3 Greetings Friends and Supporters, I invite you to join me at The 5th Annual Atlanta Celebrity Classic on May 31 - June 1, 2015 hosted at the historic East Lake Golf Club. Many years ago, I learned the importance of giving back to communities in need. Upon losing my mom, corporal Betty Smothers, when I was a high school student, the community for which we lived rallied around my family. With emotional and monetary support from companies, friends, churches and others, my five siblings and I were given hope for a better future. In memory of my mom, Warrick Dunn Charities (WDC) became the business and beauty of my life. WDC has been able to assist single-parent families and children in markets: Atlanta, Baltimore, Baton Rouge, Detroit, Newark, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa and many more with corporate and community support. This summer, The 5th Annual Atlanta Celebrity Golf Classic will ensure a good time for a great cause. Golfers joined by celebrities bring excitement and competition to the game which benefits Warrick Dunn Charities programs to serve more families and children in need of assistance. This year, we will introduce a new homeownership program to benefit civil servants; as well provide scholarships to deserving students. My experience as a professional athlete in the National Football League (NFL) taught me that it takes a team to win a game. A better future starts with hope. Following in the footsteps of his mentors and other business leaders, Atlanta Falcons Limited-Partner & Philanthropist Warrick Dunn dedicates his life to positively impact the lives of others. Beginning with the Homes for the Holidays program as a National Football League (NFL) rookie under the umbrella of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers community relations department in 1997, Warrick Dunn has since utilized his influence and resources to inspire communities and transform lives. With community and corporate support, Warrick Dunn Charities (WDC) has awarded millions in down-payment assistance, food, home furnishings and other donations to single parent families across the nation to combat poverty, hunger and ensure families have comfortable surroundings and basic necessities to improve their quality of life. WDC has launched two additional programs in recent years: Betty s Hope (mobile children s bereavement program) and Homes for Service (affordable homeownership program for civil servants). Warrick Dunn Charities, a 501(c)(3) recognized nonprofit, helps families and children thrive academically, socially and economically. Warrick Dunn honors his late mother, Betty Smothers, a Baton Rouge police officer and single parent through Warrick Dunn Charities programming. Ms. Smothers was ambushed and killed while working an off-duty security shift. Dunn was an 18 year-old high school senior left to raise his brothers and sisters. Warrick Dunn memorializes his mother and her dream of homeownership while giving hope and healing to communities. ABOUT EAST LAKE GOLF COURSE Par 72 7,374 yards Established in 1904, East Lake is the oldest golf course in Atlanta. Tom Bendelow was the original architect. In 1913 the course was completely reworked by the classicist Donald Ross, whose layout survives as the basic design today.
