April 2003 We would like to invite you to our seminar and extensive product presentation and demonstration in Zürich, Basel and Lausanne. After an introduction to each product typical applications will be discussed, followed by a demonstration of several of the products. We are pleased to announce a Guest Speaker at the Seminar in Zürich, as well as Dr. Lorenz Mayr, Novartis (Seminar in Basel) and Prof. Horst Vogel, EPFL (Lausanne). A wide range of products within the areas of life sciences research and drug discovery will be covered. Not all of those might be of interest to you. If you prefer to only attend a part of the meeting, i.e. morning or afternoon sessions only, please indicate your time of participation with your registration. This will help us to reserve sufficient space and book for the luncheons. Most, but not all, of the presentations in Zürich and Basel will be held in German, the presentations in Lausanne will be in English language. 2 March 2003 The Seminar and Road Show This event is planned to provide a comprehensive overview on multiple novel techniques and tools available to the life sciences researcher. Focussed presentations will be followed by demonstrations and personal discussions. Several working stations will be put to action in parallel allowing you to attend various demonstrations in the course of the day. New Assays, Screening Techniques and Reagent Kits for Microplate Readers and High Throughput Screening Systems Dr. Georg Kienzle will discuss the various application areas supported by the Molecular Devices MAXline microplate reader series together with new absorbance and fluorescence assays, such as ADME-Toxcitity or cell-migration/chemotaxis. In addition, new reagent assay kits for cell signaling/calcium release will be presented together with the new FLEXstation II (384) and FLIPR3. Finally, the generic IMAP technology for non-radiometric kinase/ phosphatase activity screening and its dedicated instrument platform of the Analyst multi-mode reader will be presented. Arcturus AutoPix for automated Laser Capture Microdissection Laser Capture Microdissection: An Indispensable Tool in Cancer Research Historically, molecular analysis was performed on whole biotissues consisting of a heterogeneous population of cells, which often leads to misleading or confusing molecular results. Molecular Devices comprehensive range of assay kits Automated Sample Preparation and Purification using State-of-the-Art Liquid and Plate Handling Robots Life Science Research is increasingly taking advantage of accurate and highly reproducible automated sample prep and purification steps. Such steps include automated PCR clean-up, protein crystallization, plasmid purification or MALDI target spotting. In his presentation, Dr. Christoph Kaufmann will touch on several of those time saving applications using the latest Hamilton technologies. Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM), based on the successful Arcturus Pixcell LCM technology platform, represents a highly successful technology for nondestructive isolation of homogeneous cell populations from intact cells or tissue sections for molecular analyses. The automated AutoPix System is specially engineered for high throughput cell collection equipped with state-of-the-art microdissection instrumentation and software. LCM represents a powerful tool for studies in genomic structure and functional genomics, which also permits the development of new therapeutics designed to target specific subpopulations of diseased cells. Studying Cells selected via Microdissection utilizing RT-PCR and Microarray Analysis Isolation of single cells using Laser Microdissection allows investigations on individual cells on a molecular biology level which then permit cell specific gene expression analysis using real time PCR and microarray analysis

3 March 2003 Volumetric Cell Measurements and 4D Tracking Improvision is well known for its market leading software system for imaging cell structure and function. The core program allows image acquisition, measurement, presentation and publication. Modular extensions offer control of hardware and additional software capabilities such as time laps imaging, ratio imaging, deconvolution and 3D imaging. The new Axon GenePix 4100A Microarray Scanner Successful microarray experiments require highly sophisticated equipment. The new Axon GenePix 4100A scanner with its elaborate integrated software allows an attractive access to this technology for an individual lab. Real-time quantitative PCR represents another indispensable research tool. The new Cepheid SmartCycler II allows sixteen precise reactions, in parallel, or completely independent individual reactions. This unsurpassed flexibility allows efficient assay development particularly also where multiple assay need to be developed by different users. While Prof. Bächi and Dr. Mayr will hold their presentation at 1:45pm, Prof. Vogel will speak at 11:30am. Cell Counting, Apoptosis and Protein Expression Made Easy with the Guava Personal Cell Analysis System The focus of Roland Bucher s overview will be on Volocity, a true high performance imaging platform. Volocity, developed for rapid, interactive volume visualization of 3D and 4D volumes has received several awards for innovation. SNP-Analysis and DNA Sequence Analysis: Accurate, Fast, Easy As complete reference genome sequences are provided, there is an emerging need for the analysis of sequence variations among individual genomes, particularly with respect to the most common type of sequence variation: the SNPs. Based on an enzyme cascade system used in nature for millions of years, Pyrosequencing has developed a unique technology specifically designed for genetic analysis. Pyrosequencing offers different systems with different throughput and application versatilities. The PSQ HS 96A system significantly reduces costs for accurate single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and mutation analysis. The PSQ 96MA system is a multi-application sequence analysis solution to enable real-time detection of DNA sequencing events in a gel-free operating environment.
