5 Adobe & Web Design Adobe Photoshop (Basic Skills) During this course you will be introduced to the essential concepts of the magical software that is Adobe Photoshop CS6. 6 Adobe & Web Design Adobe InDesign Adobe InDesign enables you to create and print a variety of tasks such as business stationery, greetings cards and leaflets. You can also publish professional quality layouts for newsletters and brochures, the course content will include design interface; creating documents; adding text and graphics; drawing paths, lines and shapes; master pages; using layers; working with text; colours and gradients; output to PDF. 2 hours per week for 3 weeks Cost: per person Testimonial I recently attended the InDesign training session. 7 Digital Photography - Adobe Lightroom to Photoshop (Beginners) The course is aimed at those who would like an up to date introduction to image editing software. Many platforms for digital photo-manipulation exist and this course aims to offer an insight into modern approaches to image management and optimisation. Those interested in gaining an overview of both the interface and operation of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop would benefit from undertaking this course. The course also offers employees or trainees the possibility of learning about image manipulation software for the benefit of their organisation or business. You will be able to create stunning web animations, banners and buttons; Dreamweaver (Including FTP) - used to design and layout websites. Learn how to upload files on to a web server. 11 Wordpress / Blog Design Website & Blog Design using WordPress (Introduction) During this course, students will cover site set up and structure, design and layout considerations, blogging essentials, hyperlinking, image types and characteristics, image acquisition, optimising images for web, embedding video, creating galleries, publicising your site through social media, SEO basics. Wordpress / Blog Design 2 hours per week for 6 weeks Cost: per person Website & Blog Design using WordPress (Intermediate) The course is structured around the basic WordPress account and will be using the free resources. All sessions will have time allocated in which delegates can work on their own sites, with more self-guided work time allocated towards the end of course. 13 Cloud Computing Online Storage (Cloud Computing) This course is aimed at people who have never used Cloud before or those with little experience who need to understand the benefits and dangers of using Cloud computing. Course content will include: introduction to cloud computing, early cloud services, online storage, main cloud service providers, technology as a service - PaaS, SaaS, IaaS, free Cloud services, data security and Cloud developments. 15 Microsoft Windows Server Administrator - (Microsoft CTS) The Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) on Windows Server 2008 credentials are intended for information technology (IT) professionals who work in the complex computing environment of medium to large companies. 3 hours per week for 10 weeks Cost: per person* Configuring Windows 8 (Microsoft CTS) Candidates for this exam are IT professionals who configure or support Windows 8 computers, devices, users and associated network and security resources. The networks with which these professionals typically work are configured as a domain-based or peer-to-peer environment with access to the Internet and cloud services. 16 Computer Building Computer Building Build Your Own PC This course is aimed at people who wish to learn how to build a PC from scratch. Through a mix of theory and practice, you ll learn how various internal and external computer parts come together to form the complete system. 17 Technician Training PC Technician Training The course has been enhanced as a forerunner to the CompTIA course and covers a number of practical areas such as: Networks including topology of the different types; Computer Applications such as Excel; Hardware troubleshooting in a practical setting problems will be created using live equipment and the student expected to fix them based on knowledge accumulated on the course; System Security; Basic cabling and linking machines via switches; Basic Batch files construction; The opportunity to work on a Windows Server in a virtual environment; The use of PC and Laptop virtual software to construct and deconstruct hardware before been allowed to work practically on lab equipment. 3 hours per week for 10 weeks Technician Training Cost: per person > Visit blackburn.ac.uk 17

18 CompTIA & CISCO CCNA CompTIA & CISCO CCNA IT Essentials 1 - CompTIA A+ You will learn how to install and configure computer operating systems and PC hardware. A final exam is issued by CISCO, were you will be awarded an IT Essentials certificate. There is the option of taking the CompTIA A+ exam, which is an internationally recognised Technicians Certificate, which is external to the College and not part of the course. The course is based around an online curriculum which can be studied in college and anywhere with internet connectivity. When in college students will have the opportunity to work in labs using hardware and software to learn the practical skills necessary, you would be expected to use those practical skills whenever possible outside of College to perfect your skills. IT Essentials exam and practical final would be completed in College on the last date of the course. 18 weeks including in class and home study Cost: per person CISCO CCNA To start studying CCNA you will need to be a confident computer user and have a reasonable understanding of computer communications. This course can be used as a progression from CompTIA A+.You will study the CISCO Networking Academy CCNA online curriculum and develop practical skills through lab exercises and design tasks. With a blended delivery you will have 6 sessions in college giving you the opportunity to use our CISCO equipment. In addition to this, most students need to put aside 5 weeks of self-study. 