3 Limited Warranty VCON Ltd. warrants the Product identified by the serial number indicated on the HARDWARE either accompanying the SOFTWARE or purchased separately will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of ONE (1) year from the date of receipt. This Limited Warranty shall not apply to any product that in the opinion of VCON Ltd. has not been installed or upgraded according to accompanying documentation from VCON Ltd. or been subject to misuse, misapplication, negligence or accident while in the hands of the purchaser. VCON Ltd. warrants that SOFTWARE will perform according to accompanying user documentation for a period of 90 (ninety) days from the date of receipt; replacement SOFTWARE will be warranted for 90 (ninety) days from the date of receipt. GRANT OF LICENSE VCON Ltd. grants the Purchaser a non-exclusive and nontransferable license to use the SOFTWARE product and to make one copy solely for backup or archival purposes, which may include user documentation provided via online or other electronic form. 4 Modifications The FCC requires the user to be notified that any changes or modifications made to this system that are not expressly approved by VCON Ltd. may void the user s authority to operate the equipment. Safety Notice When you use the MediaConnect 8000 system, observe the following safety guidelines: DANGER Do not operate the computer with any of its covers (including main cover, bezels, filler brackets, front-panel inserts, and so on) removed. Do not remove the cover of the computer or any other accessories. Refer all servicing only to the local VCON distributor or other VCON-certified technicians. To help avoid damaging the computer, make sure that the voltage selection switch on the power supply is set to match the AC power available at your location: 115 V/60 Hz in most of North and South America and some Far Eastern countries such as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan 230 V/50 Hz in most of Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Make sure the monitor and attached accessories (PTZ camera, VCR, document camera, and so on) are electrically rated to operate with the AC power available in your location. To help avoid possible damage to the system boards, wait 5 seconds after turning off the system before disconnecting a device from the computer. To help prevent electric shock, plug the computer s and accessories power cables into properly grounded power sources. These cables are equipped with three-prong plugs to help ensure proper grounding. Do not use adapter plugs or remove the grounding prong from a cable. If you must use an extension cable, use a three-wire cable with properly grounded plugs. Make sure that nothing rests on the computer system s cables and that the cables are not located where they can be stepped on or tripped over. Keep food and liquids away from the system or accessories. Keep the computer away from radiators and heat sources. Also, do not block cooling vents. Avoid placing loose papers underneath the computer, and do not place the computer in a closed-in wall unit or on a bed, sofa, or rug. iv VCON MediaConnect 8000 Getting Started Guide

5 For Users in Canada NOTICE: The Industry Canada Label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets telecommunications network protective, operational and safety requirements as prescribed in the appropriate Terminal equipment Technical Requirements document(s). The Department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user s satisfaction. Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations. Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment. Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas. CAUTION Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate. NOTICE: The REN for this device is X.X. The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) assigned to each terminal device provides an indication of the maximum number of terminals allowed to be connected to a telephone interface. The termination on an interface may consist of any combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the sum of the Ringer Equivalence Number of all the devices does not exceed 5. 7 About This Getting Started Guide This guide explains how to set up and to start using the VCON MediaConnect 8000 series videoconferencing system. For reasons of clarity, this guide refers to both MediaConnect 8000 and 8000Pro as MediaConnect In most cases, the descriptions and functions explained in this guide apply to both products. Otherwise, the particular product is specified. The chapters include detailed instructions for participating in videoconferences and getting the most out of the system s features. 