Members. 3 Dear Friends, As we complete the third year of work on the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC), we recognize how much we have to be thankful for. Also, we appreciate the amazing nursing faculty in. This annual report is overflowing with accomplishments that can only be attributed to the tireless dedication of individuals throughout the state volunteering their time. The NMNEC cause of connecting all New Mexicans to highquality healthcare through creating a common nursing curriculum is becoming a fully articulated, resource-efficient education model. Leadership Council Members On the road toward this common nursing curriculum, the NMNEC committees have taken their charges with determination and rolled through this year with some amazing outcomes. The NMNEC faculty are to be commended for the commitment and dedication shown throughout the past year. We look forward to many more accomplishments together. NMNEC Vision: The Nursing Education Consortium is a collaborative partnership with a vision for nursing education that addresses the healthcare needs of New Mexicans by preparing a qualified, diverse, and professional nursing workforce. Members: Membership within NMNEC is made up of Full and Associate schools or organizations and continues to grow! Full members have committed to implementing the NMNEC statewide curriculum when able, among other requirements. All members are valuable contributors in committees, meetings, and other support capacities

NNMEC proposal blueprint approved (Fall 2011) Adoption of a 5-point implementation plan (see page 8) (Fall 2011) Received funding from the Board of Nursing for $128,624 (Fall 2011) Six statewide meetings Meeting locations: Hobbs (July 1, 2011), Albuquerque (September 30, 2011; January 20, 2011; June 10, 2012), Las Cruces (March 30, 2012), and Farmington (April 27, 2012) Average number of participants at each meeting: 47 Submitted two grant applications (Spring 2012) Board of Nursing for FY 2013 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation s Academic Progression in Nursing grant BSN Track students ADN Track students Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) Model For Participating Programs Undergraduate Education NMNEC Curriculum Liberal Arts & Science Courses Nursing Courses Baccalaureate Degree 64 +/- LA & S credits 64 +/- Nursing credits RN-BSN Education Associate Degree 35 +/- LA & S credits 35 +/- Nursing credits Graduate Education Fully articulated common curriculum BSN and ADN tracks Collaboration between university and community college programs with accessibility to BSN education Pipeline focused model to articulate education within the workforce Curriculum Blueprint See the complete, approved NMNEC Curriculum Blueprint on our website, under Curriculum. Exemplars Committee (Completed) The Exemplars Committee worked to identify exemplars for each of the NMNEC curricular concepts. These exemplars will be featured in the NMNEC Curriculum. The NMNEC concept/ exemplar list will be finalized after approval of the NMNEC curriculum. Chair: Mary Wright, University of Clinical and Simulation Committee (Continuing) The Clinical and Simulation Committee works closely with the Curriculum Development (Super Committee) to develop clinical courses and propose a simulation plan. Chair: Nancy Morton, University of Leadership Liaison: Pat McIntire, Western New Mexico University Program Evaluation Committee (Continuing) The Program Evaluation Committee developed, piloted, and implemented a program survey to collect information on program characteristics as well as application and admission data. The committee submitted a final annual report to the Leadership Committee. The Program Evaluation Committee has revised and modified this survey for a second annual survey to coordinate data collection with other interested groups. Additionally, it has developed and distributed a workforce CNO survey and gathered data for a grant proposal. The Program Evaluation Committee is collaborating with the Policy Action work group. Co-Chairs: Geoff Shuster, University of Anita Reinhardt, State University Leadership Liaison: Terry Keller, State University Conceptual Teaching & Learning Strategies Committee (Continuing) The Conceptual Teaching & Learning Strategies Committee has been working on completion of modified concept analysis of the NMNEC Curriculum Concepts. This committee has continued to explore conceptual teaching strategies and integrative teaching methods and will continue to examine the concept application in the in the clinical area and classroom. Members of this committee were involved with the Nurse Educators Conference in June that focused on conceptual teaching and learning. Leadership Liaison: Delores Thompson, New Mexico Junior College

The $140,000 Total FY 2012 Policy Action The Policy Action work group, led by the NMNEC Leadership Council, has been working with the Center for Education Policy Research at the University of and the NMNEC Program Evaluation Committee to collect and review statewide nursing data. The Policy Action work group has worked with members of the Higher Education Department to facilitate discussion and understanding of the implications for a statewide curriculum as well as collaboration between institutions. Curriculum Development (Super Committee) The Curriculum work group has been working to move the NMNEC curriculum from the blueprint proposal stage to a fully developed curriculum for faculty approval. The Curriculum work group and the Clinical and Simulation Committee expect to present a final NMNEC curriculum in September Leadership Committee identified the following trajectories: 1. Policy Action 2. Curriculum Development 3. Student Services 4. Practice Partner Engagement 5. Technology Collaborative Since January 2012, the five trajectories have developed into five work groups. Below is a summary of work group accomplishments thus far. Student Services No activity to date. Practice Partner Engagement The Regional Action Coalition has formally agreed to lead this initiative. The work group is willing to engage our practice partners in this new educational approach. Technology Collaborative A meeting of Chief Information Officers from NMNEC member schools was held in April 2012 to discuss technology needs for implementation of the NMNEC curriculum.
