Software: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Adobe Dreamweaver CS5, Adobe Flash CS5, and Adobe Photoshop CS5, and Windows applications will be used. Another operating system may be used, but students may notice some differences in the appearance of certain dialog boxes. Handouts: Additional handouts may be required. Instructor will provide information on obtaining this material. Department Philosophy: The Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education Department believes that education s most important function is to provide all students with the skills needed for post-secondary education and careers. This is accomplished by providing interest-based programs that meet industry standards. Course Description: Introduction to Digital Technology is designed for high school students to understand, communicate, and adapt to a digital world as it impacts their personal life, society, and the business world. Exposure to foundational knowledge in hardware, software, programming, web design, IT support, and networks are all taught in a computer lab with handson activities and project-focused tasks. Students will not only understand the concepts, but apply their knowledge to situations and defend their actions/decisions/choices through the knowledge and skills acquired in this course. Employability skills are integrated into activities, tasks, and projects throughout the course standards to demonstrate the skills required by business and industry. Competencies in the co-curricular student organization are integral components of both the employability skills standards and content standards for this course. Various forms of technologies will be highlighted to expose students to the emerging technologies impacting the digital world. Professional communication skills and practices, problem-solving, ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills are taught in this course as a foundational knowledge to prepare students to be college and career ready. The knowledge and skills taught in this course build upon each other to form a comprehensive introduction to digital world. Articulation: This course is Bibb County approved and articulated with Central Georgia Technical College s Computer Information Technology program.

Internet Acceptable Use: Use of the Internet must be in support of education and research and consistent with the educational objectives of the Bibb County School System. The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of those privileges. Any student user not complying with the Bibb County School System Internet Acceptable Use Agreement shall lose Internet privileges for a period of not less than one week. In this course that development is achieved through a variety of methods, which include Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). FBLA is a student organization that is designed to enhance this class. FBLA provides career and leadership development through peer interactions, adult mentoring, and competitions based on knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. 4 Computer/Classroom Equipment Students will abide by all rules stated in the Internet Use Policy established by the Bibb County Board of Education (as noted in the Code of Conduct). Students will not tamper with computer hardware including CPUs, monitors, keyboards, mice, cabling, printers, etc. Students will not use and/or explore any parts of the computer software that he/she has not been instructed on how to use or given permission to use by the instructor (including but not limited to My Computer, Windows Explorer, Games, Control Panel, Settings, Internet Explorer, etc.) Students are not allowed to install software. Students are not allowed to use floppy disks brought from home without teacher approval. Students will sit in the seat assigned by the instructor. Students will not allow others to use his/her password. Students are now allowed to install any type of hardware. Students are not allowed to network computers in any fashion. Students will not play games of any kind unless specifically instructed to do so. Students may not play audio CD s on the computer, download music from the Internet, or stream video or audio files via the Internet. Students may not bring CD players, tape players, IPods, cell phones, digital cameras, etc. into the lab. Use of World Wide Web Students will abide by all rules stated in the Internet Use Policy established by the Bibb County Board of Education. Students will not transfer or communicate data that may be deemed slanderous, offensive, or given misinformation concerning the Bibb County School System or Central High School. In the event that a student accesses an inappropriate web site, he/she will immediately turn the monitor off and notify the teacher, who will make notation of the site and turn it over to the system administrator. Students will not access the Internet without teacher approval. Students will never access the Internet when the teacher is absent or out of the classroom. I release the Bibb County School System, Central High, and Mrs. Wylene Dickey from any liability or damages that may result from my use of the Internet, either financially or legally. I also agree not to hold the Bibb County School System nor any of its employees, nor any of the institutions for networks providing access to Bibb County Schools responsible for the performance of the system or the content of any material accessed through it.