11 1 WELCOME TO GROUP VIDEOCONFERENCING Welcome to VCON s MediaConnect 8000 series a fully featured, videoconference and collaboration rollabout system. The MediaConnect 8000 system is sophisticated, yet friendly. It gives you high video quality and powerful videoconferencing capabilities over an enterprise s Internet Protocol (IP) local-area (LAN), wide-area networks (WAN) and Integrated Subscriber Digital Networks (ISDN). 1.1 MediaConnect 8000 Models The MediaConnect 8000 series includes two product configurations: MediaConnect 8000 MediaConnect 8000Pro The products are available in the following models (ask your VCON distributor about availability in your region): Model 1 Model 3 LAN/IP (1.5 Mbps) and ISDN (384 Kbps/3 BRI) SVGA-based Workgroup Conferencing System. LAN/IP (1.5 Mbps) and ISDN (384 Kbps/3 BRI) complete Rollabout Workgroup Videoconferencing system, including a large SVGA monitor and a specially designed cart. Provides one ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) up to 128 Kbps and LAN connection up to 1.5 Mbps. This model is available only with the MediaConnect-8000 system configuration. Provides three ISDN BRI up to 384 Kbps, LAN connection up to 1.5 Mbps, and support for VCR playback and recording. MediaConnect 8000 models meet technical requirements prescribed in the H.323 and H.320 ITU-T standards for networking. H.323 is the worldwide accepted standard for transmitting video, audio and data across local-area and wide-area networks (LANs and WANs) using the Internet Protocol (IP). H.320 is the worldwide accepted standard for transmitting video, audio and data over WANs, including narrow-band Integrated Subscriber Digital Networks (ISDN). 12 Chapter 1 Welcome to Group Videoconferencing 1.2 Monitor Configurations MediaConnect 8000 systems provide video viewing in the following configurations: Single Monitor Dual Monitor Triple Monitor This configuration contains one large SVGA monitor, on which local and remote video, the MediaConnect application screen, and shared data applications are displayed. This configuration contains one large SVGA monitor and one TV monitor. The SVGA monitor displays the MediaConnect application and shared data applications. The TV monitor displays the local and remote video. This configuration contains one large SVGA monitor and two TV monitors. The SVGA monitor displays the MediaConnect application and shared data applications. One TV monitor displays the local video and the other TV monitor displays the remote video. 1.3 MediaConnect 8000 System Components All the components required for connecting and installing the MediaConnect 8000 system are supplied along with comprehensive documentation and fully featured software to make your videoconferences more productive. The standard MediaConnect 8000 components are: Computer unit with installed videoconferencing board Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) camera Infrared wireless keyboard and receiver Tabletop microphone SVGA monitor (only with MediaConnect 8000Pro) Cart (only with MediaConnect 8000Pro). 13 MediaConnect 8000 System Computer Chapter 1 Welcome to Group Videoconferencing The MediaConnect 8000 s standard computer unit contains the videoconferencing board, software for operating the videoconferencing system, and various connectors located on the rear panel for connecting the other components and accessories. The computer s operating system may be Microsoft Windows NT or The following figure illustrates the system computer. 14 Chapter 1 Welcome to Group Videoconferencing Pan/Tilt/Zoom Camera The Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) camera is controlled by the wireless keyboard through the system software. You can pan, tilt and zoom the camera in a wide range of directions during videoconferences. The camera can zoom in to its subject up to 16:1. Up to six pre-set positions can be set for instant recall through the MeetingPoint application. 15 Wireless Keyboard and Receiver Chapter 1 Welcome to Group Videoconferencing The infrared wireless keyboard provides remote control of the MediaConnect 8000 system. It works in conjunction with an infrared receiver, which must be located close to or on the SVGA monitor. 16 Chapter 1 Welcome to Group Videoconferencing Tabletop Microphone The supplied tabletop microphone is a high-performance omnidirectional audio source. It is highly sensitive, with a working range covering approximately 6 meters (20 feet) at an area greater than 270 from the front of the unit. The microphone transfers the full range of speaker audio. The microphone s cable is 6 meters (app. 20 feet). SVGA Monitor (only with MediaConnect 8000Pro) The MediaConnect 8000Pro includes a large SVGA monitor. The monitor provides high quality non-interlaced video at a resolution of up to 1024 x 768 pixels. Using high-quality horizontal and vertical frequencies, the monitor also provides options of automatic or manual degaussing. It is powered by / Vac (autoswitchable). Cart (only with MediaConnect 8000Pro) The MediaConnect 8000Pro includes an elegant mobile wooden cabinet that is specially designed to house the system components. The SVGA monitor sits on top of the cart, and two shelves are provided for the computer and other accessories. 