IT Services The purpse f IT Services is t create a digital campus in which students and staff can be as creative and prductive as pssible as they learn, teach, undertake research and run the rganisatin. Many f ur services are typical f the crprate wrld and ffer similar challenges: managed desktps and laptps, strage, , printing, web cntent management, data and vice netwrking, multimedia design and prductin, and the ERP business applicatins underpinning finance, HR/ payrll, marketing, facilities management and a range f cmmercial enterprises. Other services are specific t the University and create an interesting range f challenges fr the IT functin. Here the creatin, sharing, analysis and disseminatin f infrmatin are defining activities. We prvide them with a Virtual Learning Envirnment, High Perfrmance Cmputing services and a huge range f specialist sftware. Backgrund IT Services was established in January 2007 by the current Directr f IT by merging a range f previusly fragmented rganisatins. The emphasis was initially n the creatin f an effective, custmer fcussed rganisatin with an apprpriate gvernance framewrk, ITIL based service supprt disciplines and prject and prtfli management prcesses. The fcus then shifted t mdernising the IT infrastructure, widening the service prtfli t prvide cmprehensive supprt t all areas f University (particularly t underpin research activity) and implementing the standards and service management tls needed t deliver service t 23,000 students and 4,000 staff in a cst effective manner. With this infrastructure mdernisatin prgramme substantially cmplete IT Services is ready t mve t the next stage in its develpment. The gal nw is t be perceived by all as the institutin s trusted IT partner. We aim t help researchers d mre effective research and students derive mre value frm their University experience. We aim t play a leadership rle in business prcess transfrmatin. In these varius ways, we will create value fr the University rather than simply serve it. A key step in realising this gal has been t develp the first institutinal IT Strategy. This envisages IT Services scaling up its peratin s as t prvide fr the majrity f needs acrss all departments, even thse which have histrically emplyed their wn IT prfessinals (mainly within the cllege f Science and Engineering and the cllege f Medicine, Bilgical Sciences and Psychlgy). Develpment and Integratin Services The Develpment and Integratin Services team reprts t the Deputy Directr IT, Systems Design and Develpment. It is respnsible fr sftware develpment, quality standards and data integratin systems. It sets testing strategy and standards, and advises ther teams n hw t undertake testing effectively. IT similarly defines cding standards and methdlgies. It runs the data integratin technlgy platfrm based n SAP PI and has a particularly imprtant rle in designing and implementing the data integratin interfaces between majr applicatin systems. It is the centre f expertise fr these areas and respnsible fr apprpriate skills and capability develpment within the IT Operatins team. It spts pprtunities t apply new features and technlgies in new ways that will supprt the team s purpse and highlights these t the Partnering team. Yur Rle Yu will reprt t the Manager, Develpment and Integratin Services. Yu will be an experienced database develper with a detailed knwledge f relatinal and multidimensinal database techniques (pssibly having utilised frmal methds such as Kimble). Yur experience f large scale systems such as SAP and SITS makes yu the Centre f Excellence fr all data and infrmatin held within IT Services Slutins. Yu are as cmfrtable translating business infrmatin needs frm nn-technical clleagues as yu are supprting the needs f highly technical develpment teams. Yur knwledge and experience develping and perfrmance tuning database slutins give yu credibility amngst yur DBA clleagues in applicatins services and peratins. Principal Accuntabilities T assist in the develpment and enhancement f IT Service database and infrmatin slutins: Liaise with clients within IT Services and the brader University t gather requirements. Mdify databases and prducts accrding t university needs. Help t create functinal requirements. Prvide technical assistance within the area f database develpment and data management. Undertake technical wrk packages invlved in develpment prjects thrugh design, develpment, integratin and testing. Prduce technical dcumentatin. Adhere t all develpment standards. Wrk clsely with the System Specialists in the Applicatin Services team t ensure develpments are t the crrect standard. Helping t design and plan MI/BI slutins using the Business Objects tlset. Create and deply reprts. Be the centre f excellence fr data and infrmatin held within the universities IT slutins. Own and ensure Data Dictinaries fr all IT Services Slutins are detailed and current. Wrk clsely with the System Specialists in Applicatin Services and Operatins t supprt sftware applicatins and interfaces. Undertaking preventative maintenance, perfrmance tuning, refactring and upgrade wrk, preparing change requests and undertaking impact analysis as necessary. Liaise with suppliers t reprt and manage defects. Maintain awareness f prduct develpment radmaps, knwn prblems, planned fixes and upgrade paths. Update IT service cntinuity plans as systems are changed. Test IT service cntinuity plans as necessary. Maintain and develp specialist skills in line with the needs f the service including the investigatin and evaluatin f new develpments and technlgies. Qualificatins, Knwledge and Experience Required Essential: Educated t degree level preferably in an IT related discipline r with equivalent additinal experience. Demnstrable experience wrking in a cmplex IT rganisatin with a sftware develpment backgrund. Experience f wrking n prjects thrugh the whle life cycle frm requirements analysis thrugh design, cding implementatin, testing, system implementatin and supprt. Experience develping and supprting database slutins using the fllwing technlgies.
