensing Services.. Phone: licensingservices@police.vic.gov.au Course Duration and Content The course is conducted full time over 17 days with some minor home tasks. Content includes working effectively in the security industry, law, managing conflict, working in a team, using basic security equipment, communication strategies, first aid, report writing and giving evidence. This course combines theory and practical training with students participating in excursions and activities to reinforce classroom based learning. Baton and Handcuff Victorian legislation allows for security guards to carry batons and handcuffs whilst performing their duties if they have received proper training. This course is designed to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry and use effectively security batons and handcuffs. Entry Requirements Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. They must also have completed a Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20207) Course Duration and Content The course is delivered over 3 days direct delivery. Content includes legislation, use of force guidelines, baton technique, principles of control, and restraint and handcuff applications. Certificate III in Security Operations (CPP30407) Overview Nationally recognised qualification that satisfies training criteria for licensing of a Bodyguard. The course is designed for basic bodyguard and close personal protection operations. Entry Requirements Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English and must have completed Certificate II (CPP20207) in Security Operations. Course Duration and Content The course is 19 days direct delivery. Topics include Assignment Preparation, Working With Teams, Risk Assessment and Unarmed Control Techniques. The course combines theory and practical training with student participating in excursions and activities to reinforce classroom based learning. IMPORTANT - To obtain a security guard or crowd controller licence, you must complete the Certificate II in Security Operations course (CPP20207) To renew your crowd control licence (no such requirement for unarmed security guards), you must complete further training (Certificate III in Security Operations CPP30407) to renew your licence 4

7 Investigations The Navitas College of Public Safety offers a popular and practical Certificate III in Investigative Services. The course is designed to enhance the effectiveness of persons responsible for investigations in any workplace. This course is also a pre-licensing qualification for private investigators in most jurisdictions. Certificate III in Investigative Services (CPP30607) The aim of the course is to develop a student s proficiency in investigation methodologies including surveillance and factual investigation techniques, preparing documentation and giving evidence in court. Leadership, supervision and organisational skills are also developed. This course complies with the training requirements for licensing of (specific classes of) inquiry agents/ investigators agents in most jurisdictions. 8 Security and Risk Management The Navitas College of Public Safety provides two nationally recognised security and risk management courses. These courses focus on critical issues of security and risk management for a broad range of workplaces in both public and private sectors. The courses are aimed at minimising security risks thereby allowing you to contribute to a secure and more productive work environment. Certificate IV in Security and. Risk Management (CPP40707) The aim of this course is to develop a student s competence in risk management and risk assessment methodologies with a specific focus on security related risk. Subject matter includes asset identification, threat assessment, monitoring security operations and advising on security needs. Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management is the entry level training requirement for security industry business licensing. It is also a requirement in some jurisdictions for licensing or registration as a security consultant. 9 Diploma of Security & Risk Management (CPP50607) This course leads from the Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management. The aim of this course is to further develop a student s competence in risk management and risk assessment strategies. Subject matter includes asset identification, threat assessment, consequence analysis and risk management planning. The qualification also includes extensive understanding of staff management and business skills. These courses are aimed at maximising your workplace effectiveness by reducing various occupational health and safety risks thereby allowing you to contribute to a safer and more productive work environment. VIC Initial course for Health and Safety Representatives, Supervisors and Managers - delivered at Melbourne Campus. The Victorian legislation outlines a number of obligations on employers and employees to maintain workplaces that, so far as is reasonably practicable, eliminates risks to health and safety. Employers are also required to consult with employees and where relevant facilitate workplace Health and Safety Representatives undertaking a 5 day WorkSafe approved training program. The initial course for Health and Safety Representatives, Managers and Supervisors will enable you to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to be an effective Health and Safety Representative in your workplace. 11 QLD Course in functioning as a Workplace Health & Safety Representative Queensland legislation outlines a number of obligations on employers and employees to maintain workplaces that, so far as is reasonably practicable, eliminate risks to health and safety. Employers are also required to consult with employees and where relevant facilitate Workplace Health and Safety Officers undertaking a 7 day Workplace Health & Safety Advisor approved training program. This course is suitable for elected Workplace Health & Safety Representatives, Supervisors or Managers with responsibilities for health and safety or people seeking an entry level program into higher qualifications in occupational health and safety. Entry requirements Students should possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. The prerequisite for entry to the Refresher program is completion of a 7 day Course in functioning as a Workplace Health & Safety Representative. Course duration The course requires a minimum of 49 hours face-to-face delivery and is generally conducted 1 day per week over a 7 week period. Refresher programs are conducted over a 2 day face-to-face delivery. 12 Certificate III in Occupational Health and Safety (BSB30707) This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills required for a person working within any business environment. This is a nationally recognised qualification in Occupational Health and Safety. We also recommend completion of the Initial Course for Health and Safety Representatives, Supervisors and Managers or the Workcover OHS Consultation program. Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety (BSB41407) This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills required for a person working within any environment to minimise safety risks within their workplace. This course provides participants with specific competencies and knowledge required to adequately perform duties in the field of occupational health and safety. Contribute to the implementation of a systematic approach to managing OHS Contribute to the implementation of the OHS consultation process Identify hazards and assess OHS risks Contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk Contribute to the implementation of emergency procedures Assist with compliance of OHS and other relevant laws Monitor a safe workplace Write simple documents Establish effective workplace relationships This course is suited to safety representatives whom have been active for a number of years and safety professionals without formal qualifications. 14 First Aid The Navitas College of Public Safety provides a number of popular First Aid courses. These courses have been designed to develop a student s competence in providing Emergency First Aid, as well as in maintaining or restoring breathing in adults, children and infants. Course in First Aid. (Level 2/Senior First Aid). (HLTFA301B) The aim of this course is to develop a participant s competence in providing emergency first aid. This includes the ability to respond to first aid situations, casualty assessment, decision-making, referral and basic life support functions including rescue breathing and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The program also addresses issues related to patient management such as providing first aid for fractures and wounds. The course is presented in line with adult learning principles and involves two days face to face activity using Navitas College of Public Safety materials and support resources. Successful participants achieve a. Statement of Attainment for:. HLTFA301B Provide First Aid. This course is suitable for anyone that wants to gain formal qualifications in First Aid. Particularly, it is suited to people who are seeking employment where First Aid is a prerequisite of employment. Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. 12

15 Apply Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. (HLTCPR201A) The aim of this course is to develop a student s competence in maintaining or restoring breathing and circulation in an adult, child or infant. This includes the ability to respond in the first few minutes to a life-threatening situation, conducting casualty assessment and performing basic life support functions until medical assistance arrives. This course also applies to persons wishing to refresh their knowledge and maintain the currency of previously acquired first aid qualifications. Successful participants achieve a Statement of Attainment. This course is suitable for anyone that wants to gain formal qualifications in applying CPR. Particularly, it is suited to people who are seeking employment where CPR is a prerequisite of employment. 16 Emergency Management The Navitas College of Public Safety has developed an integrated Emergency Management training and online reporting strategy for organisations and its people that: Aligns with AS3745:2002 Emergency Control Organisation and Procedures for Buildings Structures and Workplaces and relevant legislation including OHS; Results in nationally recognised units under the Public Safety Training Package; Seeks to minimise the vicarious risks that potentially flow to business executives, boards and compliance committees under OHS legislation and common law; Introduces participants to the importance of integrated emergency and security risk management audits; and Through our MORP (Monthly Online Reporting Program) automates the reporting process to maximise the integrity of the emergency strategy and ensure data is freely available as required for the workplace. There are four common levels of emergency training provided by Navitas College of. Public Safety. Workplace emergency preparedness This course has been designed to teach students how to: Identify, monitor and report situations that could lead to a workplace emergency; Correct situations that could prevent workplace emergencies from being safely handled; Prepare for emergency situations and respond to warnings and advice; and Evacuate the work area. The course is presented in line with adult learning principles and involves completion of an interactive on-line CD resource and workbooks. This short course has been developed for any person in the workplace as an introduction to emergency strategies. The program pathways into warden training programs. Successful participants achieve a Statement of Attainment for: Identify and help prevent and report potential workplace emergency situations Understanding reporting and responding to emergencies Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. 18 Occupational Violence and Aggression Management Handling Occupational Violence and Aggression (21749VIC) The aim of this course is to develop the ability of persons to recognise the common causes of occupational violence and aggression and implement localised strategies when faced with situations involving the display of violence or aggression. Understanding anger and aggression Risk assessment Defusing and de-escalation strategies Legal considerations Communication skills Tactical options This program is generally aimed at persons involved in regular staff conflict or intervention. These may include reception staff, customer service personnel, information officers or other general public contact staff. Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. Coordinating Occupational Violence and Aggression (21750VIC) This course covers the knowledge and skills required to coordinate team responses to occupational violence and aggression in the workplace. Participants will have an understanding of strategies that apply to minimising inappropriate behaviours involving violence and aggression. The course applies equally to a small or large organisation. Understanding anger and aggression Risk assessment Defusing and de-escalation strategies Legal considerations Communication skills Team tactics Restraint and control Tactical options This program is generally aimed at persons in occupational settings with a greater potential for conflict such as healthcare workers, statutory law enforcement, compliance officers, workplace inspectors, security officers and similar roles. Staff may also have some involvement in occupational violence and workplace aggression policy and procedural development. Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English. Managing Incidents of Occupational Violence and Aggression (21751VIC) This course covers the knowledge and skills required to manage a system of work to minimise the risk of occupational violence and aggression. Content includes organising the workplace, working with individuals and teams and understanding management strategies to minimise risk of occupational violence and aggression. Students must possess reasonable literacy and numeracy skills with a sound grasp of spoken English.