17 Optional Accessories Supplied by VCON Chapter 1 Welcome to Group Videoconferencing The following optional accessories can be connected to the MediaConnect 8000: VoiceFinder During a group discussion, the VoiceFinder locates voices, then positions and focuses the camera on the person currently speaking. Its streamlined structure contains four high-quality microphones and advanced technology for intelligent tracking. Document camera or Second PTZ camera TV monitor(s) VCON VoiceFinder and Camera Unit Increases the video capabilities of the MediaConnect The second camera may typically be a document camera or another PTZ camera. For example, a document camera can show a placed document on the monitor during a videoconference session to both the local and remote users. 19 2 GETTING STARTED This chapter provides instructions for starting MediaConnect 8000, making a videoconference call, and setting up the system s configuration using the Configuration Wizard. 2.1 Starting MediaConnect 8000 CAUTION DO NOT attempt to turn the MediaConnect 8000 system ON (Power button) until all of its components and accessories are properly connected. For connection instructions, see Chapter 3, Connecting the MediaConnect To start up the MediaConnect 8000 system To turn the computer on, press the Power button on its front panel. Microsoft Windows will execute the startup sequence. Make sure all accessories (camera, SVGA Monitor, and if applicable, TV monitors) connected to the system are also switched on. MeetingPoint s Start procedure varies, depending on whether or not your system will be in a videoconferencing network managed by a VCON Media Xchange Manager (MXM). System Managed by MXM To start MeetingPoint 1. In the Windows Desktop, click the VCON MeetingPoint icon. If a MediaConnect 8000 and VCON Conference Bridge (VCB) are installed on the same computer, you must specify the IP address of the MediaConnect 8000 (see the following section). 20 Chapter 2 Getting Started Initial Login (Registration) to MXM 2. Enter MXM login information as follows (consult with your system administrator): MXM Login Name Password/ Verify Password Gatekeeper The name of your computer as listed in the MXM database and the MXM Administrator. Password required to log in. The first time you register, you must type it twice for verification. If you do not supply this password, the login request is rejected. The IP address of the MXM. If you do not know it, ask your system administrator. 3. Click Connect to complete the login process. If the MXM automatically registers your computer, the MeetingPoint application opens. If a message appears stating that the MeetingPoint startup cannot proceed until login is granted, contact your system administrator. After login is granted, click Connect to continue. If you are running MeetingPoint for the first time after installation (or logging into a different MXM), the Configuration Wizard setup program appears. This program asks you to enter the information required to run MeetingPoint from your specific location. For the complete standard setup procedure, see Setting Up the MeetingPoint Configuration on page 2-7. MeetingPoint s default properties are suitable for most video meeting requirements. 21 Chapter 2 Getting Started Conference Panel(MXM Support) and Local Video Window At this point, if the system s communication lines are connected, you may start a video meeting and receive incoming video meeting calls. MediaConnect 8000 and VCB On Same Computer If a MediaConnect 8000 and VCON Conference Bridge (VCB) are installed on the same computer, they each occupy their own IP address. In this case, when you run MeetingPoint, you must specify the IP address of the MediaConnect For normal operation, the MediaConnect 8000 must be assigned the computer s secondary IP address. 