1 1 of 7 Alumni Newsletter August In This Issue Alumnae Achievements Alumni Association News Hall of Fame Irish at the Shore Investing in Irish Pride Announcements Reunion News 125 Years of Excellence Beginning in a few weeks, the Camden Catholic community will commence the quasquicentennial celebra on of our beloved CCHS during the 125th anniversary kickoff weekend September Keep an eye out in your mailbox for the 2012 issue of the CCHS Magazine which features dozens of stories on the accomplishments of fellow alumni, students, faculty, and staff during the past 125 years. This is a moment to savor and we will be celebra ng all year long. Be sure to stay updated on anniversary events and happenings at 125th Anniversary Kickoff Weekend Friday, September 21: Football Alumni Night Saturday, September 22: Figh ng Irish 5K Sunday, September 23: Anniversary Mass & Brunch CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE TICKETS Please join us for the commencement of this very special year. 2 2 of 7 the website to register and purchase ckets for anniversary events. Contact Kate Madden Bieg '98 with ques ons or to be an alumni volunteer: kbieg@camdencatholic.org or (856) ext. 51. Alumnae Achievements Around the Globe Several CCHS alumni joined her for the official swearing in ceremony in Washington D.C. Pictured are (from le ): Shane Rowan, Virginia Onofrio, Jackie (Bilodeau) Simmers, Chris Onofrio, Vice Admiral DeRenzi, Julia (Bilodeau) Purdy, and Mary (Bilodeau) Melia. The summer of 2012 has been truly memorable for two alumnae in par cular. In July graduate Nane e DeRenzi, class of 1979, received a pres gious Naval promo on to the office of vice admiral. She is now one of 40 vice admirals in the Navy and only the second female vice admiral. As judge advocate general, she is the senior uniformed a orney in the Navy, but even more impressive, is that Nane e is the highestranking female judge advocate of all the services. On the other end of the "pond" we've been able to cheer on 2008 graduate Michelle "Shelley" Vitesse who played on the USA Olympic Field Hockey Team in the London 2012 Olympics. Vitesse red shirted her senior year at the University of Virginia to train for the na onal team in California. In the USA Field Hockey win over Argen na Vi ese (number 9) had an assist to put the team ahead 2 1 (image shown). Alumni Association Names President Camden Catholic is proud to welcome Ray Curry '80 as the new president of the CCHS
3 3 of 7 Alumni Associa on. With a community of more than 15,000 graduates, two thirds of whom live in the region, the Alumni Associa on is responsible for keeping that community connected not only to CCHS, but also to one another. Mr. Curry has plans to do just that. "I think it's the alumni's responsibility to show the current students what life holds for them, what's available to them, and to get the message across that this community is the springboard for your life," Curry said. "And when you come back, we're always there. Once you're alumni of Camden Catholic, you're alumni for life and we are there for each other...with regards to the future, it's our responsibility to ensure the success of Camden Catholic for genera ons to come." Read more about Ray Curry and his plans for the future of the CCHS Alumni Associa on in the upcoming CCHS Magazine. We also wish to thank Dennis Archible who has been a loyal leader for the alumni during the past several years. Dennis will con nue to stay involved and promises us he'll keep the Irish at the Shore party going each summer. THANK YOU, DENNIS! If you are interested in becoming involved in the CCHS Alumni Associa on, contact Ray at alumni@camdencatholic.org. Hall of Fame: Accepting Nominations The Camden Catholic High School Hall of Fame was founded to promote pride in Camden Catholic High School and to honor alumni, faculty, staff, and friends who have made outstanding accomplishments in their communi es and their lives since they have been associated with the school. The Hall of Fame helps preserve and strengthen the school mo o since 1887, "Honor, Faith, and Loyalty". In addi on, these recogni ons are for the purpose of honoring and perpetua ng the individuals who have excelled and provide our students with examples of what to dream and aspire to be Emerald Hall of Fame inductees.
4 4 of 7 Do you know someone who deserves to be nominated? CCHS alumnus Jim Barnabei owns and operates the restaurant and bar with his family. CCHS Alumnus Jim Barnabei with alumni friends at Irish at the Shore Every decade of grads, from the 1950s to the 2000s, was represented. Thanks to all who came out with friends and family to toast to this annual summer tradi on. Investing in Irish Pride Thanks to all alumni who donated to the Annual Fund during the 2012 fiscal year. The 2013 fiscal year began on July 1, 2012 and the Annual Fund is an integral part of improving and evolving the CCHS student experience. You will soon be receiving the annual CCHS Magazine in which is included an Annual Fund dona on envelope. Take a moment to give back to the school that has given you so much. To give you an idea of the important difference alumni dona ons make, here are a few projects which our alumni have helped fund during the 2012 fiscal year: Updated technology, including the addi on of a Digital Arts Mac Lab allowing the students to work on a full suite of Adobe design products and film edi ng so ware with courses such as digital film produc on, digital imaging with Photoshop, digital photography, and computer Illustrator.
