Principal anthropologist and epidemiologist for the ongoing collaborative work on trachoma. Led multidisciplinary teams conducting a behavioral intervention project to prevent blinding trachoma and a clinical trial of azithromycin for treating trachoma in the Egyptian Delta. Responsible for design of anthropological and epidemiological data collection and analysis, development of intervention strategies, and field coordination of a multidisciplinary teams of approximately three dozen Egyptian and American social scientists, ophthalmologists and epidemiologists. Constructed budgets for the both the United States and Egyptian sides of the project, negotiated and managed those budgets (Totaling approximately $1.5 million). Supervised the development of a microcomputer based information system containing data bout children from a variety of state, federal and other sources. Designed and conducted in-depth studies of selected topics in child welfare Developed social indicators and methods for assessing child well-being. Managed social indicators research project staff of post doctoral scholars and doctoral students and support staff Acting Director, Program on Public Policy and Ethnography, Department of Anthropology, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, Directed all programmatic and fiscal aspects of this NIMH funded training program ($200,000 annual budget) and served as principal investigator for several grants for social policy research ($10,000- $30,000).