22 Chapter 2 Getting Started Stand-alone System To start MeetingPoint 1. In the Windows Desktop, click the VCON MeetingPoint icon. The Conference Panel appears, followed by the Local Video window. If you are running MeetingPoint for the first time after installation, the Configuration Wizard setup program appears. This program asks you to enter the information required to run MeetingPoint from your specific location. For the complete standard setup procedure, see Setting Up the MeetingPoint Configuration on page 2-7. MeetingPoint s default properties are suitable for most video meeting requirements. If you must change these settings, please consult with your system administrator or VCON distributor. Conference Panel - No MXM Support At this point, if the system s communication lines are connected, you may start a video meeting and receive incoming video meeting calls. 2.2 Starting Videoconferences Videoconferences may be carried out over your network connection (over IP) or over ISDN phone lines. 23 Chapter 2 Getting Started To dial through the LAN Dialer Dialing Out Over a LAN Connection 1. In the Address Book Explorer, click the Manual Dialers folder to display the available dialers. Click LAN Dialer. 2. In the box at the top of the right pane, type the IP address (or Alias or E.164 number if a Gatekeeper is connected to your LAN) you want to call. 3. Click Dial to start a videoconference. The Conference Control window shows the status of your call until the call is accepted and the remote participant appears in the Remote Video window (Single Monitor mode) or in a TV monitor (Dual/Triple Monitor) mode. If the call does not succeed, a large X appears over the picture of the telephone and the reason for the call failure appears. Click Cancel to close the Conference Control window, or Redial to start the call again. 4. Click the HangUp button to end the call. This button is available during a videoconference. 24 Chapter 2 Getting Started Making a Videoconference Call over ISDN Lines Use the ISDN Dialer to make a call over ISDN lines. To dial through the ISDN dialer Dialing Out Over an ISDN Line 1. In the Address Book Explorer, click the Manual Dialers folder to display the available dialers. Click ISDN Dialer. 2. In the box at the top of the right pane, type the ISDN number you want to call. 3. Click Dial to start a videoconference. The Outgoing Call window shows the status of your call until the call is accepted and the remote participant appears in the Video window. If the call does not succeed, a large X appears over the picture of the telephone and the reason for the call failure appears. Click Cancel to close the Outgoing Call window, or Redial to start the call again. 4. Click the HangUp button to end the call. 25 Chapter 2 Getting Started 2.3 Setting Up the MeetingPoint Configuration MeetingPoint is the MediaConnect 8000 s videoconferencing software application. It is pre-installed in the MediaConnect 8000 unit at a VCON facility prior to delivery. However, when you start MeetingPoint for the first time, you have to set up its configuration, according to your particular specifications, in the Configuration Wizard. The Configuration Wizard guides you through the required stages and requests the relevant information for normal operation of MeetingPoint. In addition, you may change any of these configuration details (as long as they are compatible with your equipment) whenever the system is on. The Properties command is available: In the Conference Panel s shortcut menu. Right-click to open it. In the Conference Panel button menus. 26 Chapter 2 Getting Started To set up the MeetingPoint configuration 1. In the Configuration Wizard s opening page, click Next to continue. The User Information dialog box appears. User Information Configuration 2. In the User information section, type your First Name, Last Name, Company name, and address. In the Dialing Information section, click the Country that you are in, type your area code, and type the appropriate digits for dialing an outside line (External), a Long Distance call, or an International call. If you need to dial a specific digit to receive an external line, you must type that digit before the digits required for a long distance or international call. ISDN Phone Numbers Configuration Select the number of ISDN phone lines you will be using Phone Numbers Click the number of ISDN lines the system uses. The number of available lines depends on the number of BRIs (Basic Rate Interface) on the videoconferencing card. Each BRI supports up to two phone lines of 64 kbps each (56 kbps in Restricted networks). In the Phone numbers boxes, type the ISDN numbers of each line. Do not include your own country s international code or your local area code. If your ISDN carrier supplied you two identical phone numbers for a BRI, type the number in the consecutive boxes (#1&#2, #3&#4, #5&#6). In all other cases, the phone numbers for each ISDN line may be different. Click Next to continue. If you selected switch type AT&T 5ESS Custom, National ISDN 1 or NT DMS100 Custom, the SPID Numbers dialog box appears. Otherwise, the