2 The Executive MBA at the E. Philip Saunders College of Business Po-Ya Abel Chuang :: Class 16 Po-Ya Abel Chuang is a rocket scientist. Literally. He came to RIT via Taiwan and Penn State University, and his career path has involved heavy-duty graduate studies in rocket propulsion, combustion, and thermal management. Now he develops fuel cell technology that may someday replace the internal combustion engine. I realized that R&D is only a small piece of the corporate world. In order to drive real change I needed to strengthen my business acumen, my leadership and negotiation skills. The practical, cutting-edge knowledge I gained has provided the leverage I need to take on a larger leadership position within my organization. Classes at the Saunders EMBA Program meet all day Friday and Saturday, every other week, for 15 months. During this time you will be assigned to a team of three to five classmates. This team-based approach means you can tap into the know-how and experience of your classmates for support and diverse viewpoints. In leading R&D efforts for a major manufacturing company, he knows that creating new ways to research, test, and develop products can dramatically impact the bottom line. He also knows that what he learns at the Saunders College of Business on Friday or Saturday can be applied at work on Monday. There s no time for theories in my work environment. Not only do I benefit from this, but so does my employer. A Guiding Hand The Capstone Project is a powerful process that lets students analyze, diagnose and present solutions to actual companies. However, students are supported by a faculty mentor along the way, who helps guide, test hypotheses and push for superior results. An international business trip highlights your last quarter in the RIT Executive MBA Program. Prior to the trip, each student team is assigned a global company to research. During your trip you will meet with top management at those companies and discuss the challenges they face in a global and increasingly complex economy. You will also attend lectures, visit industrial facilities and meet with local business and government leaders. Past International Study Trips have included China and Eastern Europe. Real-world Applications: The Capstone Project Your knowledge and ability to apply the fundamentals of business will be tested as part of the Capstone Consulting Project. This project is a hallmark of the Saunders EMBA Program and truly benefits both students and their corporate clients. During the Capstone a team of students work as management consultants for a company to address real-world strategy and operational issues.
