3 Aalto University name celebrates diversity and innovativeness The name "Aalto University" is a tribute to a courageous, overarching renaissance man, Finnish architect, designer and academic Alvar Aalto He distinguished himself in not only the fields of technology and business, but also art. The name has been chosen to reflect the concept, spirit, values and goals of the new university.

(2 y.) programs in Helsinki (300+ students/y), first year in Finnish, then increasingly in English B.Sc. program in English in Mikkeli (85 students/y), in eastern Finland Separate external recruitment (some 150 students) to eleven Englishspeaking & one Finnish-speaking M.Sc. programs in Helsinki Business school programs (integrated with B.Sc. level, see above) 3 multidisciplinary programs: International Design Business Management, Strategy, Sustainable Creativity + CEMS, open for applications for all M.Sc. students! 350+ students/year on exchange at partner universities on five continents, almost equal number of foreign exchange students English-speaking doctoral program (20+ graduates per year) Part-time MBA in Finland, EMBA in Finland, Poland, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Iran..

10 Our expectations Take responsibility for your own learning process: be a full member of the BIZ learning community Attend classes (arrive on time!) and interact with your fellow students, faculty, guest lecturers; contribute to the collective learning process! You are a diverse bunch; remember to be considerate and generous toward each other diversity is an integrated part of the learning process. Provide us with feedback and suggestions how to further develop your program and BIZ more generally. Keep a critical, yet open mind.

To develop a good foundation for your subsequent studies/learning To be able to go to your business school of choice on exchange To make it on the Dean s List: top 3% who have graduated in 2 years To receive a good job as employers increasingly rely on study performance (time & grades) when making hiring decisions, or be accepted as a doctoral student

12 My Personal Suggestion: Keep a Learning Diary Tool for evaluating & stimulating your personal learning Purpose to keep record & reflect on what you have learnt Contains reflections on the outcomes & process of learning Knowledge Skills, e.g. how to make presentations, argue in class, write papers, work with fellow students Write down not only what you learnt, but also what you realized you don t know/are able to do = Questions, challenges, etc. Do not copy slides, etc. but rather Construct your own meaning Strive to write something Every Day Revisit your earlier notes at regular intervals