LAN dialog box appears. Proceed directly to step 7. A SPID number describes the capabilities of each computer or phone on the ISDN lines. This information may be important to your local telephone company in defining the level of service to provide. If necessary, obtain this information from your ISDN carrier. SPID Numbers Configuration Enter SPID Numbers information as follows: Number of SPIDs SPID 1,2,3,4,5,6 Click the amount of SPID numbers that you have. Type the SPID numbers. If the SPID numbers for each line are identical, or you received only one SPID number from your ISDN carrier, type that number in the SPID 1 box. LAN Connection Configuration The LAN configuration includes: User Name User Number Gatekeeper Address The user s unique name on the connected network (H.323 alias). The user s unique logical number (E.164 string) as defined by your network s system administrator. The User Number must consist of digits only. The IP address of the H.323 Gatekeeper to which the computer may register. If your organization has installed a gatekeeper, we recommend that you enter its address. If you do not know its address, ask your system administrator. If you leave this box blank, the computer cannot register with a gatekeeper. 32 Chapter 2 Getting Started Allow Adaptive Bandwidth Adjustment Enable Lip Synchronization Mechanization Automatic Buffering Control Select this option to enable reduction of the alloted bandwidth if the network is congested. Select this option to enable adjustment of the video and the audio if they are out of sync with each other (see the MeetingPoint User Guide, Appendix B, Monitoring the Conference State ). Select this option to enable the system to automatically control the amount of buffering required to maintain the consistency of the video and audio transmission. For example, if video packets are delayed for 1 or 2 seconds, the system will automatically synchronize the transmission so that the delay does not disturb the visible video. Deselect this option only if the automatic buffering is not sufficient for example, if the quality of the video meeting is poor or there is a noticeable delay. Click Next to continue. The Online Directories dialog box appears. If this version does not support MXM, the Online Directories dialog box appears. Otherwise, the Pan/ Tilt/Zoom Camera appears. Online directories contain lists of registered Internet users who are currently connected to the Internet (online). These directories are usually located on Internet Location Servers (ILS). By default, MeetingPoint enables you to register in the same ILS as other VCON videoconferencing users, ils.vcon.co.il. Online Directories Dialog Box Enter Online Directories information as follows: Online Directories Online Directory Server Select Register with and Display Online Directories if you want to display an online directory in the MeetingPoint Address Book. As its standard, MediaConnect 8000 systems are installed with the camera unit connected to COM1. Pan/Tilt/Zoom Camera Configuration Dialog Box Enter information as follows: Camera Selection Camera Control In the Select your Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera type list, select the manufacturer and/or model of the PTZ camera. In the Select the communication port it is connected to list, select the name of the computer port to which the camera is connected. Select Allow the remote side to control camera settings to permit the remote party to control the position and video settings of your PTZ camera. If you chose On Board ISDN in step 3, the MSN dialog box appears. 10. If the connected ISDN network supports Multiple Subscriber Numbering (MSN), you can specify whether or not you want to use this feature. The MSN service provides more than one phone number per ISDN line. This enables you to connect several phones, faxes, modems, and/or other devices to their own individual phone numbers over a single ISDN line. MSN Configuration Enter MSN information as follows: MSN Support Select Yes to use MSN capabilities. When MeetingPoint opens after this setup process, you will be able to specify the exact MSN numbers for the computer in the MSN tab of the Conference Panel Configuration Properties dialog box. Select No if the connected ISDN network does not support this feature, or if you don t want to use it. Click Next to continue. The Sub-Addressing dialog box appears. The Sub-Addressing dialog box is applicable if the MediaConnect 8000 shares an ISDN BRI line with other equipment (such as other computers, fax machines, standard telephones, and so on). In such a case, an additional series of numbers and/or letters is added to the end of its phone number. Sub-Addressing Dialog Box If the computer has a sub-address, enter information as follows: Sub-Addressing Type the phone number followed by an character, and the series of numbers and/or letters making up the sub-address. If the connected ISDN network does not support this feature, or if you do not want to use it, leave this box blank. Click Next to continue. If necessary, drag the scroll bar down to see more information. Confirmation of Setup Information To change any information before exiting the Configuration Wizard, click Back to return to a specific dialog box and make the appropriate changes. When you are finished, click Next as many times as necessary to return to the Confirmation dialog box and check your settings again. 