Sammendrag Sammendrag (kort beskrivelse av prosjektet, maks 250 ord) Norwegian and Icelandic education systems have much in common, as have Charlottenlund Upper Secondary School and Akureyri Comprehensive College. However, we see that the schools solve their challenges in different ways. The combination of similarities and differences makes an interesting basis for creating a fruitful, long-term cooperation between the schools. In this project we wish to develop a link between education in design, art and hairdressing in Charlottenlund and Akureyri. Charlottenlund has the largest hairdressing education department in Mid Norway, but still it faces problems in meeting the need for apprentices to local business. Akureyri has a large department in design and textiles, well oriented towards local industry. The link between school and industry is weaker in this field in Norway. We wish to arrange school leader, teacher and student exchanges, where we focus on - Establish a long-term cooperation between departments - Increase quality of education by interchanging ideas and taking part in each others' lessons and lesson planning - Increasin creativity in education by focusing on local entreprenurship in small business - Make connections between local business and students from the two countries by short-term placements 3.4. 3 4.Prosjektbeskrivelse - Informasjon om prosjektet/samarbeidet 4.1.Mål Prosjektets mål Målsetninger til Nordplus Junior: Promoting cooperation between schools (including kindergarten/preschool) and working life Promoting the development of quality, creativity and innovation in education Strengthening and developing cooperation between schools (including kindergarten/preschool) Formål/hensikt In short, the goals are - to establish an arena for learning in workplaces and schools for design, handcraft and hairdressing students in Norway and Iceland - to interchange professional knowledge in design, handcraft and hairdressing Charlottenlund Upper Secondary School (CVS) and Akureyri Comprehensive College (VMA) both have approximately 1,200 students, covering both vocational and general studies. The two schools offers many of the same study lines. So far, our contact has revealed that we face many of the same challenges, but we have different solutions to many of them. The challenges from the communities are also somewhat different. The study lines in art, design and hairdressing is a typical example of this. CVS has a large number of hairdressing students. Still, the need for apprentices in local business is not covered. In Iceland, this is different. VMA has not many students, but all the same they meet problems in getting apprenticeships. By establishing a cooperation project we wish to establish short-term student exchanges, where Icelandic students work in local business in Trondheim. In art and textiles studies, VMA has a much larger number of students than CVS. Local textile industry and entrepreneurship is far stronger in Iceland than in Norway. We see therefore an opportunity for Norwegian students to visit VMA and local industry. Both teachers and department leaders will take part in exchanges to interchange professional ideas and knowledge, reflected by the schools' similarities and differences. Both VMA and CVS has as a part of their strategy to create international collaboration to improve the quality of their education. Sør-Trøndelay County Authority in Norway has developed a strategy as to improve cultural cooperation and to strengthen the relationship to business, also through international work. This project fits well into both schools and counties' strategies Mål og bidrag The goals will primarily be of use for the school in these ways: - VMA faces difficulties in offering apprenticeships in local industry for hairdressing. By cooperating with CVS, the students will get short-term workplace experience, which help them in getting experience. In addition, the project will work with the possibility of offering Icelandic student apprenticeships in Trondheim. - In Norway, textile industry has a rather weak position. This is not the case in Iceland, and Norwegian students will benefit of learning entrepreneurship and professional knowledge both from VMA and local industry. Students at CVS may also benefit of taking subjects at VMA. This possibility will be investigated during the project. - Exchange of professional knowledge in these lines of study will benefit and increase quality of education in both schools. In this way, VMA and CVS will participate with their different strengths in the cooperation. Leaders of the lines of study met in VMA in February, 2014, when CVS visited VMA on a self-financed preperatory visit. Both leaders, and the schools top leadership, are engaged in creating a long-term cooperation between VMA and CVS. 4.2.Innhold Prosjektets innhold Aktivitet We plan to exchange school leaders, teachers and students, according to the project aims, according to the following plan. All visits will have a duration of one week. By this plan, we try to spread the activites across the whole project period, and we will ensure that all the aims are met. April, 2015: Design and handcraft students and teachers from CVS visit VMA. Training at school, workplace learning. November, 2015: Hairdressing students and teachers from VMA visit CVS. Training at school, workplace learning. January, 2016: Design and handcraft students and teachers from CVS visit VMA. Training at school, workplace learning. April, 2016: Design and handcraft students from CVS visit VMA. Primarily school-based learning, but also visits to local handicraft business. November, 2016: Hairdressing students from CVS visit VMA. Primarily school-based learning, but also visits to local hair salons. January, 2017: Hairdressing students from VMA visit CVS. Training at school, workplace learning. February, 2017: Teacher and school leader meeting in VMA. Summing up, writing reports, plans for further contact/work. Local business will play an important role in this project. In both Trondheim and Akureyri, this will involve hair salons. Textile industry and design departments like Selbu Spinneri and Trøndelag Teater will be involved in Norway, and a range of local textiel industry in the Akureyri area in Iceland Forankring CVS has a strategy for internationalisation, in which the central aims is to - Exchange professional experience with other countries - Increase education output by exchanging students and teachers with other countries Both aims are in direct correspondence to the aims of this project. The leaders of the study lines will be directly involved in the project. This ensures that the schools' leadership will be involved. Both schools wish to develop a long-term cooperation, and this is strongly intended, a part of the strategic plans for the schools and pronounced by the schools' leadership. The cooperation is directly linked to the normal curricula in both schools. Norwegian and Icelandic curricula has much in common, and this project will go straight into "the daily life" of teaching in the two schools. The art, design and hairdressing departments on VMA and CVS will as a whole be involved in the project. By communicating regularly to the schools' leaderships, and by involving the schools' international coordinators, the project outputs will be spread both internally on the schools and in their local communities. 