2 SUMMIT OVERVIEW The program is designed to bring professionals from multiple disciplines together to discuss perinatal and child health issues. Local and nationally recognized faculty will encourage participants to consider new research, best practices, collaborative and innovative strategies in perinatal health policy, education and practice. After completing this course, participants will be able to: Describe best practices in perinatal health; Put into practice new obstetrical and neonatal guidelines; Collaborate to increase favorable birth outcomes and decrease risks; Identify quality improvement strategies to promote better health outcomes for pregnant women and newborns; Outline policies and practices that lead to improvements in the quality and delivery of health care in West Virginia; Stimulate physician-patient conversations about what is appropriate and necessary treatment; and Build and strengthen the West Virginia Perinatal Partnership. NURSING MOTHERS Please note a Lactation Room is available for the comfort of nursing mothers. Please inquire at the registration table. COMFORT ZONE Though every effort is made to have a comfortable temperature in the meeting rooms, we realize everyone s comfort zone is different. Therefore, please bring a sweater or light jacket in case the room is too cool for your comfort. ACCREDITATION STATEMENT This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essentials and standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of CAMC Health Education and Research Institute and the West Virginia Perinatal Partnership. The CAMC Health Education and Research Institute is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CREDIT HOUR STATEMENT Physicians -The CAMC Health Education and Research Institute designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation. Day 1: Maximum of 5.5 credit hours Day 2: Maximum of 7.25 credit hours Nurses- The CAMC Health Education and Research Institute is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by West Virginia Nurses Association (AO-212), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Participants may choose their workshops upon arrival. 9:30 am 12:30 pm / Salons C & D (11:00 am - 11:15 am Break) Inter-Observer Reliability Workshop Accurately Assessing Neonates for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) This program is designed to help pediatric providers assess with accuracy the signs and symptoms of withdrawal in infants exposed to opiates during pregnancy. This workshop will demonstrate how the Finnegan Scoring Tool can be utilized to more accurately assess neonatal withdrawal. The program focuses on how inter-observer reliability can be incorporated into hospital practices to improve care to infants at risk of withdrawal. Karen D Apolito, PhD, APRN, NNP-BC, FAAN Professor & Program Director Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program Vanderbilt University School of Nursing 10:00 am - 12:00 pm / Salons E & F Oral Health in Home Visiting Programs: Strategies to Improve Outcomes Using an interactive case-based approach, this workshop will illustrate how to integrate oral health into home visiting programs utilizing trigger questions and behavior change techniques such as motivational interviewing. The facilitators will share lessons learned and lead workshop participants through role-playing, sample activities, and open dialogue. Gina Sharps, MPH, RDH Regional Oral Health Educator Bobbi Jo Muto, MPH, RDH Community Oral Health & Dental Sealant Coordinator 11:00 am 12:30 pm / Blue Ridge & Kanawha Help 2 Quit: A Training and Skill Building Program for Obstetrical Providers to Help Their Patients Quit Smoking With a rate nearly triple the national average, West Virginia has the highest number of women who smoke while pregnant. Health care providers are in a unique position to help women quit smoking. Brief counseling offered by a trained clinician can double a smoker s chances of quitting for good. This workshop will focus on evidence-based tobacco cessation screening and treatment strategies.
