1 Hospitality Ministry Hospitality Coordinator Verena Krause phone: (857) Ministry Ministering is more than just performing your work; prayer is also an essential element. More than simply greeting people at the door, the Hospitality Ministers are bringing the body of Christ together. That should be foremost in our thoughts as we build community. As a minister, the qualities that should be embodied in Hospitality Ministers are: a. A love and understanding of the liturgy. b. A prayerful approach toward welcoming everyone and building community. c. A commitment and faithfulness to one s responsibilities. d. A willingness to serve the community. Duties and Responsibilities 1. By definition, the Hospitality Ministry entails the formation of a warm and welcoming environment. This primarily involves greeting everyone at the door, distributing hymnals and obtaining a count for the size of our gathering. The tasks for each Mass are briefly described on the checklists and handouts located in the sacristy. 2. Hospitality Ministers are requested to make themselves available to serve at Holy Day liturgies, especially during Holy Week when extra help is required in celebrating Mass at Bailey Hall. An requesting volunteers for these events will be sent to the Hospitality Ministers, typically two weeks prior to the date/event. 3. During school breaks and summer vacation, most people (Hospitality Ministers included) are understandably not on campus. Therefore, any Hospitality Ministers remaining in town will be asked to serve at Mass as the need arises. An requesting volunteers will be sent to Hospitality Ministers typically two weeks prior to the break. Special situations may arise during the course of the Mass that require someone to assist. If a chaplain needs assistance during Mass, they will typically call upon a Sacristan to help. In addition, if you notice such circumstances (i.e., a malfunctioning microphone or not enough Eucharistic bread), it is the Sacristan s responsibility to remedy the situation if possible. We are all called to be servant leaders for our community no matter out specific ministry. Commitment It is critical that the work of a Hospitality Minister is carried out at each Mass. If a Hospitality Minister doesn t show up, it can create problems for the Presider, chaplains, the other ministers, and ultimately the worshipping community. If you know in advance that you will not be able to minister at your scheduled Mass, please find a substitute from the list. If no substitute can be found, notify the Hospitality coordinator by Friday morning.

2 If, at the last minute, you are unable to make it or are going to be late, it is still requested that you notify the Hospitality coordinator and/or Liturgy Director. While this is a volunteer ministry, by volunteering you are stating that you will reliably perform the duties of a Hospitality Minister. The community depends on its Hospitality Ministers; it is expected they be serious in their commitment and dependable in their service. As such, if you begin missing Masses or are excessively late without notifying either the Hospitality or liturgical coordinator, you may be asked to re-evaluate your commitment to this ministry. Communication All messages will be sent through , so please check it weekly. This is the easiest and most efficient method for communicating with everyone. 3 Sacristan Ministry Sacristan Coordinator Matt Connolly phone: (607) Ministry Ministering is more than just performing your work; prayer is also an essential element. More than simply setting up the altar and sanctuary, the sacristans are creating an environment for worshipping the Lord, celebrating the Word of God and sharing in the Body of Christ. That should be foremost in our thoughts as we prepare the altar and sanctuary. As a minister, the qualities that should be embodied in Sacristans are: a. A love and understanding of the liturgy. b. A prayerful approach toward creating and preparing the environment for worship. c. A commitment and faithfulness to one s responsibilities. d. A willingness to serve the community. Duties and Responsibilities 1. By definition, the Ministry of Sacristan entails the care of the church s sacred vessels, vestments, articles, and building. This primarily involves the preparation and setup of the altar and chapel prior to each weekend Mass followed by cleanup and storage of all items after Mass. The tasks for each Mass are briefly described on the checklists and handouts located in the sacristy. 2. Sacristans are requested to make themselves available to serve at Holy Day liturgies, especially during Holy Week when extra help is required in moving Mass to Bailey Hall. An requesting volunteers for these events will be sent to the Sacristans, typically two weeks prior to the date/event. 3. More than simply distributing the Eucharist, the Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are distributing Christ s presence to our community on behalf of the priest. If you notice such circumstances (i.e., a malfunctioning microphone or not enough Eucharistic bread), check to see if anyone else is on their way to assist and, if appropriate, quietly and respectfully move to remedy the situation. We are all called to be servant leaders for our community no matter our specific ministry.
