2 20 th St.Gallen ICF - The past and the future Looking back at the past twenty years, there can be no doubt that both European and Swiss competition law has undergone some considerable developments. The enactment of new statutory law, the large number of landmark cases and the ever increasing level of fines are just the «tip of the iceberg». However, despite the continuing progress and the tremendous change, there has been one constant: the St.Gallen International Competition Law Forum ICF. Since 1994, around 180 competition law experts gather in the Carolingian monastery town for two days each year in spring to discuss the recent developments in the field. The 20th anniversary of the ICF will strive to live up to the previous tradition and will feature, once more, a wide range of accomplished speakers. Vice-President of the EU Commission and Competition Commissioner Joaquín Almunia will lead the field. Moreover, no less than five presidents of national competition authorities (France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and United Kingdom) will share their knowledge and foster discussions between our distinguished guests and the fellow speakers. These will include, inter alia, the former U.S. FTC Chairman Bill Kovacic and more than twenty other renowned competition law professors, judges, senior officials and lawyers from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. While we can review the past accomplishments in the field, we cannot predict with certainty how competition law will develop within the next twenty years. However, we can provide a forum where the interested audience can get together and discuss the current «hot potatoes». Last but not least, the St.Gallen ICF would not be the same without its community aspect: the conference will not only serve sophisticated food for thought, but will also host a delightful evening event with fine cuisine and, of course, excellent wines. The participation fee is payable within ten days upon confirmation of registration, but can be refunded in full if a written cancellation is received until up to three weeks before the conference date (at the latest by March 14 th 2013). For cancellations received after this date, no refund can be made. Early registration is recommended since the number of participants is limited. Companies sending several participants can enjoy a reduction of ten percent of the participation fees provided that all the participantas are clearly mentioned on the registration form.