13. To save the setup and exit the Configuration Wizard, click Finish. The MeetingPoint application now starts. The local video appears on the SVGA monitor (in Single Monitor mode) or on a TV monitor (in Dual or Triple Monitor mode). To cancel the setup, click Cancel. Locate the box containing the Wireless Keyboard and take out the following two items: Infrared (IR) Receiver Wireless Keyboard 2. Feed the cables from the IR receiver through the small hole at the rear of the IR receiver cut-out on the rollabout cabinet. Push the receiver gently into position. If you do not have the rollabout cabinet, place the IR receiver on top of your SVGA monitor. 3. Connect the two cables to the mouse port and the KYBD mini-din PS/2 connector on the computer s rear panel. Place the Wireless Keyboard on your conference table, preferably at an operating distance of no more than 6 meters away from the keyboard receiver. If a Wireless Keyboard, which use a serial mouse control instead of PS/2 control, is supplied, the mouse control connection will be a 9-way D-type connector connected to the COM2 port on the rear of the MediaConnect 8000 computer unit. Connecting the SVGA Monitor CAUTION Make sure that the computer and the SVGA monitor are turned off. To connect the SVGA monitor to the MediaConnect 8000 system Connect the supplied SVGA cable between the VGA output on the rear of the MediaConnect 8000 computer and the VGA input on the rear of the supplied 29" SVGA Monitor (supplied only with MediaConnect 8000Pro). To connect a TV monitor to the MediaConnect 8000 system in Dual Monitor mode Depending on whether the TV monitor supports S-Video (mini-din connector) or Composite (RCA), connect the supplied TV cable between the applicable ports. If the TV monitor supports both of these types, we recommend that you use the S-Video connection because it provides higher quality video. If the TV monitor uses: S-Video Signalling Connect the TV cable between the TV s Video In connector and the videoconferencing card s MONITOR connector. Because of the videoconferencing card panel s configuration, one TV monitor must be connected to the S-Video connector (mini-din) and the other TV monitor must be connected to the Composite (RCA) connector. CAUTION Make sure that the computer and both TV monitors are turned off. To connect two TV monitors to the MediaConnect 8000 system in Triple Monitor mode 1. The computer provides a standard RJ-45 interface for 10-Base-T and 100-Base-T networks. To connect the MediaConnect 8000 to a power supply 1. Below the power socket on the rear panel of the unit, change the voltage setting to 115 Vac or 230 Vac if necessary. CAUTION 115/230 Volt Power Setting The factory default setting corresponds to the voltage of the electricity supply of your region. As a precaution, check that the setting is correct before starting MediaConnect Insert the power cable into the power socket on the rear panel. 3. Connection Problems When switched ON, the system does not have any power Solution 1. Verify that the power cable is correctly inserted in the power connector on the computer s rear panel and that it is firmly plugged into the power outlet. 2. 56 Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Keyboard Problems When you work with the keyboard, the system does not respond. Solution 1. Make sure that you are directing the keyboard directly at the receiver unit with no obstructions between them. 2. Check that the receiver is connected correctly and that the receiver LEDs are ON. 3. Optimal distance for using the keyboard is 6 meters (19.5 feet). Use of the keyboard over a long period of time without replacing its batteries will reduce this optimal distance. 4. Check that the batteries are inserted correctly in the keyboard. If necessary, replace the batteries. 5. 57 Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Camera Problems The camera does not respond to movement requests. The Far End (remote) camera does not respond. Solution 1. Make sure that you are directing the keyboard directly at the receiver unit with no obstructions between them. 2. Verify that the Camera unit is connected correctly to the computer. 