3 Level 2 Intrductin The Level 2 ski instructr certificatin is fr any skier that has passed the Level 1 certificatin. The prgram imprves situatinal teaching skills, understanding f the CSIA technique and methdlgy, and the rle f ski teaching within the ski industry. It cmbines practical ski teaching methds, technical understanding and develpment, and imprvement f guest service skills. Candidates will receive caching n their skiing, teaching and peple skills with the gal f reaching the Level 2 standard. They will als receive suggestins and strategies fr lng-term develpment. The successful candidate is certified t teach skiers up t intermediate parallel skill level. Level 2 is a pre-requisite fr the Level 3 certificatin. Level 2 Certificatin Structure L2 Training mdule must be cmpleted befre the L2 Assessed Training mdule. Educatin credits can be accumulated at any time (befre, in-between r after the Training and Assessed Training curses), but L2 membership status will nt be updated until the minimum requirement is reached. Guest Service nline mdule is mandatry t fficially btain the certificatin. Retests are held ver the entire 2 days f the L2 Assessed Training prgram, bth fr members currently hlding a partial L2 certificatin under the ld structure and thse in need f a full retest. The prcess f certificatin is nt limited in time. Missing cmpnents can be cllected at any pint in time t cmplete the certificatin. 3

6 ASSESSMENT AND DEVELOPMENT (60 min) Assessment: Assessing skiers starts with knwing yur student. We use the Technical Reference as a tl t determine the desired verall imprvement. Skiing skills are the tls we use t develp specific mvements. Develpment: Appraches t develping skiers is based n yur initial assessment. Appraches will vary based n level f cnfidence, age and verall ability. Skier #1 Discuss skill develpment strategies t imprve the skier s stance and alignment. 9 Level 2 Perfrmance Criteria/ Evaluatin During the L2 Assessed Training Mdule, candidates are evaluated n their skiing and teaching skills, The evaluatin is cnducted n an n-ging basis as candidates cntinue t be trained in this 2 day mdule. Evaluatin relative t the L2 standard is based n the IACRCv mdel (see CSIA Manual, pgs ). Candidates must pass bth skiing and teaching aspects t be certified Level 2. MARKING SYSTEM Ski: T meet the standard, candidates have t be at the Cnslidatin stage f develpment in accrdance t the CSIA Level 2 Technical Perfrmance Criteria (p. 17). STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT ACQUISITION CONSOLIDATION REFINEMENT TECHNICAL ABILITY The skier crdinates and executes the key cmpnents f the mvement in the crrect rder; Executin is incnsistent and lacks precisin; Cnscius executin by skier; Rugh frm, lacks synchrnizatin, rhythm and flw. Crdinatin f mvements appears Cntrlled and rhythmical executin f task under stable cnditins Sme perfrmance elements are maintained, but are incnsistent when skier is under pressure, cnditins change r demands increase Perfrmance is cnsistent and precise in demanding cnditins Mvements are autmatic and dne subcnsciusly Only minr fine tuning may be necessary Critical reflectin and crrectin is pssible by skier Teaching: Meets expectatins (ME) r Needs imprvement (NI). RE-TEST ON SKIING OR TEACHING Candidates wh fail skiing r teaching can be re-tested at any time by attending any L2 Assessed Training Mdule. Candidates passing ne prtin will never have t be re-tested fr that prtin, but must still attend the 2 day mdule. The candidate must register in advance fr re-assessment thrugh the Natinal Office. 9

Demnstratins (maintaining technical perfrmance criteria abve): Mbility: Shw a centred stance and mbility in jints while pushing with ples; Balance laterally frm ft t ft while skating; Shw edge grip thrugh climbing r side stepping. Gliding: Chse terrain t demnstrate gliding withut braking; Adjust edge grip t shw side slipping/skidded arcs; Shw balanced sliding in the middle f the ski. Directin Change: Chse apprpriate turn shape fr student; Shw efficient turn linking; Maintain rhythm. Speed Management: Chse and demnstrate a snwplw stance when apprpriate; Shw the ability t stp in a parallel stance; Mdify turn shape relative t snw cnditins and steepness f terrain. 11

Here is what t expect: Level 3 standards being significantly mre demanding that f the Level 2, candidates are strngly encuraged t develp a persnal training plan. Start with the training curse and, based n yur curse cnductr s cmments, seek specific training based n their needs.
