Children s Services Central is a consortium that is the Professional Support Co-ordinator (PSC) in NSW. We are funded under the Inclusion and Professional Support Programme to provide subsidised professional development and support to specific education and care service types FDC, OSHC, OCC and BBF services. Long day care services and preschools can access Children s Services Central professional development on a full fee for service basis. The Inclusion and Professional Support Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. Children s Services Central consists of: Community Child Care Co-operative (NSW) Contact Inc Ethnic Community Services Co-operative Network of Community Activities NSW Family Day Care Association Semann & Slattery Children s Services Central provides: Professional Development Telephone Advice & Support Free Resources Specialist Equipment Bicultural Support Support for New Services Intensive Support Children s Services Central is constituted as a sub-committee of the Board of our lead agency, Community Child Care Co-operative (NSW).

5 BOOK ONLINE: 5 SE WHAT YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW Children s Services Central is the Professional Support Coordinator in NSW and is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, under the Inclusion and Professional Support Program. Long day care services receive LDCPDP funding. This means the fee for professional development for long day care services provided by Children s Services Central is not subsidised and is higher. (Funding rules but still great value!) You can use LDCPDP funds to pay for all Children s Services Central courses anything in this handbook in fact! Children s Services Central does much more than delivering professional development courses. Go to the back page to find out out more! Evaluations and certificates? These are all linked. After your course, we will send you a survey. After you complete the survey, you can download and print your certificate. If you like the sound of a course and it isn t in your area, let us know. 6 6 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT HANDBOOK CHILDREN S SERVICES CENTRAL PRICING OF COURSES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR LONG DAY CARE SERVICES Long day care services can enrol into any Children s Services Central training courses, but under the terms of the Inclusion and Professional Support Programme (IPSP) funding program under which Children s Services Central is funded, this must be at cost price not the subsided price. This is because long day care services have received funding to pay for professional development under the Long Day Care Professional Development Programme (LDCPDP). The cost price for all courses is $33 per hour (for example, a three-hour course will cost $99). WHAT ARE THE FEES? PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR BUDGET BASED FUNDED SERVICES Budget Based Funded services can enrol into any Children s Services Central training courses and under the terms of the IPSP funding agreement participants from these services are entitled to attend for free. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR PRESCHOOLS Preschools may also enrol in any Children s Services Central professional development courses but, under the terms of the IPSP funding agreement, this must be at cost price, not the subsidised price. The cost price is $33 per hour for example, a three-hour course will be $99. If funding is made available from the NSW Government for subsidies to any Children s Services Central courses preschools will be separately advised. WHICH LEVEL? This handbook indicates the level of the PD offered INTRODUCTORY Aimed at people who have not attended training in this topic area. INTERMEDIATE Aimed at people with a working knowledge of the topic area or who have attended previous training in this area COMPREHENSIVE Aimed at people with formal training at a diploma or degree level

9 BOOK ONLINE: 9 NEW (AND FAIRLY NEW) DIRECTOR S COURSE (for long day care and preschools) (p.68) This three-day event is an opportunity to hear the information and learn the skills that you need as a Director of an early education and care service. This course will help you become confident and successful in your new role. You ll learn how to balance the demands of administration, management and leadership. You will learn skills in areas such as compliance, legislation, finances, managing your team, overseeing your program, ensuring your service s quality and learn how to develop your own leadership. You ll connect with other newly appointed Directors and build a network to ensure you are supported in making your future and the future of your service terrific. The course would also suit those aspiring to become a Director within the next 12 months. The fee includes three full days of information, inspiration and influential ideas and a celebratory dinner. This evening + following day professional development event in your region puts the services (all service types) in the region in the driving seat. You tell us what you want then we provide it! THE EVENING The evening event will showcase high quality services within your region. We will talk about environments, program and practice relationships and leadership. 17 BOOK ONLINE: 17 COURSES THAT ARE REQUIRED UNDER THE REGULATIONS FIRST AID, ASTHMA MANAGEMENT, ANAPHYLAXIS MANAGEMENT What s required? All centre-based services must have at least one educator on site who holds an approved first aid qualification and has undertaken approved anaphylaxis and emergency asthma management training. Each family day care educator must hold all three qualifications. First aid, anaphylaxis management training and emergency asthma management training required must be updated at least every three years or when it expires. Where can you obtain them? St John Ambulance Australia: The Red Cross: Asthma Foundation: NSW Health Anaphylaxis Training Program anaphylaxis@chw.edu.au or call CHILD PROTECTION TRAINING What s required? Under the NQF, Nominated and Certified Supervisors must have training in child protection in order to be the responsible person in charge of a service. Identify and Respond to Children and Young People at Risk (CHCPRT001), from the CHC Community Services Training Package, meets this requirement. Participants who attend a course and successfully complete the assessment task will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for this unit. The training offered by Children s Services Central includes an overview of Keep Them Safe, requirements for mandatory reporters in NSW, identifying significant harm and risk factors and the provision of child safe environments. We look at developing time management skills, reflective practices, the FULL planning cycle, and key stakeholder communications. This course will assist you to develop effecting documentation processes that make the learning visible, and also assist in meeting your regulatory requirements around documentation and assessment.