3. Verify that the camera unit is set as unit number 1 (CAMERA NO. switch on rear of camera unit). 4. Verify that the camera control cable is connected between the VISCA IN connector on the camera and the COM1 serial port on the rear panel of the computer. 1. Verify that a controllable PTZ camera is connected to the remote user s computer. 2. Verify that the remote user allows you to establish control the remote camera. 3. Verify that remote camera control was enabled in your system (in the System Properties>Hardware>Camera dialog box, Auto Connect Remote PTZ Camera Control must be selected). 58 Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Video Problems The system is switched ON but the local Video Image is blank. The local Video Image is the VCON logo. The video image is unstable and coming through in blocks. Solution 1. Verify that the Camera is switched ON. 2. Verify that all connections from the computer to the Camera unit are correct. 3. In the Local Video window, select each camera in turn to verify selection of the correct video source 4. If the problem still remains, contact your local VCON distributor for further instructions. 1. If you have only the SVGA monitor, verify that you have chosen the Single Monitor Mode from the Video Window. 2. If you have a TV and an SVGA monitor, verify that you have chosen the Dual Monitor Mode, and that the TV is tuned into the correct channel. Verify that you dialed two (B-channel) numbers for each ISDN line. If you only dial one number for each line, only 64 kbps will be used instead of 128 kbps. 59 Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Audio Problems When connected in a videoconferencing session, you cannot hear any sounds from the remote user. Solution 1. Verify that the system s volume is not turned down or muted. 2. Verify that the monitor volume is not muted. 3. Verify that all audio connections from the computer to the SVGA monitor are correct. 4. Verify that the remote participant has not muted audio transmission from the remote side. 5. If you started the videoconference, then disconnect and redial to verify whether the problem remains. If the remote user started the videoconference, advise the remote user to disconnect and redial to verify whether the problem remains. 6. Connect MediaConnect 8000 in a loopback (dial the second ISDN channel of the first BRI pair) and verify that your audio is working. 7. 60 Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Audio Problems Audio from your system is not being received by the remote user. Audio reception is not clear. Solution 1. Verify that you have not turned the audio transmitted from your microphone off muting audio being transmitted from your system to the remote user. 2. Verify that in the system Properties>Hardware>Audio dialog box, the correct Audio Device and Microphone Origin are selected. 3. Verify that the connection from the microphone to the computer is correct. 4. Instruct the remote participant to examine the remote system as indicated in the previous section for received audio. 5. Connect your system in a loopback (dial the second ISDN channel of the first BRI pair) and verify your audio. 6. If the problem still remains, contact your local VCON distributor for further instructions. Verify that you dialed two (B-channel) numbers for each ISDN line. If you only dial one number for each line, only 64 kbps will be used instead of 128 kbps. 61 Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Connectivity Problems When trying to start or receive an ISDN call, the connection fails. When trying to start or receive a LAN call, the connection fails. When trying to start or receive a call through the Gatekeeper, the connection fails. Solution 1. Verify that the ISDN line(s) are connected and not loose. 2. In the system Properties>Telephony>Phone Numbers dialog box, check that the ISDN numbers entered match the connected line(s). 1. Verify that the LAN cable is connected and not loose. 2. Verify that the TCP/IP settings (Windows Control Panel>Network>Configuration tab) are correct. 