His primary area of interest is the choral music of the French Baroque, especially the grands motets of Michel-Richard de Lalande. Lamb s doctoral document, Michel-Richard de Lalande s In convertendo Dominus: A Performance Edition with Performing Commentary, won the 2007 ACDA Julius Herford Prize. As conductor of the Brevard Community Chorus, Lamb has led concert tours to Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Locally, Lamb is Director of Traditional Music at Suntree United Methodist Church. There, he conducts the adult handbell choir in addition to the 65-voice Chancel Choir. Lamb is also active as a singer. He is a bass-baritone in Brevard County s only semi-professional chorus, the Indialantic Chamber Singers. Lamb is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Choral Directors Association in which he served two years as the North Carolina State Newsletter editor and is currently the Florida State Repertoire and Standards Chair for Community and Two-Year Colleges. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists, in which he served as Dean of the Western North Carolina Chapter, Chorus America, the American Musicological Society, The National Collegiate Choral Organization and the Florida Community Colleges Activities Association, where he served four years as chair of the statewide Student Artist Competition. Ken Marshall, accompanist Mr. Marshall has been a life-long Church musician, Organist/Director, and music/humanities educator in high schools and colleges, directing choirs, ensembles, and music productions. He started his church music career as a freshman at Yorkville (Illinois) High School when he became the organist at his home town church. He travelled to Chicago every Saturday to take organ lessons at the American Conservatory of Music. Marshall received Bachelors and Masters Degrees in organ and choral music education from the University of Illinois. He has taught choral music in high schools in Illinois and Florida. His Leto Comprehensive High School (Tampa, Florida) vocal ensemble, The Young Folk, performed on national television, The Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour in the 1960s. While director of choral activities at BCC, he prepared singers, choirs, and ensembles for concerts, and directed at least two musicals a year including The Fantastics, The Boyfriend, Carousel, Bye Bye Birdie, Annie Get Your Gun, Paint Your Wagon, Lil Abner and others. At BCC, he conducted the first performance in the southeast of He started productions of Madrigal Dinners in Titusville, Merritt Island and Melbourne. In 1975, he became the choral music director at International School, Bangkok, Thailand. His Young Internationals (singing and dancing ensemble) performed throughout Thailand including a performance for the King and Queen of Thailand. He also produced Madrigal Dinner performances in Bangkok. While teaching Humanities recently at Valencia Community College, Marshall was selected by the college student honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, as Professor of the Year. He was recognized for his outstanding spirit, enthusiasm, and leadership in the classroom. The Brevard churches he has served as Organist/Director or Organist include First United Methodist Church, Cocoa Beach and Advent Lutheran Church. He is currently Organist/Music Director at Riviera United Church of Christ in Palm Bay. He is a life-long member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, The American Choral Directors Association and The American Guild of Organists. His biography also appears in the Who s Who in America. Gerard Robinson, steel drums Gerard has been playing steel drums for eleven years. His parents are originally from Trinidad and Tobago. He plays in a steel drum group called Tropikal Flava and has been involved in music since he was 5. Gerard currently attends Space Coast Jr/Sr High School. 9

5 Classic Orchestra, the Imperial Symphony, the Stetson University Choral Union, the Orlando Messiah Society, the Gainesville Choral Society and Orchestra, the Palm Coast Choral Arts Society, the Winter Haven and Lake Wales Choral Societies and other organizations around the state. Recent performances include The Beethoven Mass in C with Fort Pierce choruses and orchestra, Carmina Burana with the Bel Canto Singers, Messiahs with many different organizations, the Mozart Requiem and numerous recitals with his wife, mezzo-soprano Jane Christeson. He was the soloist for the Scandinavian tour of the Brevard Community Chorus. While in Cincinnati, he was a member of the professional Cincinnati Vocal Arts Ensemble and sang with the Cincinnati Opera. Dr. Christeson s work with the Daytona Beach Symphony Orchestra includes a full range of works from the instrumental repertoire, as well as frequent collaborations with his choirs in larger choral/orchestral works. Most recently, he conducted the Beethoven Mass in C with combined Daytona State College and Stetson University choirs and the DBSO. He frequently performs with students and faculty of Stetson University School of Music, having conducted the Stetson productions of the Sondheim musicals Into The Woods and Sweeney Todd and serving as the emergency stand-in conductor of their production of Puccini s La Rondine. He has held various positions in both the Florida Community College Activities Association and the Florida chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. He is in demand as an adjudicator/clinician at the district and state levels, and is known for his informative and positive clinics with both choral and instrumental groups. In 2003, Dr. Christeson was inducted into the Florida Association of Community Colleges Hall of Fame, the first music representative to be so honored. James Boyles, bass James Boyles joined the faculty of Brevard Community College in 2008 as an adjunct instructor for the Brevard Chorale. Mr. Boyles began his advanced musical training at Brevard Junior College (now BCC) in He was in the Brevard Chorale directed by Tom Whiteside. Horace Boyer was his voice teacher. In 1967 he transferred to Florida State University and