19 ECDL ECDL The college delivers both ECDL Level 2 and ECDL Advanced. Level 2 Level 2 ECDL covers Word Processing, Spreadsheet software, Presentation software and Improving productivity using IT. This would be the usual pre-cursor to the Advanced courses although those with sufficient experience could also attend on the Advanced levels. ECDL Advanced - Access The database software unit will help learners to get more from the database application, giving them the skills to use the many advanced tools available in database applications to better manage and organise structured information. Advanced Database requires the candidate to understand key database concepts and use a relational database application to create an advanced database structure and outputs. 10 week course for 3 hours per week Cost: per person* ECDL Advanced - Word With this unit, learners can demonstrate their ability to use the advanced features of word processing applications to enhance their work, improve productivity and save time. 23 Specialised Computing AutoCAD for Construction and/or Interiors (Beginners) This course is suitable for those new to computer aided design moving to AutoCAD from another system of for occasional users who want to work with AutoCAD drawings. The Primary objective of this course is to teach users the basic commands necessary for professional 2D drawing, design and drafting using AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT. Users learn the features, commands, and techniques for creating, editing, and printing drawings with AutoCAD. NVQ/OCR Certificate in ITQ - IT User Skills (Level 3) This course is aimed at anybody who uses a computer, with various software applications, on a regular basis. Students are visited in the workplace by a tutor/trainer/assessor who will run through the various elements and criteria for each unit and provide training where necessary. You will then apply these new skills to your work and produce evidence to demonstrate your ability. To achieve the Certificate, the student must complete a selection of units totalling 25 points. Average 12 months to complete Cost: per person NVQ/OCR Diploma in ITQ - IT User Skills (Level 3) This course is aimed at anybody who uses a computer, with various software applications, on a regular basis. Students are visited in the workplace by a tutor/trainer/assessor who will run through the various elements and criteria for each unit and provide training where necessary. 28 NVQs NVQ Diploma in Business Administration (Level 2) This course is for anyone currently working in the field of administration aimed at people who are in a supportive office based role. Your supportive role may include producing business document, supporting meetings, effective communication, Reception duties, filing. For level 2 - you will need to gather evidence for 4 mandatory units: Manage own performance in a business environment, Improve own performance in a business environment, Work in a business environment and communicate in a business environment. You will also need to achieve a variety of optional units that best match your current job role. Your assessor will provide further information on these options. This qualification is very flexible in its structure enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work situation. 29 NVQ Diploma in Business Administration (Level 3) This course is for anyone currently working in the field of administration whose role involves carrying out administrative duties with a high degree of autonomy and personal responsibility. You will be involved in developing, implementing and maintaining administrative services for customers and clients. For level 3 - you will need to gather evidence for 4 mandatory units. You will also need to achieve a variety of optional units that best match your current job role. Your assessor will provide further information on these options. This qualification is very flexible in its structure enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work situation. NVQs Average 12 months to complete Cost: per person NVQ Certificate in Advice & Guidance (Level 3) The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills and competences of candidates in the workplace. The qualification is primarily aimed at practitioners who work directly with clients, disseminating information, advice and some level of guidance. Candidates will be working with information that is often interpreted by others, usually working within some clear guidelines. To achieve a full OCR Level 3 NVQ in Advice and Guidance, candidates must achieve six units made up of three mandatory units and three optional units. 30 NVQs NVQ Certificate in Advice & Guidance (Level 4) This qualification supports the recognised need for individuals and employers/tutors to be responsible for gaining the skills needed to meet ever-changing objectives. This will in turn lead to improvements in efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organisation and with clients. This course is suitable for experienced individuals who work directly with people disseminating information, advice, guidance and formal advocacy and have managerial or training responsibilities, are dynamic in their dealings with organisations and are creators of information, advice and guidance within the service or practice either disseminating information themselves, or through their organisation in the form of publications. 31 NVQ Diploma in Management (Level 5) The Management Level 5 qualification is suitable across all occupations and sectors of employment and is aimed at individuals who have the ability and the opportunity to demonstrate recognisable management skills. For example, managing business processes, leading, planning and implementing change, managing finance, providing learning opportunities. Individuals may find that the focus of their work is more to do with managing projects, or with technical matters, than with people. To gain this Level 5 Diploma qualification, students must complete 4 mandatory units, amounting to 23 credits, and a choice of optional units, with a minimum total of 15 credits. 33 Management ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management) Level 3 Management As the largest awarding body for leadership and management qualifications in the UK, the Institute of Leadership and Management is committed to developing managers at all levels. This qualification has been re-designed in a unit-based format, in readiness for the UK and European credit frameworks. The following courses give practising or potential first line managers (team leaders or supervisors) the foundation for their formal development in their roles.
