11 Associate of Science Degree 60 credit credential made up of a broad range of course offerings balanced with in-depth study in specific disciplines Upon completion, students may continue their studies at the upper level in order to complete a Bachelor of Science degree Download the Advising Form
12 Areas of Study The B. of Science allows students to acquire a deeper knowledge of an area or opt to individualize their program to cover a wider spectrum of courses. Students may choose coursework for a: Majors Program Majors Program with a Minor Double Majors Program Double Degree (ie: BSc/ BA) Honours Program General Science Degree Program

14 Basic Requirements for all BSc Degree Options 120 credits minimum (1 course is usually 3 credits) All course pre-requisites and co-requisites must be met Advancement into year three is 54 credits and includes: 6 to 9 credits of English 18 credits of Intro courses in Science, Math and Computing Science 6 credits of 2000 level Sciences 2.0 GPA required to graduate
15 What is a Majors Program? For students wanting to specialize in a single field of science Recommended for students intending to further their education Majors program require at least 48 upper level credits, including 30 to 39 upper level credits in the area of the major
16 Majors are offered in: Animal Biology Cellular Molecular and Microbial Biology Ecology and Environmental Biology Biology Chemical Biology Chemistry Environmental Chemistry Computing Science Mathematics Mathematical Sciences Physics
17 What is a Major with a Minor? Minors may be in disciplines within Sciences, Arts or Business The completion of a Major with a Minor requires completion of at least 30 credits in the area of Minor. At least 18 credits must be at the upper level. Plan early to include a Minor within the 120 credits to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree!
18 Minors are Offered in: Sciences Biology Chemistry Computing Science Mathematics and Statistics Physics Environment, Economy, and Sustainable Development Cross disciplinary minor combining courses from Arts, Science, Natural Resource Sciences, and Economics Arts A Minor is available for any Arts discipline for which sufficient upper level courses are available. 19 What is a Double Major? Requires two disciplines from Science A Double Major normally requires 10 semesters to complete Example of a Double Major Program: Biology and Chemistry (two Sciences)
20 Opportunities in Science to Earn Two Degrees within 5 Years Requires two disciplines, one from Science and the other from either Arts or Business A Double Degree normally requires 10 semesters to complete Examples of a Double Degree Program: Biology and Psychology Biology and English Biology and Business (one science/one arts) (one science/one arts) (one science/management)
21 What is an Honours Program? Available in Biology, Chemical Biology, Computing, and Mathematics 3.0 GPA required in all Biology, Chemical Biology, and Mathematics Allows students to carry out their own independent research project under faculty supervision Preparation towards applying into a Graduate Program credits that include courses towards the Major program and all Honours seminars. 22 General Science Degree Broader than a Majors program Students specialize at the upper level in two or more of the areas of biology, chemistry, mathematics, computing science, geology, and physics. Excellent preparation for other professional programs such as: education, law, medicine, etc

30 Careful Planning!! Most science courses are offered sequentially and begin in September which allows a student to complete the BSc in the minimum timeframe of 4 years. Check all course descriptions and pre-requisites. It is important to check the online Course Schedule to determine availability for each semester.
31 Seeking a Professional Degree. The courses required to make admission into a professional program (ie: Medicine) can be done along with the core requirements for a TRU Bachelor of Science Degree. Students must consult the institution of transfer to research their professional degree prior to deciding on classes. Look at the course descriptions; determine whether or not you meet the pre-requisite and the co-requisite Check online for the Schedule of Credit courses for specific offerings Decide which semester you d like to start. Write down the course in their scheduled semester on the course planning form Decide how many courses you want to take per semester. Prepare ahead! 37 Course Selection and Individual Plan New Students Make note of pre-requisites needed You may need to do a combination of 1 st Year and University Preparation! Think about which core and elective courses you will do first; pencil in these courses. Prepare a timetable for all semesters. Confirm courses are available by checking the online schedule for each semester.
