3 ANR programme on plant, animal and microbial genomics (2 nd cycle) -Knowledge of genome sequences and from the genes is useful to get quick improvement, in fundamental knowledge and in its applications that result. New techniques (High throughput Sequencing, Bioinformatics,..) imply new strategies. Genomics are a useful tool to understand current processes of evolution and means to exploit them in a context of pressures of human activities and global changes Genomics programmes are developed to be complementary of other initiatives developed in FP and collaboration with international consortium are needed

5 Plant genomics -Functional genomics for agricultural traits (yield, heterosis, plant development) -tolerance to biotic stresses (toward a diminution of pesticides uses, genomics of pythopathogens, genomics of plant-pathogens relationships) -resources, methods and tools for functional genomics (construction of lines, methodologies in linkage desequilibrium and in genome-wide associations, management of databases, NGS ) -participation of French teams into international public consortia for the complete sequencing of plant genomes (Wheat,..) - phenotyping from Plant Biotechnology (including Biomasse), GMOs France-Germany-Spain trilateral initiative in plant genomics (Knowledge Based Bio-Economy = plants for bioenergy, safer and healthier plants), open to other participating countries on a «just return» basis. -+ Portugal from Canada from 2010, and Brazil (2011?)

6 Large scale microbial genomics Microbes pathogenic or symbiontic for human, plants and livestock animals (high throughput sequencing ) Marine photosynthetic microbes Tara projects Metagenomics of the human intestinal tract Metagenomics of the soil microbiome, of water purification plants (and more generally speaking, of bioconversion-based plants) Large-scale microbial genomics to identify new genes encoding enzymes for the catalysis of reactions useful in industrial chemistry (bioconversions and other reactions )

11 New 3 years cycle: From genomics to «Adaptation» From 3 parallel programmes to 3 integrated programmes Huge increase of budget dedicated to «blue sky» programme From 25% in 2008 to 50 % in 2010 Integration of «Support Units» to ANR in December 2010 A new programme launched in 2011: BIOADAPT: Adaptation, from genes to populations 93 proposals (results mid April 2012) Plant genomics at international: New ERA-NET on Plant Molecular Biology: ERA-CAPS Plant KBBE and its evolution

12 Objectives of the programme: BIOADAPT : from genes to populations. Genetics and biology of adaptation to stresses and disturbances It supports research in genetics and biology on the comprehension and implementation of the mechanisms of biological adaptation at the levels of genes, individuals, populations and species and of their evolution facing global changes, stresses and disturbances. It supports research on methods and tools for developing the capacities of adaptation and to resilience of species and communities on one side, but also on improvement of varieties or races to global changes. One important asset will be in the integration of these different levels of complexity from genes to species and in modeling to help effective implementation
