I. Objectives The HabEat website is a part of the task T4.1: HabEat Communication carried out in the Workpackage 4 of the project. The objective of this task is to inform the general public about general information on the objectives and activities of the project and to store freely available dissemination material such as newsletters, public reports and deliverables and publications. The HabEat public website is a major dissemination tool intended to facilitate the spread of project s information to different stakeholder groups: baby food industry members, policy makers, food international associations and professional organisations. It is the core element of the external communication strategy of HabEat project. This deliverable provides a general presentation of the website and describes the format, the design, the technology used, the development process and the functionalities. II. General Information 1. Setup of the public website The HabEat public website has been prepared by INRA Transfert. The website is hosted and maintained by Basilic Communication, as part of an activity sub-contracted by INRA Transfert. The website has been designed according to EU project Websites Best Practice Guidelines (August 2009). The official registration of the domain name is: An outside subcontractor has been appointed to provide technical support in the hosting and development of the website. The company Basilic Communication has been chosen amongst three other companies on the basis of its services, its costs and its experience on the development of scientific websites. The company has acquired large experience on the development of websites for EC funded projects and it currently works for other FP6 and FP7 consortia. The design and technological specificities of the HabEat website justified the contracting of a specialised company to assist in the construction and the development of a website that satisfies the global communication strategy of the project. Prior to the development phase, a benchmark of similar websites projects has been made to gather helpful ideas to optimise the selection of the information to be highlighted, its presentation and its spatial organisation. 2. Development of the fully functional website The format, the design and the functionalities of the external web interface was identified and decided in February The development of the Beta version of the HabEat website began in March The Beta version was opened to the public in March All partners are requested to actively collaborate to update the information displayed in the website. Page 3 of 9
The first 12 months of the project will be used to test, to continue the development, and to run the fully functional website. The HabEat website is an internet site developed in free language PHP coupled to a database MySQL. Its development has been carried out ex-nihilo. It is composed of an internet part freely accessible to the Net surfers, and of a private part reserved to the administrators of the site. This principle of management of contents is also named CMS (Content System Management). The CMS is designed to make possible the administrator to have access to the private part. The website is composed of static public-accessible web pages, which provide information about general aspects of the consortium and of an intranet portal leading to the HabEat collaborative platform ( where only HabEat members have access. III. Detailed presentation of the website The Website is structured according to the following navigation points: Home Page: Welcome, synopsis page and last news. Project Overview: Concept, objectives and expected impact. Consortium: List of partners, staff and link to institutions websites. Management Structure: Role of each consortium body. Scientific Methodology and Workpackages: Activities description and their relationship. Deliverables and Publications: List of publications and deliverables related to and obtained within the project. Events: Events where HabEat is involved and press releases. Media Centre: HabEat newsletters, flyer, poster Contacts: Contact persons for the project. Extranet: Access to the collaborative platform The content of the website is based on both, non confidential information contained in the Description of Work (DoW - Annex I of the contract) and on information provided by each partner of the project. 1. Access to the website The public and stakeholders can access the HabEat website at the public URL: Direct links to this site will be created from the partner s organisation web sites. 2. General structure of the website Page 4 of 9
The front office represents the public part of the website. It is composed of a general home page, where the user can find the summary of the project and the latest news, and a left menu divided in several section home pages: Project overview, Consortium, Management structure, Scientific methodology and workpackages, Deliverables and publications, Events, Media centre, Contact and access to the HabEat collaborative platform. a. The welcome page On the welcome page the public could find the project summary, latest news and information and the table of content. A password-protected access to the HabEat collaborative platform is available on the welcome page. A login and a password have already been provided to each partner. To use this private platform each partner can refer to the deliverable D3 HabEat Collaborative Platform. The graphical representation below shows the general structure, design and spatial organization of the page. b. Presentation of sections: left menu Page 5 of 9
The section Project Overview presents the overall concept and expected impact of the project. The section Consortium presents the institutions as well as the Laboratories or Departments involved in the project. The public can find the team leader involved in the project and a direct access to their web site. Page 6 of 9
The section Management structure presents the role of each HabEat consortium body (Coordinator, Executive Committee, Stakeholder Advisory Board and Administrative Team). The section Scientific Methodology and Workpackages presents the description of each workpackage. The public can find in each workpackage page the WP objectives, the name of the WP leader. Example WP1: Page 7 of 9
The section Deliverables and Publications records all the publications and deliverables with a direct link to HabEat and in particular, the publications obtained within the project. For submission of a publication or a deliverable in connection with the project, the partners have to follow the policy of deliverable ( DC12576D20045DB1E/?OpenDocument) and publication ( b /?opendocument) as indicated in the HabEat collaborative platform. The webmaster will add the abstract of the publications and the public deliverables in the website. The section Events presents the events where HabEat is involved and press releases. The section Media Centre records the HabEat Newsletters, flyer and poster. The section Contact allows the public to get more information about the HabEat project. For further information, the public can contact either: IV. Conclusion The on-line HabEat public web site is a key element of the project s dissemination strategy. This site will: ensure the visibility of the project, facilitate the diffusion of the project's results, Page 8 of 9
promote their exploitation. The website provides a basic set of information about the project and will be regularly updated with scientific results, findings and achievements. Popularity of the site will be increased through active links (websites of HabEat partners and of relevant EU projects / institutions and within the stakeholder network of national relays) and by targeting appropriate keywords for each page of the HabEat website. The information contained on the project website is likely to be valuable even after the project has finished. Therefore, the consortium aims at ensuring that the website will continue to exist after the project funding has finished and that bookmarks and published URLs will continue to function. Page 9 of 9