1. Verify that the Gatekeeper IP Address is entered correctly in the Gatekeeper Address box of the system Properties >Communication>LAN dialog box. 2. CAUTION Make sure that the computer and the VCR are turned off. To connect a VCR to the videoconferencing card s panel for playback 1. Connect the VCR cable with the (usually yellow) jacks between the VIDEO OUT connector of the VCR and the VCR VID IN (yellow) connector of the videoconferencing card. 2. Connect the VCR cable with the (usually white) jacks between the AUDIO OUT connector of the VCR and the VCR AUD IN (white) connector of the videoconferencing card. 3. CAUTION Make sure that the computer and the camera are turned off. To connect a document camera to the videoconferencing card 1. Connect the camera cable with the yellow connector between the OUTPUT/VIDEO connector of the camera and the CAMERA (yellow) connector of the videoconferencing card. If you want higher quality viewing from your document camera, you can also connect it to the VID TOP connector (S-Video In) of the videoconferencing card. Use the S-Video cable that is supplied in the MediaConnect 8000 package. 2. Verify that the camera is connected to a power supply. For specific instructions on installing and operating the document camera, see its accompanying user s guide. 67 B UPGRADING TO A NEW VERSION OF MEETINGPOINT If you are upgrading from a previous version of MeetingPoint, follow the instructions in this appendix. You must first uninstall the previous version from the MediaConnect 8000 system before installing the new version. B.1 Uninstalling Previous MeetingPoint Versions If a previous version of MeetingPoint is currently installed on the computer, uninstall it completely. The Uninstall program deletes all previous MeetingPoint information and files. However, the program provides the options of saving setup information and the existing address book entries, which may shorten the process of setting up MeetingPoint. In addition, the Uninstall program provides the option of deleting or keeping Microsoft NetMeeting installed on the computer. We recommend that you delete the installed version because the MeetingPoint installation program installs the most recent compatible version of NetMeeting. To delete the previous MeetingPoint version 1. In the Windows desktop, click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears. 2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. The Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box appears. 3. Click VCON Meeting Point x.x and then click Add/Remove. The MeetingPoint Uninstall Wizard opens. 4. 68 Appendix B Upgrading to a New Version of MeetingPoint B.2 Installing MeetingPoint The MeetingPoint upgrade CD-ROM contains the Setup program for installing MeetingPoint. To install MeetingPoint on your computer 1. Close all open applications. 2. Insert the MeetingPoint CD-ROM into the computer s CD-ROM drive. After you close the drive door, the MeetingPoint Installation Utility appears (see the figures on the next page). If the Installation Utility window does not appear, click Start at the lower left corner of the Windows desktop. Click Run to open the Run dialog box. Locate and select the install application file on the CD-ROM drive and click Open. In the Run dialog box, click OK MeetingPoint Installation Utility Window 3. Click Install MeetingPoint to start the MeetingPoint installation process. A message asks if your application should include compatibility for VCON s Media Xchange Manager (MXM) system. 69 Appendix B Upgrading to a New Version of MeetingPoint 4. Click Yes or No, accordingly, to continue (if you are not sure, consult with your system administrator). If necessary, Setup installs Microsoft Direct- X drivers. It then installs Microsoft NetMeeting. The Welcome screen appears. 5. Click Next. The User Information dialog box appears. 6. Type your Name and Company name. The product s license number appears automatically in the Serial box. Click Next. The Software License Agreement appears. 7. Read the terms and conditions in the software license agreement carefully. To accept the terms and conditions in the license agreement, click Yes to continue the installation. The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears. To reject the terms, click No. The installation process ends. 8. The MeetingPoint program will be installed to the default folder. If you want to install MeetingPoint in a different folder, click Browse. In the Choose folder dialog box, select a different location and click OK. The Start Copying Files dialog box appears. 9. In the Start Copying Files dialog box, check and confirm your settings. To change any incorrect settings, click Back as many times as necessary to open the appropriate dialog box. Otherwise, click Next to continue. The installation program copies the MeetingPoint files to the destination folder on the hard disk. The progress of the installation is shown. At the end of the installation, the Setup Complete dialog box appears. 10. To start MeetingPoint for the first time, you must restart the computer. Select Yes if you want to restart the computer now or select No if you want to continue with another activity and restart the computer later.