4.3.Organisering Prosjektets organisering Fordeling av ansvar og arbeid The coordinating institution (CVS) will be responsible for reporting, documentation and progress of the project. Both schools/study lines will be involved in the process of planning and implementation of the actions. VMA will have the main responsibility for arranging visits of of design and handcraft students from CVS, whereas CVS will have the main responsibility for planning visits of hairdressing students from VMA. The first two project meetings (September and November 2014) will be important in planning the further activities. Here, teachers from both schools will plan the project together in more detail Kommunikasjon Communication between VMA and CVS in periods between visits will mainly be carried out in . The schools have already a well-established contact, and personal contact has been established via two self-financed preperatory visits. In addition, the project will use the following collaboration platforms: NPJR-2014/10202 Page 4 (8) Innsendt - 02-mar-2014
5 - Establishing and updating a project wiki, on the same platform as this wiki (from previous VMA project): - Digital cooperation through EU's etwinning platform, digital cooperation between students and teachers - Video conferencing through Smart board software solutions Evaluering There will set aside time for evaluation after each visit, to ensure that our goals are met, and to make adjustments to next visit if necessary. The evaluations will specifically focus on how to improve the quality on the next project mobility. We will make a written report at the end of the project, where results are compared to goals. The report will include presentations of each visit, presentations and text from students visiting the schools and important findings from the professional exchanges. A part of the project is to seek out possibilities for Icelandic hairdressing students to take parts or all of their apprenticeship in Trondheim, and to see if design and handcraft students in CVS can follow subjects at VMA. For these spesific points a special report will be made, making advisories for further work. This report will be presented to relevant authorities in Norway and Iceland both at the schools and in the counties. 4.4.Resultat/utbytte Prosjektets resultat og utbytte Forventede resultat i forhold til prosjektets målsetning: A: For institusjonene som deltar i prosjektet Expected short-term results: - Establishment of a strong cooperation between VMA and CVS - Increased knowledge in local handcraft industry and entrepreneurship - Increased workplace-based learning in hairdressing - Improved quality in design, handcraft and hairdressing education by professional collaboration - Increased cultural and language understanding between the schools - Mutually increased understanding of Norwegian and Icelandic education systems, interchange of good ideas Expected long-term results: - Establishment of the possibility of VMA students taking apprenticeships wholly or partially in Norway - Establishment of a system where CVS students can follow subjects and carry out longer exchange periods at VMA - Further development of the collaboration and professional contact between CVS and VMA, and planning out new collaboration projects We think that profesionnal exchange and student exchange is the best way to achieve these results. Only by meeting other cultures and other education systems this will be possible. B: For andre (som ikke deltar i prosjektet) Expected short-term results: - Spreding knowledge in Icelandic design and handcraft ideas in Sør-Trøndelag County - Contact with local business in design, handcraft and hairdressing in Norway and Iceland, spreading ideas from the two countries Expected long-term results: - Increasing availability of apprentices for local hairdressing business in Sør-Trøndelag - Increasing the interest in design and handcraft ecucation in the Trondheim area through international networking - Spreading ideas from the two countries' education systems Although some of these points are yet only hopes, we think that it is a good change that we will find it possible to achieve these results. By carrying out short-term student exchanges, we will share important knowledge and gather experience that can be used for more long-term exchanges later. 6 Spredning av resultater A: For institusjonene som deltar i prosjektet We will share results continually during the project by making the evaluations and sum-ups after each visit available. We use a wiki to do this. In the end, a written report will document the project actions and results thoroughly. A specific report with advisories will be made concerning the possibility for apprenticeships in hairdressing in Norway and design and textile students at VMA. This will be spread to relevant authorities both at the schools, to local authorities and local business. We will aim the spreading of the results on all teachers in the study lines involved, and we will also keep the school's leadership informed. Decision makers must be informed on issues concerning possible changes in organisation that may be suggested in the project. B: For andre (som ikke deltar i prosjektet) We will spread the results by - Tell about the results in professional networks - Spread the information on the project wiki - Professional networks, leaders' conferences, principal meetings for spreading key results and findings from the project, e.g. school system differences, best practise-ideas, apprenticeships arrangements, cultural and professional experience of importance. These arenas may be leader's conferences and international coordinator networking. 5.Mobilitet - Mobilitetsativiteter i Nordplus Junior 5.2.Elevutveksling og praksis Registrering av mobilitet - Elevutveksling og praksis Elevutveksling/praksis Hva Fra land Til land Antall reisende Varighet per reisende Samlet støtte Accompanying teacher Iceland (IS) Norway (NO) 2 0m, 3u, 0d 3450 Two accompanying teachers, 3 visits of one week each.
