2 St. Barbara Parish, Brookfield Parish Council Corner A Centennial Celebra on Steering Commi ee has been formed and is looking at 2016 events to commemorate St. Barbara s 100 years as a parish. Financials were discussed as was the October count where a endance at masses on the weekends in October is added up and averaged. We expect our average to be down and Fr. Casey shared Archdiocesan financial data which shows similar trends in other parishes. The Parish Council will be looking at parish-wide events in the future which can be publicized on the parish website ( and we are now on Facebook, thanks to Ruth Hroncich: h ps:// Other means of communica on with parishioners were discussed, such as crea vely u lizing the entranceway into the church and looking at use of the former bride s room at the back of church. 3 Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 13, 2013 Page Three From the Pastor s Desk... Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?" Jesus reminds us in today s gospel how important it is to give thanks. It is something that is taught to li le children from the moment they first learn to speak. One must always remember to say please and thank you. This weekend we give thanks to God and to the Parish of Saint Barbara for the many years spent educa ng children through the parish school. Our parish school was in opera on from 1923 un l With the guidance of the many sisters of the Congrega on of Saint Joseph and through the dedica on of many lay faculty members and volunteers, our school impacted the lives of many families. This weekend we join together to celebrate the spirit of Saint Barbara School and we welcome the many alumni, former teachers, past principals, and beloved staff who come to our parish to re-connect and reminisce. We are grateful to them for joining with us, especially since some our alumni have traveled from across the country to be here. Let us give thanks to God for all of the wonderful memories we share and for the friendships that we have been blessed with! A er the 9:15 Mass we will be blessing a bench that the Class of 1947 has generously donated to the parish in memory of their eighth grade teacher, Sr. Constance. The bench will be located by the front entrance of the school. The bench will serve as a wonderful memorial to Sr. Constance and also as a reminder that her religious community, the Congrega on of Saint Joseph, con nues to play an important role in the life and ministry of our parish. Please remember to say a prayer today for the many men and women who are par cipa ng in the Chicago Marathon. Many of the runners have chosen to conquer the 26.2 mile challenge not for themselves but to draw a en on to a par cular charity. May God watch over them as they run and may God bless the good work of their chari es. Go, Team Taller de José!
