3 MAY 17, 2015 ST. MARY GATE OF HEAVEN CHURCH PAGE 3 OUR PRAYER FOR UNITY Last Sunday, we heard the final words Jesus spoke before his ascension into heaven, words recorded by Saint Mark. Today we listen to a portion of what has become known as Jesus final discourse from John s Gospel. Once again, the Lord s words contain a commissioning of his disciples for ministry to the world. One important part of this discourse is Jesus prayer for unity: Keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one. As the Easter season comes to an end, a season that has seen us deepening our awareness of the Paschal Mystery, it is fitting that today we hear this prayer for unity among the Lord s followers. Let us celebrate the unity we have with other Christians and work together to heed the Lord s great commission to bring the Good News to our weary world. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. NUESTRA ORACIÓN POR LA UNIDAD El domingo pasado escuchamos las últimas palabras pronunciadas por Jesús antes de su ascensión a los cielos que nos recuenta san Marcos. Hoy escuchamos porciones de lo que se conoce como el último discurso de Jesús en el Evangelio de san Juan. Una vez más, las palabras del Señor contienen el encargo a los discípulos para que sean servidores del mundo. Parte importante del discurso es la oración de Jesús por la unidad: Padre santo, cuida en tu nombre a los que me has dado, para que sean uno, como nosotros. Con el fin del Tiempo de Pascua, un tiempo que nos ha llevado a profundizar nuestra comprensión del misterio de la Pascua, es apropiado que escuchemos hoy esta oración por la unidad que debe haber entre los seguidores del Señor. Joshua interviews Pulitzer Prize winning composer David Del Tredici and famous classical guitarist David Leisner talking about the former s new guitar CD on the Azica label called Facts of Life. Josh is a guitarist and conductor himself and is pursuing his doctorate at Catholic University in Washington DC. Saint Paul reminded the Corinthian Church that the Lord gave them their spiritual gifts for the purpose of helping each other, for serving each other in community and in so doing, serving Him. We become community at our regular Eucharistic celebrations. Being a Minister of the Word or Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is a wonderful way to serve each other. We invite men and women of at least high school age to consider joining one or both of these ministries.