studied voice with Betty Jane Grimm graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Voice in After FSU Mr. Boyles received a graduate assistantship at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina and received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance in His performing credits include major and supporting roles in approximately twenty operas and musical comedies. Mr. Boyles also has a number of oratorio roles to his credit including solo performances in Handel s Messiah under the direction of Robert Shaw. His latest role was to sing the bass solos for the Verdi Requiem with the Space Coast Oratorio Society. James has taught choral music in Brevard County and presently directs the chancel choir at Indian River City United Methodist Church in Titusville. In addition, he owns and operates Jay Bee Jewelers, a retail jewelry store, also in Titusville. He has been married to Sarah Boyles since 1970 and has two married children. The entire family performs musically. Robert E. Lamb, conductor Robert E. Lamb was appointed at Brevard Community College in August of He is currently Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. A native of North Carolina, he attended Wake Forest University where, in addition to his music studies, he minored in French and studied at l Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. He earned a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where his teachers were Richard Cox, William P. Carroll, and Hilary Apfelstadt. While in Greensboro, Lamb was Assistant Conductor of the Choral Society of Greensboro, a position he held on three international tours of Europe and the former Soviet Union. Lamb earned the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. The chorus offers a unique musical and educational experience in a group setting. Members are selected by audition and rehearse and perform from September through May. A treble chorus of children in the fifth to tenth grades, children from all over Brevard County are welcome to audition. The chorus performs throughout the year at various venues. The Brevard Children s Chorus is directed by Joani Slawson, music educator at Saturn Elementary School, Cocoa. Winter auditions are Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Central Church of Christ in Cocoa. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Samford University in Birmingham, Alambama and her Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Rebecca has performed with the Aspen Opera Theatre Center, the Bronx Opera and the Portland Opera Repertory Theater. She has appeared as Bertha in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, First Lady in The Magic Flute, Fiordiligi in Così fan Tutte, Lady Billows in Albert Herring and Herself in The Proposal. While living in New York, Rebecca was a member of the New York Choral Artists and performed with such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Pierre Boulez at Cargegie Hall. She performed the role of Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Samford University Operaworks in 1993 and in 2001 had the honor of covering the role in Menotti s original production at Avery Fisher Hall. While maintaining an active performance schedule, Rebecca held the position of Assistant to the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Manhattan School of Music and served as the Program Coordinator for Centro Studi Italiani. She has been a member of Delta Omicron, a professional music fraternity, since 1991 and currently holds a national office as Province President. Jane Christeson, mezzo-soprano Jane Christeson, mezzo-soprano, has had a varied career as a featured performer in opera, oratorio and recital. A graduate of the University of Alabama with performance degrees in both piano and voice, she received a Graduate Council Fellowship before continuing her professional training with Cincinnati Opera. In addition to several solo appearances with Cincinnati, she has also performed with the opera companies of Orlando, Palm Beach, Grand Rapids, Alabama, Whitewater Opera of Indiana and Cartersville Opera of Georgia. She has performed several roles with Treasure Coast Opera, including Ulrica in Ballo in Maschera, Mercedes in Carmen, Madelon and the Countess in Andrea Chenier and Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana. She has performed many roles with Seaside Music Theater of Florida, ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan through Sondheim. A frequent concert and recital soloist in Florida and beyond, Ms. Christeson has performed as soloist with the Pomereggio Musicale of Palm Beach, the Brevard Symphony, the Messiah Choral Society of Orlando and the Alabama Symphony, as well as numerous other orchestras in the Midwest. In April 2006, she appeared as soloist in Mahler s Songs of a Wayfarer with the Stetson University Symphony Orchestra. Her most recent roles on stage include the title role in two different productions of Menotti s The Medium and Suzuki in Puccini s Madama Butterfly. During the season, she appeared with Orlando Opera as Mrs. Ott in Floyd s Susannah, with Treasure Coast Opera as Maddelena in Verdi s Rigoletto and as Mrs. Anderssen with Seaside Music Theater in Sondheim s A Little Night Music. In August 2006, she recorded the Janacek song cycle Diary of One Who Vanished for Lakeside Studios. Her upcoming engagements include the Mozart Coronation Mass and several holiday performances of Handel s Messiah in December of this year. Norton Christeson, tenor Dr. Norton Christeson is Senior Professor of Choral and Vocal Activities at Daytona State College where he conducts the Concert Choir, the Musical Theater Ensemble, teaches voice and coordinates the vocal and piano faculty. He also conducts the Daytona Beach Symphony Orchestra. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Alabama and his doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. A frequent soloist, conductor and clinician around Florida, Dr. Christeson has sung with the Vero Beach Choral Society, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Space Coast Philharmonic, the Atlantic 7
