1 Transfer to UBC What is a transfer student? A student at a recognized college or university (see A student with a minimum of 24 transferable credits (see for course transferability) Students attending another university in BC or Canada should contact UBC to ensure courses are transferable

2 Transfer To UBC BC has a comprehensive transfer system Students can do 1-2 years at another post-secondary institution then transfer to UBC, often directly to year 2 or 3 College can be cheaper than university and students can save money living at home or in a smaller community College is excellent preparation for university Many high school level pre-requisite courses can be taken at college

3 Transfer to UBC Many programs at UBC do not require the Personal Profile or supplemental information for transfer students (exceptions: Commerce, Kinesiology, interview programs [eg. Pharmacy, Nursing, Social Work] Transfer students must meet the English Language Admission Standard (ELAS) but are not required to have English 12 for admission (note: Commerce, interview programs [eg. Pharmacy, Nursing, Social Work] require first year English for admission consideration) For most programs (exception: interview programs) transfer students are evaluated twice, once on interim grades and once on final grades

8 The BC Transfer System The BC Council on Admissions & Transfer was established in 1989 to coordinate the BC Transfer System BC has the most comprehensive transfer system in Canada Outside of BC, students are regularly required to repeat learning; costing time, effort, and money In BC, learners regularly receive transfer credit for prior learning, allowing earlier graduation and employment
