The GiraffPlus project has a number of communication needs and requirements which are particularly related to communication outside the consortium. 5 Introduction 1.1 Scope of the document An initial version of the GiraffPlus website has been designed and provided on the internet. It has been designed to provide answers to key questions which visitors (both technical and nontechnical) may have regarding the funded initiative and includes answers to: The project objectives The project deliverables The project consortium (and briefly their roles) The latest updates from the project The contact information of the coordinator and the scientific and technical manager Technologies such as CMS have been considered in the design of the webpage to facilitate dynamic content. As collaborations, exploitation and dissemination requirements emerge throughout the course of the project, other tools will be considered and supported on the website in various ways. For example, the project can now be followed on Twitter. Therefore, the project website (and other tools) are considered to be evolving in parallel with the project. As such the necessary server solution that has been adopted is expected to cope with this evaluation. 1.2 Deliverable structure This deliverable provides a concise overview of the initial website implemented for GiraffPlus website. It covers the physical infrastructure used and choice of domain name. The document then provides a short description of each of the static entries on the webpage. 6 2 The initial Web Site 2.1 The domain Name The domain name giraffplus.eu was selected for the project domain. The choice was motivated by the fact that acquiring a + as written in the application for Giraff+ is untraditional and creates a number of technical complications as a valid url format. Another motivation is that it is not clear how the project name Giraff+ should be pronounced and to be as explicit as possible it was decided (also for project branding) that the name GiraffPlus would be used when disseminating the project. The domain was registered by Örebro University, the coordinating partner, via a.eu accredited third party registrar. 2.2 Physical Infrastructure In order to host the website, a suitable hosting infrastructure was identified. It was determined that rather than one partner country hosting the site on their local infrastructure; an independent hosting provider was selected. The desired criteria for a suitable hosting provider included: latest support for CMS tools, e.g. php, the ability to run cron jobs, store database information, adequate storage and maintain some key addresses etc. A suitable web hosting service was selected, Surftown, and an initial 12 month contract was provisioned. This included the following features. The first version of the website was online M3 of the project. The website was structured so that the most dynamic content is visible at the top, this includes a slideshow whose images were updated with major results, and a news feed that shows Version /01/201309/01/2013 Page 6 of 11

7 the latest news information. The static content of the website was designed to reside under the menus and to answer some key questions that researchers, technology providers, academia, and stakeholders could be expected to ask. These questions included: What is GiraffPlus about in a nutshell and what are the project aims? Who is behind the project, both the consortium and funding agency? What are the results of the projects and specifically where is the project delivering? Who can be contacted for the project? These questions can be answered by looking at the site map: Figure 1 GiraffPlus first level site map 2.4 The Main Page The Main Page or Home Page briefly introduces the project and provides key facts about the project. Its aim is not to burden the reader with too much text, but still give adequate information about the project. The first image on the slideshow provides GiraffPlus motto We combine social interaction and long-term monitoring to help people live independently. Subsequent images are designed to give a warmfeeling that is not entirely centered on the technology but rather the results of the technology, or the environment in which the technology is situated. The main page also features the consortium logos and logos of the funding agency (FP7 and EU flag). The page gives information related to the call, that is, the challenge number and the name and duration of the project. The main page combines both static and dynamic content. The most dynamic content has been designed to be the most visible and includes a slideshow which showcases the results of the project, and a news banner which gives headlines of the latest news in the project. 8 2.4.1 Consortium/Team The consortium page contains a list of all official project partners. For each project partner, a contact person from the partner organization and a short description of their role in the project is given along with the organization s logo. If the project partner is a workpackage leader, the workpackage for which the partner is responsible is indicated GiraffPlus Project This Project page is the most descriptive on the website and contains the project information. 9 The final product (which is in reference to exploitation) Here there is a submenu option as well to go directly to the workpackages and see the list of deliverables. For each deliverable, a short public summary is provided and a link to the pdf. It is in this way the public deliverables of the project are made freely available Publications This contains a list of the publications by the consortium and where suitable, publications can be available by download Contact A short page about the contact information of the coordinator and the scientific and technical manager News This is a compiled news list archive. Each news item starts with the same formatted date YYYY- MM-DD and a heading. For the compiled list, a short pre-amble is leading to the full article which is accessed by clicking on it. In this way, we can record article views even when accessed via the archive. 3 Monitoring In order to facilitate monitoring of the webpage, a number of tools are used. Since Joomla is used as the project CMS, internal joomla functionalities are useful in tracking hit counts on the separate pages, including e.g. news items. In addition to fully understand user behavior, e.g. how much time is spent on the website, how they find the website, and from which countries and OS they are accessing the website, Google analytics is used. In addition there are a number of enhancements planned for the website as the website and project mature. The first is to include a link to GiraffPlus social media activities. These include in particular two of the main social media outlets: Facebook and Twitter. The second is to provide multilingual support for the most static content of thewebpage.as the testsites are implemented in the project a specific section of the webpage will be dedicated to sharing the experiences and updating the progress from the testsites.
