1 Top Ten Jobs Program Entry Prerequisites July 10, 2015 Statistics provided represent the percentage of students who entered grade 8 in 2007/2008 (class of 2013 students who may graduate with a dogwood within six years of entering grade 8) that have completed the necessary program admission requirements. Student achievement data was provided by the Analysis and Reporting Unit of the BC Ministry of Education. Program admission requirements vary widely across institutions. Where available, Industry Training Authority (ITA) recommendations were used. Where this was not possible, public post-secondary institution programs were used as samples. Given the variety of post-secondary and training pathways that students can follow, these requirements and the related statistics should be used to establish a general picture of how many secondary school students would be eligible for a particular program, rather than exact figures. Skills for Jobs High Priority LNG Jobs Welder ITA Recommendation Status on 48% 62% 82% Grade 10 or equivalent Grade 12 preferred Admission requirement for foundation welding programs vary by institution but most require English 10. Most also require at least one of the grade 10 math courses. In this case, the ITA recommendation has been used (grade 10 or equivalent). Aboriginal Non-Aboriginal According to the supply chain management association of Canada, bachelor's degree from a recognized Canadian university, college, or technical institute is required. There are other pathways that students could take, including starting undergraduate studies at a college. Crane Operators ITA Recommendation Status on Grade 12 or equivalent 46% 56% 79%

Requirements above are for the diploma program at TRU but admission requirements vary by institution Construction Managers Pathways to construction management vary widely: a university degree in civil engineering, college diploma in construction technology, or master's degree in project management may be required. Extensive experience in the construction industry may substitute for post-secondary education requirements. In many cases, managers would be expected to have certification in a related trade. As such, it is not possible to provide statistics Electricians ITA Recommendation Status on Principles of Mathematics 0.2% 0.4% 0.5% 11, Physics 11 and English 12 or Communications 12 Note: Program requirements above are for pre-apprenticeship training Restaurant and Food Service Managers Langara (Diploma) Status on High school graduation and 2% 7% 25% one of: English 12 (80%) English Literature 12 (80%) English 12 First Peoples (80%) This career does not have specific requirements. Possible qualifications include: a bachelor s degree in restaurant and institutional food service management and/or several years of experience in the food service industry, including supervisory and customer service experience A number of diploma programs exist with varying admissions requirements. 8 Management/Senior Role Requirements Chief Financial Officer Requirements Status on undergraduate studies has 12 and three (3) approved Post-Secondary education for a Chief Financial Officer would typically start with an undergraduate degree, followed by accounting designation and a number of years of experience in accounting. Admission requirements vary by institution but SFU and TRU admission requirements have been used as examples. There are other pathways that students could take, including starting undergraduate studies at a college. Human Resources Manager Requirements Status on undergraduate studies has

Chief Executive Officer Requirements Status on undergraduate studies has 12 and three (3) approved Pathways to a Chief Executive Officer position are varied, but would typically start with an undergraduate degree in business administration, or another area followed by several years of experience as a middle and senior manager. Admission requirements vary by institution but SFU and TRU admission requirements have been used as

Engineer Requirements Status on No specific GPA admission requirements are provided for engineering schools but as these are highly competitive programs, it can be expected that they will require at least the general admissions average, which for SFU, is has ranged from 80% to 90%, depending on the program. Admission average is calculated on English 12, English 12 First Peoples or Francais premiere langue 12 and three (3) approved grade 12 level courses. TRU Example (Engineering Transfer): program requirements that would significantly reduce the number of eligible students. A bachelor's degree in engineering is usually required, as is registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is usually required. Admission requirements vary by institution but SFU and TRU admission requirements have been used as examples. There are other pathways that students could take, including starting undergraduate studies at a college. Note: Due to lack of specific admissions requirements and data on individual courses, further analysis would be required to determine specific eligibility statistics. The actual percentages would be significantly lower than those provided above.
